Also, if you are one of those rare couples or singles not looking to have kids (at least for awhile) avoiding these suburbs can get you a similar house/location for several hundred thousand less. You might get a bit less capital growth, but you might get a house in a great location for a price you can afford if you don't care about the schools. So it works both ways. Just be informed when you make your offer, you will need a very strong offer in these good school catchments, and can put in a little less crazy of an offer outside of them.

Everton Park SHS catchment is a good example of this, and school is on the move up.

The only way to get into Mansfield is to be in catchment, have a sibling already attending the school, or be accepted into one of their excellence programs: French, Music, or IT. Out of catchment students must compete with other students for a place in one class for each of the excellence programs, which are highly contested and A-level students are not guaranteed a place in them. While there are a huge number of students, I've found the teachers place the same care and attention on their students as at smaller schools. The primary schools within the Mansfield catchment are also fantastic schools. Great video Luke!

can confirm what is said here is true, except now I'm pretty sure the sibling rule doesn't apply anymore. There are people I know who bought houses in catchment just to get in the school but the school you go to doesn't affect your level of success in life

It certainly helped my parents house value when they sold seeing we lived walking distance away from Mansfield

As a former Mansfield High student, would I enrol my daughter there? No way. School is even bigger than it was when I was there and we had 13 year 12 classes back then. It’s bigger now. Teachers don’t care about you. It’s a sink or swim school with no culture.
