Retired 23 years ago dumped my 3 piece suits, ties, shoes, dress shirts, watches (no Rolex’s 😢) put on a pair of trunks and left S. Calif. on my sailboat and anchored in Costa Rica. Simple lifestyle and no need to impress anybody called down here living “Pura Vida”. 🌴😎🌴

I've had the Yachtmaster II for about a decade and it is still pristine. I love it and have no desire for any other watch though I do have a couple Apple Watches for casual wear. The YM-II is quite a bit more expensive than what you mentioned at the end.

I liked the smaller size explorer with white gold numbers on the dial

I will stick with my $30 Timex watch bought at Walmart. All stainless design is both pretty to look at and very comfortable. And if I forget it in a public place I will just find another. Gives great time and batteries every 3-5 years.

The Explorer in the video cannot show two time zones, but the newer Explorer II can.

The Daytona bevel is upside down on the bottom unless it's a rotating bezel?

I bought my first Rolex in 1986, it was a stainless Sub for $1,400 to reward myself for my miserable one and only army tour as an officer. Bought a gold and steel Daytona, white face with gold sub dials for about $12,700 back in 2006. Finally, bought the stainless steel GMT II for about $7,500 in 2009. I couldn't come close to affording them now.

Ordered a Rolex Explorer II Polar Dial 226570 3 months ago...Im patiently waiting...will wear it till I go to Heaven and leave it to my son-in-law.

A very powerfull brand. Even among the top brands in the world. As said here, the master of micro engineering. But their brand building among so many other high quality watch makers has been astonishingly differentiating from others. Wimbledon Tennis tournament is just one example, how goid they are in branding. Owning the Rolex is more a feeling than anything. Its not only the quality ppl want, but much more status. Rolex offers both. All hugh quality watches can offer accuracy of time, but no one the status of Rolex. So their success will continue. For ever.

@turbyoul I was told by an ex AD that and I will use this as an example. Say a Rolex watch is Listed at rrp at an AD's for $10,000. The AD buys it for 68% .In this analogy it is bought for $6,800. So Rolex make a considerable profit on that $6,800 and has to , pay it's staff and pay the electricity bills and advertising and shipment/s, etc, So this $10,000 rrp priced watch is actually made for around a third devoted to parts and labour costs. So it makes about $3,300 profit on each watch and pays NO TAX because it is considered a charity . Now Flipper's are willing to buy that $10,000 watch for $12,000 from n AD and know they can flip it for $16,000 or more on the Grey market. That is ROLEX in a nutshell.

Wearing a €10,000 watch is just not a sensible move . .

Yes, guaranteed +/- 2 seconds per day, which is very good for any mechanical watch.

You nailed my point, bearing in mind the primary role of a wrist watch is to keep the correct time a Rolex is beaten every time in this function by a £50 digital Casio, its undeniable, which makes the Rolex just an over priced time piece or a fashion accessory, probably a bit of both really. @@whereRbearsTeeth

You can get super clones that no one can spot without 30X magnification for $1,200. Rolex's reputation has plummeted so far that the super clones are widely seen as the same level of class. They proved that you can build at 98% quality and sell for 5% the price while still making a profit. Think about that for a minute.

Wearing a replica may fool others but can't fool the wearer. In my book a Rolex is for rich people, whether they are old money or nouveaux riches, so I'll never own one as I'm not rich. I'm happy with my Omega & Tag, which are in synch with my financial standing and social status.
