@@realBlueMoonMusic Yes, but we must remember that Tolkien also believed us all to be pilgrims who have not yet reached our finally destination. Home, like gold, grips people and becomes an attachment that holds them back. In the Hobbit, Bilbo struggles to leave the comfort and niceties of his home. He won't help others if it means risking the comfort and familiarity of the Shire. He had to risk losing that in order to become a better person and ultimately, as Tolkien tries to convey, prepare us to move on to our eternal homes (for earthly attachments are often a blockade to that if we are not careful).

Its how I see the whole concept of the H-trilogy :) Its not only about fighting dragon, its the strife between "the home part" - the Bilbo's part and "the cursed gold part" the Thorin's part. Its about one of the ultimate topic's of Tolkien's literary world - "the dragon sickness" the greed for gold for fortune. Every nation or race in Tolkien's world has it own weekness - greed is for dwarves, pride and alienation for elves and humans "above all else desire power" as Galadriel told us. It needs for a halfling to connects all the free peoples in fight for higher good, in community, in unity, becouse a halfling has no much of these flaws, and also in his innocence he can see good in all persons from all tribes.

I love how Thorin character develops so much when Bilbo is around over the course of the 3 films. When we first meet him Thorin is jagged and cynical. When they get to Erabor, he's consumed by desire for the Arken stone but Bilbo's value of home keeps Thorin's darkness at bay to the point he trusts him over the other dwarves, At the end, for all his warrior traits, he admits to Bilbo how much of an influence he had on him. And how much Bilbo changed him.

I don't understand why there are people that dislike this movie for what it is... It's not supposed to be another Lord of the Rings, and I get that there has to be some things added to the story since there wasn't nearly enough material for The Hobbit as there was for LOTR... But in the end it's just another wonderful story about friendship and courage that shows us that all the riches of the world can't possibly be as vulnerable as the people you love.

I have to day, The Lotr series was more epic, (it's my favorite series) but the Hobbit trilogy was sadder. Just my opinion... . . Edit: okay, coming back I think theyre both pretty devastating. Lord has Gandalf, Boromir, Haldir, etc but the ending is what makes me cry the hardest. The Hobbit doesnt really get sad until the 3rd movie where they kill the most popular dwarves.

Underrated as hell. People shitting on hobbit because it’s different from the books, or different from the lord of the rings is small ways, they’re fake ass lord of the rings fans. I grew up on the lord of the rings movies. It was my childhood and I have serious nostalgia for it. And yet I STILL almost like the hobbit movies better. They were amazing. Azog and bolg were such bad dads villains, as well as Smaug and sauron, and the action was amazing. I loved seeing dwarves and how they fought other than just gimli. And it’s even more emotional at times than the lord of the rings. Amazing quotes and beautiful call backs to the lord of the rings, using music, or similar styles and tones. And the Sméagol riddles in the dark scene was incredible. And epic scenes like thorins final battle charge in five armies with the dwarves rallying, or beautiful monologue scenes with Gandalf and Galadriel when she asks him why he chose a hobbit

I felt like LOTR is a much better trilogy because it's really an epic involving politics and saving the world. But The Hobbit trilogy is closer to my heart because it's more of a personal adventure story and the sad moments really made me cry because they were on a smaller, personal level.

Bilbo is such an amazing character. No wonder Thorin grow very fond of him, to the point he trust Bilbo more than his own kin by the end of the trilogy. Bilbo has absolutely no reason and no power to lend to Thorin in his quest, and yet he gave himself in entirely to the mission, meanwhile powerful allies turned their back when the dwarves needed them, and they had actually something to gain from that if succeeded. Bilbo without a real reason to fight for the dwarves homeland and being considered a weakling (for being a hobbit) proved to be more reliable than men, elves and dwarves to the company.

People telling me there are no moving scenes in The Hobbit like there was in LOTR me: 1. Gandalf telling Bilbo what true courage is when giving him Sting in An Unexpected Journey. 2. Gandalf explaining to Galadriel "why Bilbo" in An Unexpected Journey. 3. The scene where Bilbo tries to escapes and Bofur catches him in An Unexpected Journey. 4. Bilbo telling the Dwarves why he came back in An Unexpected Journey. 5. Thorin apologizing and hugging Bilbo at the end of An Unexpected Journey. 6. Balin telling Bilbo "it never ceases to amaze me, the courage of Hobbits" in The Desolation of Smaug. 7. The acorn scene in The Battle of the Five Armies. 8. Bofur saying goodbye to Bilbo as he escapes in the night in The Battle of the Five Armies(extended). 9. Thorin getting rid of his dragon sickness and asking the Dwarves "Will you follow me, one last time" in The Battle of the Five Armies. 10. Thorin's last words to Bilbo and Bilbo crying for the first time in the movies in The Battle of the Five Armies. 11. Bilbo saying goodbye to all the remaining Dwarves in the Battle of the Five Armies. 12. Bilbo's last scene in The Battle of the five armies where Gandalf knocks on his door tying the two movies together in The Battle of the Five Armies.
