Top level event horse returning to work after 18 months Box rest.

Ойын-сауық

As much as I appreciate everyone’s concern and advice in regards to how to ride, how not to ride, saddle fit, possible pain issues and any other words of wisdom, I can assure you that Donald is bucking because this was his first time being allowed to do anything other than walk in hand in nearly 2 years.
He was rehabbing from a major ligament injury.
Owing to the fact that he is and always has been a complete lunatic when turned out in the field it was not possible to give him Field rest.
Even now he jumps the 6 foot fence or gate to come back to his stable when he has had enough turnout.
Again thank you for the concern , but this video is a compilation of his exciting outbursts of the course of a 10 minute ride. His first bit of trot work in nearly 2 years.
He has always been a very excitable horse and is also a top level competitor. Thank you for your concerns,
I’m pleased to confirm that he has now returned to international level competition and is aiming for the Paris Olympics next year for team Ireland. Fingers crossed you will see us there.
Kind regards
Fred and Donald.

i have to say I'm impressed with the composition and stickability! Especially when he went sideways and then did those two huge rears. You could tell from his body language that he was letting of huge amounts of "go" and probably frustration at all the changes. This may not be something a traditional british rider would immediately reach for but natural horsemanship/groundwork could have also resolved that (Steve Young springs to mind - has a channel here too. I've never seen such expertise and compassion combined. He brings horses back from the absolute brink in a matter of hours) But it seems like you found your own way and if you can sit out those bucks then I guess it worked! Well done with your combined achievements. A beautiful looking horse.

@@Bluemoonfarm17I would get him back into training by starting with lots of regular groundwork. Then I'd add quiet hacking with a sensible companion before riding in the school where I would start on a long rein in a relaxed walk. It's clear this horse has been pushed too fast into resuming normal work. It needs to go back to basics and introduced slowly back into work and done properly, no reason he couldn't go bareback and bridleless.

@@sarahwagland1559 I agree with all you said here. However, apparently the rider was pushing this horse to return to work so quickly because he says in the description under the video that he hopes to compete with this horse in the Paris Olympics, so he was in a hurry to rush back into training when the horse's injury healed. I agree with your approach, Sarah.

Regardless of reasons from horse perspective... as going to trust such a rider knows their horse well enough to know. That's an amazing seat. Wow! Maybe when I was 18 years old many many moons ago I could stay on such moves... glued to saddle with balance & still reins. -- I miss being able to ride, but have put up my saddle & keep feet on the ground. Takes strength & balance & skills that I no longer possess. Very nice Mr. Scala.

Excitement, or just another horse sick of having its mouth constantly yanked on. Anyone with eyes and a shred of intelligence can see the obvious. But the equestrian community will say "Look how happy that horse is, he's saying , more please, pull harder, force my chin on to my chest, I love it". I used to think farmers and hunters were the cruest people on the planet, but watching many equestrians, I think they take that prize
