I was in the audience at this recording. The shows were not recording in one go. Robert Palmer was not there, it was pre-recorded. Also, Jason Donovan performed Sealed With a Kiss, but it wasn't shown until two weeks later.

@@columbannon9134 But that my friend i called a sample. And a sample is copyright as it is part of the song- Like when Flo Rida took a sample fro Dead or Alive-Spin me round-Flo Rida explained that he listened to "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" and similar records growing up as a result of the varying music genres his seven sisters listened to. Ultimately, his A&R Aaron Bay-Schuck came up with the idea to sample "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" in a song.[6] Bay-Schuck told HitQuarters that he had been listening to a shuffle beat produced by DJ Frank E on a CD of potential beats and had kept hearing in his head the melody of the Dead or Alive song over the top of it. Then they got permission to use the sample and paid for it

I have a soft spot for music from the late 80s cos I was coming into my teens and was starting to understand things a bit more, and though 1989 was a pivotal and tough year for me, I remember it with fondness, whereas my childhood in the early to mid 80s, though great in so many ways, was a confusing time for me.. That said I know what you mean. I think its why in the early 90s, Grunge coming into the fore was kind of a "welcome change" for many. Same with Britpop in the mid 90s.

Everyone is hating on the music of this era, but personally I think it's pretty cool. You can totally hear the fusion the sound of the 80s along with what the 90s is about to bring. I like how this era of music heavily uses that classical piano sound in the background. That was such a thing during the late 80s and a huge chunk of the early 90s. The fashion was super fun as well.

Midnight Oil were mentioned being in the charts in the run down, to mention just one that managed to sneak through the gap into foul smelling shit that was 99% thanks to the Stock Aitken Waterman, long may they rot in hell.

1989, last of the great music, as by then the music was really starting to decline, got even worse when a new wave took over in the 90's, like grunge, rap and rave and ''Bomp, bomp, bomp''. The best music was 60's, 70's and 80's. RIP great music. 1960 - 1989.

Given the state of the music industry today where you have the likes of Ed Sheeran occupying 16 places in the top 30 at one point, (yeah I couldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes thinking that was just......wrong) I never ever in my wildest dreams would have considered myself saying this but Stock, Aitkin and Waterman........please come back, all is forgiven. I used to be a religious listener of the Radio 1 top 40 on a Sunday afternoon but now I find listening to Radio 1 "or" commercial radio for that matter too painful. It would appear that no station can go any longer than 3 minutes without bangin on about some reality tv crap or playing a cardboard manufactured reality tv artists song that no one is going to remember approximately 6 weeks later. At least the songs that appear here we "STILL" remember to this day and some of the bands and artists are still performing. You can't say that about anything created in the 21st Century almost like the generation today were either absent or just weren't interested when that longevity skillset was being passed on.

By this time the best music was behind the scenes in clubs, pirate radio stations, alot of great rap coming over from america etc, unless you were a youthful 18 year old like myself it would probably would have seemed that pop quality was on a downward spiral. I suppose that's when acid house took over as it was something new and fresh, a trend like punk in the seventies. Being a synth fan I found my calling at this time, so many great tunes with great baselines just kept on coming and coming, Hifi was all Cd and cd single, vinyl went ballistic with tons of EuroDance and American Stuff, trying to nab the latest tune in the back street record stores that were everywhere. Great times. Music was reborn but you had to like and be in the acid house scene to get the best of it, otherwise you were given what you were given from the charts and a mixed bag it was. But oh boy if you loved dance, synth and rap and a cracking baseline with many quality samples this was the best time

The 80's were dead at this point in my opinion. Too many manufactured acts and too many samples and DJ's who can't tell an Anderson from a Hamilton !!!!!!

Tone Loc - absolute classic. Can you imagine the uproar if these lyrics (@4:25) were heard by today's "easily offended?!"

I'd have HATED the Edelweiss song at the time (even as a pre-teen, I liked to think of myself as musically superior) but these days I'd be bopping around the office without a care...

Is there a decade pattern? Its a coin toss, every ten years you will have period. Late 2000s to now - plagiarism Early 2000s-Late 90s - Ace Mid 90s - Boy Bands Late 80s- early 90s - the sampling era. Mid 80s- Ace Late 70s to early 80s - the cross over 60s - awesome ... actually theres no pattern, its just what i like, as you were 🤣
