Hey, Dewie here, if you want more skiing guides and trail POVs, they’ll be posted on Colorado Plankers. Currently, nothing is posted, but I’ll publish a bunch of 4K POVs once the season starts. If this skiing channel finds an audience, I’ll start making detailed skiing guides, instructional videos, and some surprises. I don’t have a lot of free time, but like making videos for others so I’ll put the time in if people want them. First resorts to be covered are Keystone, Breck, and Vail. Colorado Mallcrawlers will continue to have off-road and overland content.

I always go to keystone, and schoolmarm is always my favorite trail to go down! It is super fun.

My very first day of skiing and my very last were at Keystone. I've never seen 23 years go by so fast. I tried Schoolmarm after 3 days of practice and instruction and it was a giant confidence builder.

You should make more videos the way you made this one. I'd follow you. It's one of the best. The only thing missing is to have someone in front of you. I learn a lot about how to ski if I'm able to see someone making turns in front of the camera. But the way you labeled all the runs as you went by them makes this one of the best ski run vids around. @@coloradomallcrawlers You should make a hundred of these videos. I'd watch 'em all a hundred times. The calming music choice was perfect too. Music should never be in place of the sounds of skiing. How you overlayed it on low was a bingo. Good luck on your new channel. Would love a notification when it launches.

@@TheBourneBlogger thanks man! Just trying to figure out how to effectively make it work. I don’t have much free time so I’d need to have a plan to not have either channel suffer.

After blowing out my knee at AB, post-surgery I rehabilitated both physically and psychologically (Haha) over at Keystone. Schoolmarm was perfect for this. Then, as you progress, you just start doing the Blue runs off of Schoolmarm, each of which get progressively less steep, though none are difficult. Just a great place to rehab a repaired knee, atrophied legs. And not so crowded as, say, Breck.

Absolutely true! I love Keystone for so many reasons, and that’s one of them!

I went down schoolmarm twice after my first skiing lesson EVER with a slightly more experienced friend... it was very fun!

Thank you so much for this and your other videos. Such a terrific help (and love the mellow music on this run). I am planing a trip and looking at Breck vs Keystone and reading that Breck has easier Blues/Greens (?)--- but I also just looking at the trail map I find Breck overwhelming. Keystone seems smaller, which I favor (I like quieter resorts). How would you characterize the difference b/ Breck and Keystone for a low to advancing intermediate (normally east coast) skier? (Meaning I have skied out in Utah before, but mostly ski east coast, handling a bunch of ice this year, am working up my levels). I'd very much like to get started on the green progression you recommend in your other video and honestly Schoolmarm and some of its off shoots feel like it alone would make a nice day!! And then from there, progress up the easiest blues. (This brings me back to some comment on Reddit that Breck's greens/blues are less steep? But maybe not all?) Thank you for your videos! You have a terrific way of presenting information, thorough and understandable and you add great context. Appreciated!

If you are an advancing intermediate then I’d definitely say Keystone. Schoolmarm is so much fun and the greens and blues on dercum could make for a really great trip. In fact, I was on call of work last week so I stayed on the front side (have cell phone service) and had a blast all day. Breck has greens, but they’re shorter. The key with Breck for beginners to intermediates is to pick one or two peaks and focus on them for a day. A higher level intermediate to expert can ski all over Breck but that’d be daunting for a newer skier imo. Hope that helps… I’m definitely going to have more skiing content on Colorado Plankers next year. I’m determined to get it going. Might film a few in March and upload early November in time for next season.

Aside from the tiny hill called scout this is the first actual trail I've ever been on. But geez I don't have the guts to go as fast as you are yet lol

Your camera makes a much smoother video than mine (Go Pro Hero 3+) I do notice some artifacts with the snow which I have a problem with also.

Yea, I use to shoot on hero2 and hero1 with the same issues, but recently went to the hero 7 black and I just added a hero 6 black (refurb). The stabilization is great on the newer ones and I’d definitely recommend an upgrade!

Will be skiing for the 1st time next week. Would this be a good place to start? Is there like a flat surface to practice on? I’m scared, lol!

