great list. mine would be: 3rd strike tekken 5 soul calibur 2 capcom vs snk 2 garou kof 98 um marvel vs capcom 2 guilty gear xx accent core plus melty blood: actress again virtua fighter 4 evolution i didn't put them in order, because i like them all, but 3rd strike would probably be my favourite out of those ten games. i also didn't include collections like the alpha anthology, vampire collection or the neo geo volumes. there are tons of great fighting games on the ps2

Amen to That . *d(^-^)/* *P.S.* Imho, the *SVideo cable* is an absolute must as it improves video quality roughly 2.5 times. There's one for the PSP too that makes streaming to a TV one of the best ways to play PS1 titles quasi-natively, I'd say.

@@chronology556 I've literally tried every single option to enhance the quality and I have a couple component cables but nothing beats the sprite art on a CRT.

Great list of games both hardcore and casual players can enjoy, and they still hold up today. KoF 11, Mahvel 2, Soul Caliber 2, and Tekken 5 were probably the best time in my competitive childhood outside of Melee & Smash 3DS. All these games taught me how to be patient, respect neutral, and polished my reaction time with muscle memory. Which are skills I was able to carry over to other challenging single player games down the line. Those are great places to start, cus the learning curve is quite generous. Best part is a lot of these titles are still affordable.

I never bought Soul Calibur II on PS2 because the GameCube version had Link so...had to go with that one. KOF XI is one of my favorite fighting games of all time but screw that final boss, my god...

Another great list with varied choices. So many of which I just nodded and agreed with, like Mortal Kombat Armageddon, Dead or Alive 2, and Tekken 5. Awesome video as always man!

Nice video! I'll keep my eyes open for Dead or Alive 2 and Virtua Fighter 4. But one thing you should know is that at 12:36, you erroneously state that Dante is a playable character in Marvel vs Capcom 2, but he didn't debut until the third game in the series.

Soul Calibur II was fun, but my favorite is still Soul Calibur III. MK Armageddon is special to me because it was the first MK game I had played in a long time after falling out of the series due to other interests. I fell back in love with the franchise after spending my summer playing through it. It came at the right time too, because I was in a bit of a gaming low point after my entire PS2 memory card got corrupted. I came back to it for old time's sake and I was not disappointed. I loved the character creation too and it was supposed to be the last MK game but boy am I glad it wasn't! Tekken 5 is the one Tekken game I have the most experience with. I'm not very good at the game but I enjoyed playing it when it came out. Budokai Tenkaichi 3 I enjoyed as well, though I didn't play it as much as the other DBZ games.

Im suprised MK was even on the list . Even the MK fans hated the "dark ages" of the 6th gen MK era. It was MK9 which really brought MK back for most people.

SC3 was a ton of fun. SC2 is iconic for sure but we were all huddled around trying to fight the dancing statues. Tons of entertainment and yelling. SC3 OST was really good too.

Great video as always! All these games are great! Soul Calibur 2 and Dead or Alive 2 are big childhood favorites of mine. Also loved seeing a bit of my PS2 collection at the end there.

Dead or Alive 2 aged better than all the other games. The graphics are gorgeous, the game is fast and very fluid, the characters are awesome, the character movements are very realistic, the diverse soundtrack is great, and its Interactive Environments makes DOA2 more strategic than the other games.

The only thing being that it's the weakest of the 3 versions. Dreamcast port is better and 2 Ultimate on the Xbox is the definitive version. Says a lot about a game if the the worst version is still a must play.

I have a PS2 and have some of the games mentioned on this list: Soul Caliber 2, Tekken 5 (and Tag), Virtua Fighter 4. And I play those games regularly with my nephew and cousin (especially TT for the bowling game, it's so much fun). And it's amazing to me how almost 20 years or almost 20 years later, how amazing these games look. And how amazing they still play and sound. It's crazy to me how crappy the PS1 games look but the PS2, GameCube, X-Box have a good amount of games that still look amazing till this day, on the consoles. Not emulation or anything.

