Top Ten Worst Raigeki-Like Effects in Yugioh

Ойындар

Raigeki is one of the most powerful cards in Yu-Gi-Oh’s history - Made famous by its simple yet game-determining effect to destroy all monsters your opponent controls. In fact this effect was so impactful that Raigeki has been on the Forbidden And Limited list ever since the very first TCG banlist in 2002 - And was only recently deemed safe enough to come back to 3 copies.

It makes sense for such a ruling to be present, considering characters in the anime actually abused the loophole to activate effects for no cost(Aka. "Cardeffect specifies to discard my hand, which is empty, so lol.") and that's sorta cheesy and dumb. It's only an issue here because reversing the raigeki is not supposed to be the primary effect or how the card would be played, stopping it is. There was this old yu-gi-oh pc game called yu-gi-oh: power of chaos yugi the destiny where anti-raigeki was somehow useful to have as an option. Because of the limited amount of cards that game had, yugi would always spam raigeki whenever you had like two monsters on your side, even if it was just to destroy a celtic guardian or a beaver warrior. There was nothing more infuriating that having yugi stall the game for three turn with the swords of light just to nuke your board with a raigeki afterwards. Even so, you still needed to be lucky enough to have placed anti-raigeki before, but the glory of counter-nuking Yugi's board and see him like *CCCAN'T BE* was sublime.

  • @aaaaaa-bd2uj

    @aaaaaa-bd2uj

    Also I'm pretty sure you could activate it even if Yugi's board was empty, so the rule that states you can't activate on an empty board was added later on. Or maybe the rule had existed back then but they forgot to put that restriction in, idk. Either way though it's still pretty dumb because for how specific it is, and especially the conjunctive "and if you do" mentioned in problem solving card text, you would think they just allow the card to activate.

    What if they did a retrain of Anti-Raigeki, name it something like "Raigeki Rod" (since Raigeki's card art looks like lightning, so it's a play on a lightning rod). Have it be a continuous trap card with an effect reading: Once per turn, when your opponent activates "Raigeki", negate the activation of that card and destroy it, and if you do place one Raigeki counter on this card. You may destroy this card with one or more Raigeki counters on it, and if you do, destroy all monsters your opponent controls. That way it still holds the same idea of Anti-Raigeki, being that it stops your opponent's activation and blows up their board, but stores it until you're ready to use it making it interruption to your opponent's plays. Plus, depending on how exactly they worded the second effect, there would be room for you opponent to play around it. As written, if your opponent chains destruction to you activating it, then they destroy it, not you, and its effect fizzles. Or they could write it as "send it to the graveyard" instead of destroying it, and that way it gets floodgated out by Macro Cosmos or similar

    Reptile deck nowadays can cheat out worm victory to Field then just use yamorimori, the level 2 reptile card, that can make both opponent monster & yours face-down tho.

    I used to play a Worm Deck and Victory is really easy to trigger but usually from the graveyard, since Worm Zero, spear cretin and shallow grave can revive worms face down, and its easy to send there whit Snake rain or Worm Xex. His attack on 0 and no "?" helps a lot too, bcuz can be brought to the field whit Damage=Reptile from the deck or Damage gate from GY for a good defense in early turns or an attacker over 5000 is late game

    I also wanna add separately, Fabled Soulkius, World Legacy world Shield, and Des Volgstaph with Archfiend combo pieces works WONDERS with Blind Destruction in practice, I use it IRL in a "level/rank 6" dedicated deck where stuff like Archfiend commander and Bounzers play with Fiend Megacyber and you have a 5/6 chance of just, yeeting a material off of the board from your opponents side and on a 6, you usually have soft protection so again, you still win that trade 9/10 times. Worth a look into.

    I was totally expecting "Archlord Zerato" in this List. It has the classical early Bossmonster problem and due to its weird phrasing you can technically negate its effect by destroying "The Sanctuary in the Sky" with MST etc. Even if you can search "Warrior of Zera" with Reinforcments or "Unexpected Dai" but it is still not worth. Technically you can use Archlord Zeratos effekt with Master Flare Hyperion now, but why would you? :D

    Honestly anti reigeki would be better if it’s effect was something like “if your opponent activates a card or effect that would destroy monsters on your field(minimum 1) you can negate that effect, and destroy all monsters your opponent controls if any”, that way it wouldn’t just be a counter to reigeki, and would instead be a counter to all boardwipe tools. I’m not saying it’d see play, but at least it would have a chance
