I ran my bike to top speed too. I hate the speed limiter. On 6th gear the thing will hit 118mph and then cut power until it's like 114mph and there's no throttle response. On 5th gear it's a bit easier to trick the speed limiter but I can only get 123mph out of my Scrambler.

In this video, I only reached 185 km/h, which I consider okay for this type of motorcycle. Going above 200 km/h would be very difficult and tiring for several kilometers. I'm planning to install the smaller OEM windscreen, which might add 2 or 3 km/h to the top speed. However, I usually don't ride over 140 km/h. I find this to be my ideal speed, especially when traveling on motorways, which I generally try to avoid during my trips. Enjoy your Scrambler ;)

Have to partially lift the left hand to operate the indicator switch - major flaw...

I still lack practice, because my previous bike had the indicators in a different position and I have small hands. But nothing that stresses me out 👍

How is this bike on long trips? Can it be used as a touring bike?

Everything will depend on the style of motorcycle you are used to and the comfort you want. For me, who rarely rides on motorways and at speeds of up to 140 km/h, this bike is perfect for my rides. I've done more than 850 km in a single day with this bike and arrived at my destination perfectly well. But I also never had very comfortable motorcycles, my previous experience is a Honda PCX 125cc, which I also covered 980 km in a single day and a Honda NC750x. If you're going to ride mostly on highways, this isn't the most suitable bike. If you want to travel on other types of roads at a speed of up to 140 km/h, then that might be it. The original seat is very comfortable for me and the driving position is also very good. This bike fits perfectly for my riding and touring style. I will soon add a small windscreen and side panniers. Next summer I will do Portugal - Sweden, passing through the Pyrenees again and the Alps.

Do you feel vibrations at higher speeds?

  • @RockingabRoad

There is a bit of vibration, but nothing annoying. But this is an engine that vibrates in a higher rpm range.

On long rides the heat doesn't bother me. But when you stop, you feel it and sometimes it gets very hot, even though it's the Euro5 model. But as I live in Sweden the heat is not very bothersome. If I lived in southern Europe and needed to use the motorbike in city traffic, it might not be my option. It's a 1200cc engine so it's normal for the heat to be felt. But on the open road it doesn't bother me at all. I did more than 600 km in a row and had no problems with comfort or heat.

@@RockingabRoadWhy would Euro 5 bike have less heat output? Lean mixture leads to hotter running so there is expected to be more heat with Euro 5 than with earlier models. Right?

  • @RockingabRoad

@@varmastiko2908 In this model, the catalytic has been relocated to the rear of the exhaust system, which differs from the previous model where it was situated closer the leg. On the Euro 4 model, it was possible to change it replacing the catalytic with straight pipes. On the Euro 5 by simply replacing the exhaust system, you can eliminate the catalytic and consequently reduce heat levels.

I added a semi-high windshield from Puig to my (optimized) MT09 SP - with full race leathers and an AGV Pista RR helmet i am able to hit 249 km/h in 5th on the racetrack and 263 km/h in 6th on the German Autobahn (GPS -8%) - thanks to much improved aerodynamics. This way, I am able to do fast motorway legs at a cruising speed of 160 - 180 km/h and still enjoy the bike's legendary agility on the mountain passes... Just wondering why riders fall for a (heavy and slow) Scrambler 1200 in the first place 🥱

@@SirMountainpass I live in a country that unfortunately only allows me about 4 to 5 months of motorbike tours and I normally only use the motorbike for trips on secondary roads. So I can say that I'm just a motorcyclist who likes touring and fell in love with the style of the scrambler. I'm not passionate about speed and unfortunately I don't have sports bike skills. I hope you continue to enjoy your MT 09 and you like it as much as I like my scrambler. Good rides 👍
