People who have never experienced a mental health crisis will never understand how hard it is to get any help. When you do go to an emergency room they call the cops to handcuff and shackles to transport you to a mental health center. They treat you like a criminal not a person seeking help!

PS I knew somebody that went in and out of the mental hospital and they hated it because of the way they were treated by staff. Like it or not but most of these nurses the staff members were not born in the United States and they have a different mentality and a good portion of them seem antagonistic
I'm a mental health therapist and trust me, the need is dire. I have only so many hours in my week to see people. I could see more, but that would compromise my mental health and the quality that I provide to my clients/patients. Don't get me started on compensation. We in the social work field are required to work miracles on little pay. A major overhaul is needed.
I am a retired psych nurse and substance use counselor. Insurance companies do not provide adequate coverage for these disorders. They force addicts out of inpatient detox too soon and now out of day partial too soon. They have no coverage for residential treatment. A month of residential treatment costs $10,000 or more. Many addicts are broke because of their substance use. Because mental health and addiction services were not "lucrative" Ascension health in Indianapolis cut 90% of their outpatient services and their residential program. My job was cut. This is why there are not enough beds and not enough care providers. Residential treatment is far less expensive than prison. So, right, we don't need universal health care.
A mental health course for each grade should be set up and in place so that children receive some sources of what to do, where to go, when and who to report incidents, etc., instead of being left entirely on their own on how to deal with abuse. Perhaps they should receive a booklet, suitable for their age, at their first day of school, on resources to contact should they need help.

Psyche must be incorporated into health classes, age appropriate of course. We are so deprived routinely of pertinent knowledge that we are entitled to know of our very bodies.

@@katherinejones8022 Absolutely, the health of our brains and our mental well-being is just as important as our physical health.
I'm a therapist in private practice and my case load is 25 people. I haven't had any openings in three years. People contact me weekly to see me and I have to turn them down. I hear from patients all the time that they can't find a therapist. And when I need to refer a patient for medication management, it takes 2-3 months for them to see a prescriber. We need more therapists! We need more psychiatrists! More training, funding. And more oversight on agencies to keep them accountable for the level of care they're providing.

Insurance coverage has also gotten worse and worse. So much of the conversation is about seeking help, not about the logistics of getting it. This was refreshing to hear.
We need to allocate money for mental health care. The money is there, we just need to wait for it to trickle down (thanks RWR).

Great subject guys! Thanks. Step away from the surface in order to go deeper, the root, that is the only solution. It's not a quick fix at all, try to change your entire society for your children and grandchildren's good sake.
More availability to for mental illness care is long overdue in this country it's ridiculous and sickening.
Can we start with mental health tests for our government representatives?
Before I retired from being a Registered Nurse, I called for a job at a mental hospital. They said yes they needed my help but that they were forbidden to hire more nurses due to cut backs. Republicans cut funds!
This should at least start in high school, dont just kick them out of school, work with them ,this has to start when they are young.
😢Emillio is right..this country hasn't finished grieving. Perhaps we, as a nation, are still working our way thru all the stages of grief. We lost sooo very many loved ones in the past 3 years.
All this bull sh____ t about metal Heath they will do absolutely nothing to fix the problem people don't even have Heath insurance I don't buy anything they say !!!!
Does it bother anyone that these particular leaders will determine what sanity is?
I think Gov. Abbott needs serious mental illness evaluation, he is spinal cord injured which is extremely significant and impacts him, his family and everybody around him and his decision making based in his anger, callousness, and denial of what's in front of him.

Shooters do not walk into mental health clinics. And if they did, services are scarce, almost absent.
Anyone who can tried their shoelaces does not have problems, those that have a hard time usually run for public office. One of the largest group of professionals that take their own life are the doctors that treat mental challege people. Go figure.
I can not tell you how very much I agree with no children should be left alone to deal with the current US values and goals

If its a mental health issue and people choose firearms to commit crimes of this nature. It would make sense to have universal mental health screening. Everyone who buys a gun legally already starts off with the intent of being a " good guy " until they aren't. How are we suppose to know who is who? What business is it for an 18 year old buying a full battle rattle.. Common sense gun laws. Guns are not toys, Guns are not tools. Firearms have a singular purpose. Tools serve multiple only tools think firearms are tools.

Im sorry but, im not a child anymore, i just turned 57. I wouldn't relive my childhood no matter what could be offered. Instead, i wound up recreating the very same treatment by nearly everyone in my world. I married my dad and mom, i was so needy i drove people away or got taken advantage of. I was the scape goat and my mom called people, including dictors and told them not to help me, that they couldn't believe a word i said. I just want to hurt people. As a 7 year old i wanted to hurt them??? I can't remember why im telling you this. Wait, it's because, "You can not help a child until the adult is healthy enough for their child. "
President Biden must create a cabinet position for a mental health or brain disease czar. Dr. Mary Trump has some great ideas. From the mass psychosis of the country & the ravages of covid, this is a prudent & necessary decision.

Those ways exist❤🎉
Again, a refreshing interview, about mental health and the connecting ( lacking ) treatments. More medicine is not the solution, and neither is the handout of Insulin for that matter. Those measures are only feeding the pockets of the Pharmaceutical Industries while leaving the cause untreated so to say. The question should be, in the first place: Why are there so many mentally ill folks in the USA ? Compare the Statistics with for example Finland, Iceland, Denmark, Israel, and the Netherlands the five happiest countries in the World. ( the USA is ranked number 15 ) This only proves that military power and an extreme form of capitalism do not mean well-being for the masses in society. There is nothing wrong with Money, on the contrary, but there is "something wrong" in the way we use it, the Food Industry is a very harmful consequence of the system, just one example. Sugar is addictive, and the Industry knows that they use the same criminal practices as the cigarette industry did in the past, killing millions of people over the years. Ironically everybody is upset about the shootings but nobody has the guts to question the practices of the Food industries. Dr. Lustig would be your great next guest if it is about the root cause of mental and physical illnesses and the effects of sugar on the addicted population of this country.
Why does Joe have any guests on? He seems to be an absolute expert in everything why doesn't he just interview himself?

We had this years ago. We had mental health hospitals where the unfortunate individuals could receive treatment, and could be confined because they were psychotic, schizophrenic and dangerous to the general population. We had this before, but then we had the stupid idea of returning the mentally ill to the community and keeping them drugged up. That idea is a failure.