I have a soft spot for Street Fighter EX3 just because I love the Arika characters so much (especially Vulcano Rosso). Otherwise, I wish MvC2 wasn't so darn expensive. Some Japanese-only 2D fighters worth mention would be Sengoku Basara X and maybe even Melty Blood Actress Again.

nice list! would have picked a different king of fighters myself (maximum impact 2 / kof 2006), but i can agree with a lot of your selections. mortal kombat armageddon had so much to do and i especially liked the character kreation tool that gave a lot of options to unlock, BUT you can create terry bogart from fatal fury right away, which is one of my favourite customs in the game.

Great list! Def Jam FFNY, DBZ BT3, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, Capcom Vs. SNK 2 are some of the best fighting games ever made!

Tenkaichi 3 FTW! Stellar video as always man! You’ll find the best fighters across PS2 and Dreamcast. Tekken 5 and Soul Calibur 2 are huge standouts. Budokai 3 and the Street Fighter anniversary collection with Hyper Street Fighter and 3rd Strike was great too!

@@aceassn716 Problem is Sega locked it to the PlayStation platforms. I think that was because Sony helped fund it? But limiting its sales number is foolish and yet, very Sega like. Hopefully when we get a new Virtua Fighter game, it will be available on all platforms.

BR4 is widely hated from that series. Most people will say that the one exclusive to GC is the best one.

Pleased to see DOA in the thumbnail... though it's the one DOA game I've never experienced. Soulcalibur 3 and Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 are amongst my top 5 favourite PS2 games, so I'm hoping to see at least one of them here. 0:15 - Okay, wasn't the Soulcalibur I was expecting. Still a great game, though naturally overshadowed by it's GameCube counterpart. 4:25 - DOA's easy barrier of entry is such a great appeal to it. Combo's and exciting events via stage interactions come about quite quickly. Almost had the chance to get DOA2 recently but I hesitated to buy it because I couldn't remember if I had all the cables needed to set up the PS2. 9:35 - Another one of those instances where I had to go "Oh yeah, it released on the PS2 as well." I absolutely adored DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3... on the Wii.

I went with the JP ver. since I wanted the original soundtrack. _" Itoshisa to, Setsunasa to, Kokorozuyosa to "_ is a soulful - if a bit cheesy - climax theme quite fitting of Ryu and Ken's brotherly bond. This man has astoundingly good taste in video games. Doubt that? Have the integrity to simply TRY the games he mentions and you'll find that they are all actually a great deal better games, than many you will find being sold as "new games" today. Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and 3 are timeless in replay value as far as I am concerned. Phenomenal innovations for their time. Truly great games.

I've been playing mk armageddon recently and it's really fun!

You can have new series from Street Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Soul Calibur and its always improve every series But... Defjam is unique it's Brutal but exciting, one thing that im so apreciate is it can mix your fight style up to 3 fight style and i love the character take from real Rapstar from Snoop, Ludacris, Xzibit, Sean Paul, Fat Joe etc And sadly these days we don't have game just like Defjam again 🤦‍♂️

