Letterbox isn’t a place for people who actually enjoy movies, it’s a place for people to feel dominion over movies. Making lists about “movies where specific thing happens starring this actor” has nothing to do with appreciating movies, it’s just showing you know what happens in a lot of them. I always thought Greg Turkington from on cinema was a ridiculous caricature but that’s literally how all letterboxed fans act. People can tell you who composed every soundtrack ever made but they can’t tell you how any of it made them feel.

i'm glad people are pushing back on these kinds of glib reviews, because you see them and this behavior so often in so many different spaces and it's really exhausting. review and comment sections, even for humorless media with a lot of room for continued discussion, keep just using that media as the theme for their comedy club where these internet guys are going to fight to be the funniest person in the room. it creates an atmosphere that affects the people who still do want to share their earnest thoughts and makes them second guess themselves. that's how we get stuff like what we see at 2:40-a review that fails to say anything meaningful because they decided to be funny instead, and fails to be funny because they didn't actually have a joke to tell. i'd rather steam reviews be as sincere and passionate as that one for karryn's prison he read on stream than how detached and lifeless they usually are. stop writing reviews for stuff you have nothing to say about, stop making jokes just for the sake of making them, let yourself say what you think and let that reflect whatever parts of you that it may, and be real.

I watch it during my workout and while playing games. I don't necessarily claim to have a 100% understanding of a movie and it's not every movie I watch this way, but certain movies are definitely first monitor content. Some movies make perfect audio books. Especially ones that are not too high budget; like direct to TV movies often are just a bit lower quality on the visual side; yet still contain interesting stories; maybe even true ones. I don't see the problem; I'm watching them for my own satisfaction; not to win some award. At the end of the day I'm watching the same amount of movies as I would have. It's just a movie.

Someone once said the 4 and 2 star reviews are the truth and not just bandwagoning

  • 4 күн бұрын

I can't fully blame those people, because Letterboxd doesn't let you private your own reviews. Sometimes I just want to write a silly thing about the movie, but the only way is to write a review and I can't even "hide review" or "visible to friends only". EVERYONE in the website needs to see your "review", even if it's just a dumb joke.

Even though some people on IMDB are really annoying and thoughtless with their reviews, letterboxd wins the stupid award by far when it comes to film reviews. It's like walking into an instagram comment section where people are trying to find the dumbest joke to make to get likes.

its just not that serious, there are genuine reviewers on letterboxd, but you kinda have to find them, and then follow them so you see their reviews at the top of your list. But again its just not that serious, most people just use letterboxd to Log movies, and see what their friends are watching.

I sometimes like joke reviews and sometimes I cant stand them, I'm kind of a hypocrite. Like when I love a movie and everyone else also loves it I don't really care as much to see people regurgitate a bunch of points about why the movie I also liked is good and I like seeing peoples dumb jokes after the movie. There never top tier comedy but they might get a nose exhale laugh out of me. But when I like a movie and letterboxd doesn't or when I dislike a movie and they like it and all the top reviews are just those lame nose exhale worthy jokes I don't like that because I want to see peoples deeper thoughts and see why most people disagreed with me. I don't really care that much tho. This whole video kind of bothers me because it feels like an old man yelling at a bunch of teenagers because they don't engage with movies the way he wants them too. I assume your other content is better the way this comments section is sucking you off but this video was kind of bad.
