Top Ten BRONZE AGE COMICS | BEST 10 comic books 1970's covers by Comicsamurai

This week’s challenge was to show Bronze Age comic book covers. The Bronze Age started around 1970 and went through the early 1980's. Most collectors agree the Bronze Age ended with Secret Wars, Crisis, or The New Teen Titans. I make an argument for another possible ending. These are the top examples by Comicsamurai. If you want to take part in the fun, use the hashtag in your title.

    Nice list. There's an argument to be made for a best bronze age list of covers just from Treasury Editions alone. Off the top of my head, I would nominate Spidey Super Stories #20 & #48 and the Brave and the Bold #134.

    NO !! NO WAY !! I refuse to even give it a try, this is the sure path to brain aneurysm. Because Bronze Age is my favorite age for comics, I love almost everything, every Bronze Age comic is the best, especially from Marvel. Your selection is great, as everyone's will also be... I'm forfeiting this time.

    I hear you! Comics are fun, no matter what age you love. I prefer the Copper Age just because that is the time that I started to buy comics off the racks. I appreciate your comment and totally dig the fact that you love comics from this time period. Rock and Roll!!!

    Severely. I feel so strongly about this that it was one of the very first comics I ever featured as a Hidden Gem. A true landmark issue that gets glossed over. Those of us who know, know. Thanks for the comment!!!

    I'm sorry, but I'm pretty sure that your information is incorrect. Please correct me if I'm wrong but Fantastic Four #112 came out July, 1971. Incredible Hulk #122 came out December, 1969. Also, The Thing and The Hulk also fought in Fantastic Four #12 (1st) and in #25 and #26 (2nd), so your numbering of the fights does not seem right. In any event, thanks for the comment!!!

    Your choices are brilliant. It's hell narrowing it down.The John Buscema age is the best age by far IMO. My list would be different because super-heroes aren't really my favorite comic genre. Marvel Premiere #1 Warlock, Marvel spotlight #2 Werewolf and #5 Ghost Rider, Tomb of Dracula #1, Conan #4, Marvel Feature #1 Defenders, Fantastic Four #116, Spider-man #100, Avengers #92, and a gratuitous random Cerebus entry You have the most influential list well crafted, so I tried to go with the overall quality angle. Roy Thomas saved comic books.

    You could get a pretty impressive list doing a "best bronze runs" list. I would start that one with Englehart's Dr. Strange, and Thomas' Kree-Skrull war and Claremont's Phoenix.

    Thanks again for the great comment! One of the great things about John Buscema's stuff is that it is recognizable. His was the first work I could look at and identify the artist. He had style! Marvel Premiere 1 is one of my favorite comics! What a cover!!! Those Spotlights are groundbreaking! It's interesting how all of the horror characters made their debuts without their names in the titles (except Dracula which is fitting). There's still a lot of Kirby influence in Conan 4's beautiful spider cover. I enjoyed all the early Defenders stuff, underrated! I like the blue in FF 116, but that one stands out in your choices. What's the draw? THAT'S how you do a #100 cover on Spider-man! I dig that you put Adams on your list with Avengers #92 (totally overlooked).

    @@thecomicsamurai Roy Thomas and Jonn Buscema are very under-appreciated for their impact on the comic industry IMO. They didn't produce many masterpieces but they never ever sucked. The genius, to me, was how they were able to clone themselves over and over while they ran production at Marvel in the 70's. They synthesized Stan and Jacks' system into the "Marvel way to do comics" and taught it to others. When I hear "Bronze Age," to me those two are the Bronze age. I know you know all that but I just wanted it out there. I didn't realize it was controversial to love FF # 116. I think it was the definitive Dr. Doom personality and solidified him as Marvel's best villain. It's the mad genius Dr. Doom we all have come to expect. I still consider it the most important Doom book since the Kirby era and the one that launched his super "hero" status. I think 115 is integral to the story. Which do you think is the most important Dr. Doom book? I resent Lucas for ripping him off.

    What’s the difference between the copper age and the plastic age?

  • @thecomicsamurai

    @thecomicsamurai

    9 ай бұрын

    Good question! The only difference is the year the comic was published. For simplicity and for this video series, The Copper Age ran from 1980 to 1989. The Plastic Age ran from 1990 to 1999. There is much debate about the exact dates and what comics were first and last of each age. Also, there are differences in tone, art, materials (paper, ink, printing process), and cover price. Thanks for the great comment!!!
