It’s cool in that it’s different. For me, in a cruiser at least, I just can’t get over the fact that it’s not a V. That immediately crossed it off my list. Ik it’s dumb but I like the sound of a v twin, and sound is a lot of the experience for me. Dad had a 650 Suzuki single cyl (S40/Savage) and stepped up to an S50 805 vtwin and it’s night and day (in sound and in speed. It’d probably beat my 950 in a race due to short gears and low weight). The parallel twin is only better than the single cyl in my opinion, but a vtwin beats both. And yeah I’ve ridden a gs500 and it was great but I love my vtwins. Even a 3 or 4cyl seem to have more unique tones than the parallel twin. Idk parallel twins just sound so…generic?

@@ridewithme3428 It's the 180 degree crank that ruins the Kaw 650 p-twin, it makes in sound and feel lawnmower'y. A 270 degree crank P-twin sounds more like a 90 degree v-twin (Take Triumph's engines in the different iterations of Bonneville for example) And sure @Jimmyjackass, it's a very good engine in a reliability and gas mileage standpoint, it's as Toyota as it gets, but even as a Toyota driver I wasn't 100% sure I wanted to be a biker as I started on a Versys 650. Easily rideable all day long, but it didn't give me a good feeling. Ended up selling it 11 months in after first buying an old CX500 (MAN are they smooth!) to cruise with, and now a Triumph Street Triple as my main bike.

I decided I like a single pin crank sound as it seems to have more soul than a two-pin crank. I haven’t figured out why the Suzuki S50 805 sounds so much less beefy than my Vstar 650 though. Must be the angle of the cylinders? Granted the exhaust is stock on the S50 but even in videos on KZread it doesn’t sound all that deep

The 600 / 650 are are strong choice as the "first big bike" in the UK/EU as they are can comply with A2 regulations, really fun to ride and dirt cheap to pick up. Even whilst restricted, they're a lot of fun - speaking from experience. Would love to finally see a video on them!

Right? I’m almost never below the speed limit. I bought a VS because it’s a nimble cruiser that’s cheap and punches way above its weight. The Bolt R 950 feels slow by comparison. The only downsides with the VS for me are it doesn’t make cruiser noises, limited aftermarket, and I want more power. Edit- I wanted a cruiser with a “sport bike” motor 2 decades ago when they didn’t really exist. I also like the RC51 because it’s a V Twin in a sport bike. Frankly, if I want a “cruiser” with sound, I have a big block and a LS.

I already got insurance quotes for over a dozen different motorcycles, including years like there is a huge price drop at 20 year old bikes even compared to 19 years old for insurance costs. Then add a row for fuel costs, row for tire costs, row for average service interval costs. Then each would be graphed out and charted in an array of "fun factors" both with real world testing and performance parameters (power to weight MUST include weight of rider with gear, so that's a separate box), each would also show max cruising range with max/min estimates based on driving style and road conditions. I'm an engineer, so this is typically the same process when designing quadcopters for myself (or UAVs in my profession), everything is detailed oriented to the point even a $100 toy for myself is optimized to great lengths, but everything is precisely how I want it.

The Ninja 650 and Z650 do attract a sizeable share of new riders too, Ninja 650 does make a decent beginner sportbike if you want the fully faired look. The Versys is a 270 degree crank and a little more power away from being a legit baby multistrada, it's the appliance engine that is what truly makes it "aggressively beige" haha.

  • @Richaag

The Versys 650 uses the same 180 crank motor that’s in the Z650, Ninja 650, and Vulcan S. I can ride 8 hours strait on twisties and highway no problem, take around town for a commute, and even throw the wife on the back for a nice ride. Reliable, comfy, and plenty of power. I have to disagree with you on your #1 pick. I rode a Ninja 650 on a Kawasaki Demo day and I thought it would make the perfect beginner bike. I've never gotten on any motorcycle for the first time that felt as familiar to me as the Ninja 650. It seemed like I'd been riding it 10,000 miles. The clutch pull and engagement, the throttle response, the handling, the brakes - I adjusted to everything immediately. Plenty of power for highway riding and room to grow for a beginner. It even has a bit of a "cool" factor (for those who aren't in the know). Plus, the price is right and I suspect the bike is quite reliable. BTW, my favorite bike of all time (overall) wasn't even a bike I bought for myself! It was a Honda Hawk 650GT that I recommended as a beginner bike for my girlfriend at the time (1990). I wound up putting more miles on that bike that she did. That bike seemed like an extension of my brain. I could push that bike harder into corners than any bike I've ever owned. That bike could also stop on a dime, it seemed. Not much power, but for street riding and the twisties (the vast majority of my riding), it was sublime.

🤣😂🤣 The Niken looks like the love child of a quad and a Motorcycle! The BMW looks like spider eyes for a front! The Honda looks like a moto version of the polaris slingshot.

Awesome review. Some folks mere existence is defined by the motorcycle they ride or the vehicle they drive. That's what makes America great, you have a choice pick what fits you best. Whether you ride a scooter or a jet bike, go enjoy the fast lane, slow lane, back roads or dirt roads. If you like to go fast go to the race track where you won't risk the lives of our fellow citizens. If you like to go slow ride in the slow lane, thats what it for. Resist the twist or not, its your choice. Again great review!

LOL I own an NC700X. It's awesome. It's slow, but it's my budget ADV. I put taller 50/50 tires on it and now I take it on ATV trails all the time.

ill be the dork but i love my versys 650. like yammy always says about these bikes, every one of us did our research on it and have yet to be disappointed. Best bang for the buck and in the end, hard not to have a good time on the bike or any bike for that matter. Still convinced, yammy has a crush on them but doesnt want to admit it lol

I ride a Vulcan S every day. It’s my daily ride. It has the ninja 650 in line twin and so far in London I haven’t come across a single bike that can beat it away from the lights. The S stands for sport and this is a serious sports cruiser.

As a rider of 20+ years, and a professional stand up comic, let me just say this is the BEST MOTORCYCLE VIDEO OF ALL TIME! (Sorry Taylor) Funny AF and accurate. Coulda used a Grom mention though.

Thanks, Yams, for another countdown video. I'm surprised I didn't see the Honda Fury.

The Honda NM4 looks EXACTLY like a never version of the rare Honda DN-01 that was seldom seen here used the same engine and DCT system

I just got my very first bike, (Harley Davidson 883 Hugger) I got it super cheap in mint condition and to be honest I just thought it fit my style and looked cool to me as well as fit my needs for just driving around town and whatnot. That’s all that matters to me, I want to have fun and fun I shall have. Great video as always ❤

My "beginner" bike was a brand new 1983 Honda Interceptor 750, the Honda just seemed a little too dependable so two years later a Ducati F1A - yes I was (am?) an idiot who was lucky to survive and it was wonderful. I'm glad when people make smarter decisions than I (it isn't very hard) just remember to have fun too.

The street 500 was what we used in class. Cute little thing. The bikes we're actually spotless on the outside due to the highway bars and pegs sticking out like a porcupine.

Thank you Lord Rossi for bringing the beautiful sounds of the Yamster back to the Yammy Noob videos. I guess if I have to put up with hearing that schmuck named Spit in the commercials I can deal with it. I have resubscribed. Long live Spammy Tube!

Hey, I just got a dual sport. “Scientifically” chosen, of course, meeting all the desired metrics, after much study and contemplation!
