The impending prohibition will make a comeback as phone and social media prohibitions pick up steam nationwide. CBS New York's Dave Carlin reports.

Wait till they can't contact you during an emergency or one of the teachers does something to your children then you will wish they had their phone on them to be able to call you during what could be their last moments or record the interaction of the foul play

@@supergenerationgamers Please do tell all these moments you encounter on a daily basis or the crappy school your child goes to that allows the thing you mentioned. Give me a break with the school emergency or what “IF” a teacher does something. Does your child go to a school with no other students around or zero workers. You speak as if a teacher is just walking around smacking children up like it’s a gang. You do realize it’s 2024 and schools have cameras in every corner/security. Phones became widely available around early 2000s. Believe me texting was just as distracting to the students. How come only now we have to tell kids to GET OFF their phones. Parents decide to make up excuses for their kids “oh they need their phones”. I’m sure you’re a joy to deal with when it comes to a teacher dealing with you at parent teacher conference.

My electronics: a calculator and a Walkman. I’ll argue your point of why they are even allowed to be BROUGHT to school to begin with. NOT one single time in all my years was a cell phone needed.

Cell phones have become much more distracting than they were two decades ago when I was in high school. The odds of an emergency happening where students must contact their parents immediately are very low anyway.

@@nxvx9208Lots of kids didn’t have phones on 9/11. That was an emergency, and once cell phones started working again after initially failing, kids were already leaving school while parents were trying to get home. It was not great. 2,000 kids can’t use the landline in the office, especially when the landlines are down…due to whatever the emergency may be

@@kareemdeen4336 that’s all they have to do but they won’t because they’re immature. We can’t have teacher wasting time checking after kids who don’t put it away. Also, ChatGPT could be a real issue with test taking.

Ummm, maybe work on the crime rate first, since a 13 year old was raped on her way home from school last week. This year, there was a lockdown at my kids’ NYC school due to a psycho jumping the fence and running around kids in the playground. What if he had accessed the building. Cell phone would be useful then. I’m sorry some teachers at some schools apparently have no control over their students, but that is a broader issue. The city and state government barely if ever is keeping our children safe, so kids need to depend on themselves when parents are still at work. Not everyone can afford a nanny to pick up their teenagers for Pete’s sake

Worried they won’t be able to contact each other during emergencies? How stupid people have become? Cell phones didn’t always exist people. There was a time when there wasn’t any such thing as cell phones, and life went on just fine. Including schools. People today really need to get a clue