Hey Keilly… not for your first run. Check out my beginner’s guide for Keystone as I go through the typical progression we go through when teaching new skiers. Basically, you want to handle the slope (control your speed, stop, maneuver) of Scout or the Discovery Learning area before moving onto Schoolmarm.

Sorry for this huge message lol. I was wondering about your thoughts, watched your other video as well, thank you for posting detailed content! Im more of an intermediate snowboarder and skier...maybe 10 seasons at our local hill, Little Switzerland in WI. Im planning my first EVER board/ski trip out of Wisconsin and I mainly want to do Keystone for their added nighttime sessions. It will be during the week, NOT on weekend (hopefully less people midweek). Prolly Wed thru Fri. SOOO....for the day sessions, whats your advice for getting the most amount of runs in? Long fast groomers and avoiding crowds? I wanna ride, not stand in line for chairlifts all day. Better areas for getting up the lifts quicker? Better areas of the mountain for speed and epic views? Ive got one shot at going out there for a couple of days and want to have my best experience possible. Let me know what you think! Thanks!

You will have an absolute blast especially coming midweek! When are you planning on coming? Like before Spring break, spring break, or next year? Anyway, you shouldn’t have to wait in lines coming during the week, maybe, a min or two during spring break. Keystone is an intermediate’s dream! Hopefully I’ll have a guide for that by next week, but my favorite blues are on Dercum (the first Mountain) and some are open for night skiing.... however, I’d hit them after lunch. If you start at 8:30a, ride the gondola to summit, then cruise down Mozart (it’s highly trafficked later so it sometimes gets icy but not the morning), then take Santiago and get on Anticipation or Spillway. Ride the blues in the outback and soak in the views. When you had enough, start making your way back to the front. Check out some of the blues on North Peak including Star Fire (this one for speed!) if you’ve handled the blues so far. Once you’re done there, back to Dercum. If there before 4, ride Paymaster (I’m posting a ride video of it soon) and Wild Irishman as those two don’t have lights. Spring dipper is fun at night and so is schoolmarm. Once you’re done, repeat your next day hitting stuff you hadn’t tried yet. If you’re feeling good after getting all the blues, start trying blacks on Dercum, then North Peak, and if you are feeling good, the outback. Be careful in the outback! Outback’s blacks can be dangerous because they’re mostly tree runs. Speaking of trees... Ripperoo’s trees are a lot of fun to start practicing, but black trees are steeper and much tighter. Have a great time! I absolutely love Keystone and it’s still my go to despite 100 day seasons mostly there! Thanks for watching!

Holy cow, thank you SO very much for that, im literally sitting here looking at their trail map and picking out all of the runs you've just mentioned. And when is spring break??? Crap didnt think of that!! I was honestly thinking of leaving this Monday or Tuesday. Driving. ALSO, will i be fine with my VW Jetta with all season tires? Or will I be sliding down the mountain to my doom? Id imagine the main highway to/from Denver would be cleared after any snowfall.... but idk. Also probably going to do cheap motels in the Denver area and drive in/out every day. Kind of a pain....but i need to keep this as low cost as possible.

Oh if next week, you should be fine... it is usually most of March with the busier times mid March. Still never that bad. CDOT does a good job clearing, but we do have strict passenger traction laws that go in effect if it’s snowing. You might need to buy chains if they’re in effect, but I don’t know for sure. Keystone is fine for driving (free parking)... I’ve got places to stay up there, but usually just drive home to Denver to sleep in my bed (unless it’s snowing of course). Have a great trip!

Yeah Im beyond excited, been dreaming for years and years about this. Always hard to get friends to commit, so Im just gonna solo trip it $$$$ gonna suuuuuuck lol. If I can do Scout and Endevour (Ranger lift greens), could I handle the steepness of Schoolmarm? I picked up skis for the first time today and was ripping those two really short greens comfortably in an hour. I did them each 10-12 times and felt pretty good

You can go either way, but there’s a sign at where I make the hard cut to go down Ina’s way. Check out the trail map online as it’ll make more sense.

Schoolmarm is rated as easy, but it’s a long 3.5 miles with a steady pitch without any real catwalks. Paymaster is a long blue trail.