I remember my friends playing SOUL CALIBUR 2 on a PS2 rental near in our place back when i was in highschool 2000's so i cant forget Kilik as that was the character my friend always used hahaha... and for DOA it really has a good graphics and it will became much more better if you use the widescreen patch and on OPL you can upscale it to 1080i if your are using Component Cable..sometimes i play DOA2 and practice some moves..i wish Koei Tecmo implement a similar character movement to Tekken because its hard to sidestep sometimes when you press Up 2 times the character will jump because in my opinion DOA2 is so similar to Tekken 5 in terms of fighting style back then "NO OVER THE TOP MOVES OR DEATHCOMBOS" by the way i have a PS2 Rental back 2008-2010 and the mostly played games was Tekken 5 and DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 3..and youre right about Budokai "ITS THE DEFINITIVE" same aspect for Tekken 5...i do recommend also Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja 4 and 5 (JPN) as in my experience and my customers playing it..its also a DEFINITIVE for the PS2 era...from Story Mode to fast action Versus mode...PS2 is still the best console who also have the BEST GAMES ever made..that you still keep coming back to play it...Anyways NICE VIDEO SIR!!! 10 must have fighting games on ps2 Also no wrestling games like def jam and wwe smackdown. 1. Tekken 5 - the best fighting game on ps2 if not one of the greatest fighting games of all time! And one of the best games on ps2! A must own game! 2. Soul Calibur 3 - i love soul calibur 2 and think its a must own game as well but if someone gonna ask me what’s the best soul calibur game on ps2 is soul calibur 3. Have a good story mode, have a create a character mode and unlike the 2nd game this one is unique because it’s ps2 exclusive! 3. Tekken Tag Tournament- the last namco fighting game i gonna write here (if urban reign even counts as a fighting game but it’s not) the best ps2 launch title and actually aged well! If people rather play something more similar to the ps1 tekken games than tekken 4 & 5 or even tekken 7 this one is very recommended. 4. Capcom VS SNK 2 - one of three capcom fighting games I recommend and in my opinion the better version of the game that’s you can play. A good roster, very fun and challenging and look good. 5. Fate/unlimited codes - the 2nd capcom fighting game and sadly it’s japanese only on ps2. Developed by 8ing (bloody roar, tatsunoko vs. capcom and marvel vs. capcom 3) and they managed to make a really good fighting game. 6. Vampire Darkstalkers Collection - in my opinion the best capcom fighting collection on ps2 and the definitive way to play any darkstalkers game at all! Even the recent capcom fighting collection doesn’t have sone content from this collection that’s insane. Sadly another japan only game but it’s not hard to play. 7. The King of Fighters 11 - the best 2D KoF on PS2, the most wildest roster in any 2D KoF, fun 3 on 3 tag mode and look and sound great. A must own on ps2. 8. The King of Fighters Maximum Impact Regulation A - another japan only game but i think its the best MI game, the roster is decent and the gameplay is much better than all of the MI games because it’s feel more like the regular 3 on 3 Team battle gameplay from the classic KoF games. 9. Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution - one of the best looking fighting games on ps2 and have great fighting gameplay. A must own for VF and sega fans. 10. Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 - I can’t recommend tenkaichi 3 because it’s not a fighting game (it’s a battle arena game) and for me a must own dragon ball game is budokai 3 (not tenkaichi 3 that’s shown on the video). It’s by far a very good looking game and fun and have great single player content. I could also recommend infinite world (the sequel for budokai 3) but I can’t because it’s harder than budokai 3 and basically less good. Honorable mentions (good games but not must own in my opinion on ps2): Marvel VS Capcom 2 - one of the greatest fighting games of all time but i think the dreamcast version is the best version and also its gonna get a modern port (it’s already got an arcade1up release recently). Tekken 4 - i like tekken 4 but i think tekken tag and 5 are must own because their legacy. Soul Calibur 2 - the ps2 version it’s in my opinion the best version of the game available today (got delisted from ps3 and 360 recently) because the arcade board that’s run the game is basically a ps2 and it’s was an easy port and a dualshock controller it the best controller for a 3d namco fighting game but… it’s not a must own because the gamecube got the best guest character and the original xbox support 720p so maybe the ps2 is the best version but not the popular version also soul calibur 3 exists. Neo Geo Battle Colliseum - i love this game its just Capcom Fighting Evolution but good! But i think its not a must own game because the 360 version exists and its backwards compatible. But at least the ps2 version have 3d backgrounds. Mortal Kombat Armageddon - great roster but the lack of fatalities ruin the fun. Also not a must buy game because the wii version is the better one and the best mk game on ps2 is Shaolin Monks and it’s not a fighting game. Dead or Alive 2 - good game but I really don’t think any of the dead or alive titles are a must own on any playstation platform. Get it on xbox its work on any xbox with backwards compatibility. Bloody Roar 3 & 4 - i like the bloody roar games I recommend to try any of them but they not a must buy especially the ps2 games. Primal Fury and Extreme are the best. Any of the Street Fighter games - the only one i can recommend is ex3 but it’s not a must buy game. Alpha Anthology it’s a good collection but not the definitive way to play most of the games (maybe if you want to play hyper street fighter alpha). Third Strike is better on ps3 and 360 and hyper available on modern consoles. Super Dragon Ball Z - made by arika (street fighter ex) it’s unique dragon ball game but i rather play any of the dimps budokai games. Any of the Sega Ages Fighting Games - Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Viper and Last Bronx got ps2 ports they japanese only release sadly (the games are in English) but very recommended for sega fans but they are not must own because vf2 and fv1 available on newer hardware (ps3 and 360) but last bronx is still stuck on ps2 and saturn.

