I have never heard someone with a doctorate in a not physician type of field call themselves a "doctor" but I have seen tons of people who have doctorates in other fields being called "Doctor". I would assume some people do refer to themselves that way though as it is not wrong.

@@cornlips7247 well for academic doctorates it is proper to use the term doctor, but for professional it is not, with the exception of MD's. For instance, an engineer is just an engineer, but once the engineer gets a Ph.D then it is proper to call them doctor. Same with many other disciplines. But this lady has a JD, so it is not proper. The term used is Esquire.

I honestly don't think he 'appreciates' them. I think he might be thankful that his career got a boost when he discovered his innate talent for heckler shutdowns, but I've never heard any comedian ever say "I love my hecklers." Steve's even gone on record several times that he hates hecklers, because he just wants to do his set and have everyone laugh. Remember: no matter how successful he got because of the popularity of heckler videos, each time a heckler interrupted him, the rest of the audience was denied hearing something they paid to hear (and yes, some of them paid in the hopes of hearing a heckler verbal beatdown, but it's naive to think they all paid for that.) On top of which, sometimes these people talk and talk for several minutes before he finally decides to address it. In those instances, the people around them were denied being able to enjoy a comedy show for several minutes because of stupid, entitled people. And I think (and this is my opinion only) that Steve really hates the hecklers for doing that to his paying (well-behaved) customers. Even if he is good at turning the situation around 99 times out of 100.

I just became aware of Steve today. This and the other videos where he has to deal with hecklers wins my admiration for him, because he's so fast and versatile with his comebacks. This is the kind of masterful comedy that reminds me of another comedian who is fast on his feet with a great unscripted comeback, Robert Smigel as Triumph. Not everyone can pull it off seeming so effortless. The downside to these videos are the hecklers. What is going on? When I was younger, in the eighties and nineties, I frequented comedy clubs with my then-spouse and our friends. I cannot recall one incident where an audience member heckled the comedian. I can't help but wonder if it is not a generational thing. Yes, I know about the rude hecklers back in the fifties through some of the seventies, but eventually hecklers diminished as it was a sure way to be kicked out- it was disrespectful and being drunk was losing it's cool. Now, it's like all these people think they are going to grab the spotlight and one-up a pro. Really? Good on Steve for taking them on and shutting them up.
