Wikipedia gives 24 million "students", so the metric probably doesn't include all the duolingo learners. Still, I have a hard time believing it's less studied than Italian (which sidenote wp gives as only 3.1 million "L2" but that could be a different metric).

Thanks to learning Spanish I can now embark on learning Italian and French with ease. With English and Spanish, I can already understand basic spoken French. Who knew?

@@user-rw7mf4oo1h porque? O latim é o importante para todos falantes de Latim, e tambem para todos que possuem seu analfabeto. Nos dois casos tanto o italiano como o romeno também seriam importantes para aprender o Latim através deles...

in the case of Brazil it counts, so it surpasses the French, and arrives in second position after the English.

The data must be based on easily accessible countries for poling like UK, Frace, America, etc. So it must be about what is studied amd in what number in these places mainly. Otherwise I would expect to see Arabic and Hindi somewhere.

30 million is too low for 1st most spoken language in the world if anyone sucsess to learn chinese that provides massive privilages in life ..

This is due to cultural (Netflix, Hollywood, etc.) And economical (business, technology, etc.) But will soon change because UK and US are no longer the economic powerhouse it once was.

Thank god more people are learning French around the world. Spanish language is the ugliest. I mean I don’t hate the people or the cultures or the cuisine, I just hate the Spanish language

ho my godness!! German sounds horrible. Never in my entire life i'll learn german it's strange to see that spanish (which is one of the most spoken language in the world) isn't the most studied language

THE LANGUAGES THAT I LOVE BESIDES MY NATIVE MEXICAN SPANISH LANGUAGE ARE ENGLISH GERMAN FRENCH ITALIAN POTUGUESE AND NORDIC LANGUAGES. SWEDISH NORWEGIAN DANISH DUTCH IRISH AND EVEN FINNISH AND RUSSIAN.. I DON'T LIKE ASIAN LANGUAGES LIKE CHINESE JAPANESE KOREAN VIETNAMESE ETC.. I AM NOT AGAINST THEM BUT SIMPLY I DON'T LIKE THEM . NOT MY TASTE.
