I think it's pretty common. I used to play in a metal/hardcore/progressive band and we found ourselves really quickly getting bored with metal and looking for inspiration in other genres. We all actually listen to much more metal now that we're not playing it lol. Our bassist used to blast Vanessa Carlton and Carly Rae Jepsen when we were setting up.

It's super common. Most of the dudes I know that play metal don't listen to much metal. It's hip to be all artsy and indie.

limbo although Halo 2 is my favorite, I'd say Reach was the last decent Halo game made. And it was the last Bungie Halo as well.
