Unfortunately much as I love clothes and fashion, at 65 I don’t think any of these looks would be apropos - I’d stop traffic for the wrong reason . I did like the Chanel cardigan over the tiny shorts - I knitted a similar one 45 years ago which everyone called my “ ethnic Peruvian horse blanket “! I loved it though , it would have been on trend . Dear Justine , can you do something on how us older ladies can use these looks , translate them into something we can enjoy ?

While you can absolutely wear whatever you want as someone who is 26 I now understand how much bodies change as you get older! I think that’s why it’s so hard for people to make looks for “older” women because there’s so much more variety! It’s the same reason so many books are written about teens and young adults, we are more “relatable” because we don’t have as many distinct life experiences yet. Kinda sad though because I think variety in art is really awesome and age is a fairly unexplored category (especially for women)

For example, a military-inspired olive jacket with feminine pieces, like a floral midi dress, or a maxi skirt, and sometimes even paired with combat boots. I went the other way during the lockdowns. I noticed that I just sat on the couch when I wore sweatpants. I upgraded all my sweatpants to linen pants (still with a stretchy waistband but a very different look) and invested in some very comfy bralettes. For the masc/femme I’ve always kinda done that, I’ve been wearing men’s jeans and watches for years paired with very feminine shoes. No tiny shorts for me - I hate sitting down and sticking to a hot plastic seat. I want them mid thigh at least. 😄 I like the metallic trend. I have a satin gold top that I haven’t worn in years because I thought it looked dated but I guess I can take it out again.

I'm in my sixties, lost ~40 lbs in the 3-6 months before and the first 6-12 months of the pandemic (Dec 2019 - ~Jan/Feb 2021), and although I have regained 5-10 lbs and no longer look quite so cadaverishly thin, I look better with at least the top half of my thighs covered (hiding loose skin). @flower-ss2jt I also went to the disco clubs of the late '70s/early '80s. My preference at that time was for shiny lycra leotards usually a faux wrap style in a tank or long sleeved version depending on the season, a matching lycra wrap or pull-on skirt, Sheer Energy or similar compression pantyhose or tights, and sandles which were exchanged for highland dance ghillies once inside the club and we had established a base of operations, basically dance gear. At least half of us were involved with Scottish country dancing, some also took highland dance and competed throughout the Southeast highland games and were there strictly to dance. The group was usually a half dozen or more.

Thanks for your clear and always relaxed observations on the trends, Justine. Whoa....tiny shorts! I'm not surprised that designers have surrendered to Tiny Shorts -- they have taken over, and girls are not giving them up! I'm in Sydney. Teenagers and the under-25's wear tiny shorts (weather permitting) pretty much every time they step out the door - on the trains, buses, going shopping, to the movies and Into Town. Tiny shorts are not just "beach" or "festival" attire here. Parents have had to accept that their 12-year-old-and-up daughter must be allowed to wear tiny shorts in the street, if she wants to fit in with her peer group. For the young they an Essential Wardrobe Piece, and they are in every clothing shop that caters to those under 30. As proof of this, tiny shorts are one of the 2 basic uniform pieces for young waitresses in most cafes near me. The other basic bottom piece worn by waitresses is leggings (very thin, like opaque pantihose), over a G-string and with an elasticised top above. Bra very optional. I am still mildly bemused by being served my coffee by someone who appears to have put an apron on directly over her underwear.

I look forward to your videos because you are so straight forward with information. How is your house renos going. Southern France is so beautiful with large open areas not developed. I can't wait to see what you do with such a stunning home with the great bones it has. Best of luck.

Short shorts are great when your best assets are your legs. I wouldn’t wear extremely short versions (like swim suit bottoms really), but pretty short - yes. They’re just the comparable idea of a crop top looking great on pear and hourglass shapes.

Always so informative and fascinating. I learn so much from your measured responses to things. Watching some of these trends and seeing some of the red carpet wear, I am often left wondering if some of the clothes lean into figure skating costume.

Justine, I just want to say that you've helped me find my style in every way. Just about every piece of clothing I buy has mostly natural fibers, I know how to look for pieces that are well made, I know what pieces go well with my skin tone, I've found my main inspiration (timeless parisian), which includes my makeup style (natural, highlighting my features rather than covering, with a pop of red lipstick) and I know which clothing works with my body shape. I grew up with a single mother who was a total hippie- ripped jeans, soft tops with holes in them, no makeup- and you've taught me all I needed to know to be confident and to be true to myself. I'm enormously grateful to you ❤️

I will only take up the trends of masculine/feminine and refined athleisure, which I do anyway. And where it works for me, the idea of flowers - or in my case, other starkly contrasting forms - against a dark background. This can also be done beautifully with a large silk flower brooch or similar formed piece of material.

Love the flower artwork, especially the McQueen one. I like the sheer covering over the mini shorts. The silver fluid pieces look comfortable and classy. I'm petite in height, so I'm not crazy for oversized masculine wear. Wonderful review. Thank you, Justine.

Love the liquid metals trend. Not easy to wear on an everyday basis, but I definitely will try! (Accessories, or pairing with sporty / casual). Also I LOVED the Gucci looks, all of them. So modern and...wearable!

Thank you, Justine, for this review! I love these videos! What I especially like in the post-pandemic trends is focus on natural materials, neutral colors, and versatility that bring comfort first and focus less on objectification of women. I remember in the past there were lots of trends that were "sexy" and revealing AND uncomfortable to wear in almost all situations. I am glad it's changing now.

I like a lot of these! I discovered I already have some tiny shorts - but I bought them to make my swimsuit more modest... I really like the soft/hard trend and as I sew and will make a sheer skirt with matching shorts (and a toning in shirt, too, all in dark green). I'll also make a blouse from a rose print I have stashed away and aim to wear it with trousers.

I like the combination of masculine and feminine. Being 5’9” and a rectangle shape type, this combo has worked best for me throughout my adult life. Glad to see it’s “officially” back in style. I also like the metallic trend but would keep it on the subtle side.