Fun Fact: AKI Corp. is now under a different name it is known today as Syn Sophia

Nah. Tekken 5 is the best, plus it has so much more content.

a few subs for my list Soul Cal 3 over 2 due to the character customization, Tekken Tag Turny over Tekken 5, KOF Maximum Impact 2 / KOF 2006) over KOFXI, Guilty Gear over Def Jam

I would add, Timesplitters to the list.

The only 3 I don't own are VF4, DJ and MvC2. I own over 80 fighting games across all 5 PS's and some other consoles and handhelds. I would have definitely picked Deception over Armageddon.

Bloody Roar is 1 of my favorites on ps2

urban reign, the most underated ps2 game out there way better than any def jam

If the list is for games only released in the UK, then I'd say that Guilty Gear XX is a huge omission from the list. but if we're counting jp only games as well, surely the PS2 version of Fist of the North Star definitely deserves to be in on this list!

No Samurai Shodown love? The SS collection is excellent.

Great selection, but not including Street fighter III third strike, and especially Guilty gear X2 🧐

You messed up by not mentioning one game … that’s right - Street Fighter Alpha Anthology - arcade perfected versions of all the alpha era games - extra modes in all of the games such as survival and dramatic battles - and of course the hidden both Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper which has extra characters unlocked like Shin Akuma and Evil Ryu and Hyper Street Fighter Alpha , where you can play as any character from any street fighter leading up into Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper and can select special fighting styles that will allow you to parry or perform moves as if you were in the Marvel Vs Capcom series of games Easily my favorite fighter on the PS2 next to Marvel VS Capcom 2 and Capcom VS SNK 2

That opening theme though. Shit. I'm ready to square up after hearing that

Given how many AMAZING Fighting games there are on PS2, I'm sure it was a tough choice. Plus we can get like 4 more videos on this topic👍

Def Jam FFNY the best of that era to me AKI developed nuff said

marvel vs capcom 2 goes for about $100 for used copy even though it was one the best selling games on all platforms for some reason all sellers still want high price for a game thats not rare and all the capcom vs games for the 5th gen system are high too except capcom vs snk those games are always fairly priced

The DOA series is unfairly underrated. Everyone is on team Virtua Fighter, but DOA are much better games with much better Martial Arts moves.

Virtua Fighter is more underrated than DOA internationally now. Virtua Fighter still remains very popular in Japan.

Kof XI has an abysmal final boss

for me, Bloody Roar 4 & Street Fighter EX3 should be there.

I actually preferred King of Fighters Maximum Impact and King of Fighters 2006 over any of the others in the series.

There's DBZ Budokai 3 and DBZ Tenkaichi 3. Both are great games in their own right. Any DBZ fan would thoroughly enjoy both!

Man you forgot Hokuto No Ken even broken, this game is a must play. And SoulCalibur3 was far more complete than 2.

I know that this is technically cheating, but Alpha Anthology was an amazing addition to the PS2. I know that it was a compilation, but what a compilation it was. Soul Calibur III was fantastic, Mortal Kombat: Deception was a lot of fun. Street Fighter III: Third Strike is an amazing game! Budokai 3 to me is just as good as Tenkaichi 3.
