The Charging Chuck thing isn't "developer laziness." It works for the same reason the credits warp works; the game going to unintended parts of memory. Usually, when consuming an item, the game reads from an area of memory that corresponds to that item. The Charging Chuck, of course, was never meant to be eaten, so instead of going to a table of things that correspond to the items you eat, it goes to a completely different part of memory instead. This happens to be the part of the ROM that executes instructions based on whatever was in a particular part of the RAM at the time. This part of RAM corresponds to things you can interact with in the level, so by changing a few things in the level around, such as enemy positions, you can essentially write the code that warps you to the end credits. The fact that all of this is possible is nothing short of a miracle. if Charging Chuck weren't in that level, or if it corresponded to a part of memory that just crashed the game instead of magically being part of the ROM that interprets part of the RAM as instructions, or if the part of RAM that was executed as code couldn't easily be manipulated, none of this would have happened. It's basically like the planets aligning, similar to how everything lines up perfectly in Ocarina of Time, allowing players to warp to Ganon's Tower and beat the game in under 20 minutes. Both of these things are simply miraculous.

Very nice tas, frogburt found you could warp to the final boss with the superhero flying ability only skipping 3 remotes, and I discovered TV cancelling which will suck you into the closest tv that is spawned. If there is no TV the game will put you in an infinite load for level 0 which there is none, thus giving you scrooge TV in the loading as level 1, but no proper destination. Props for putting everything together. Reece, andypanther, frogburt and myself put a lot of work into this game and it is nice to finally see it all put together. Thank you for figuring the game out once and for all. I know you probably wont see this due to the thousands of comments you receive, but thank you.

With the credits warp, I believe the idea behind the reason the game treats the charging chuck as a powerup is that instead of saying "if the item is a mushroom, execute code A, if the item is a fire flower, execute code B, etc" it says "execute the code with the number associated with the item" and it just jumps to some location much further than the actual code provided because the chuck is much higher id than the highest powerup. Not sure if that's the reason but that's my guess. All items could be treated as a powerup and would just jump to random unused code locations.

There are a couple of small mistakes in the description of the Super Metroid techniques. For a damage boost, you not only need to press backward, you also have to press jump. You can see Samus do a backflip if you did it right. Damage boosts move her much faster than she normally can, so they are worth doing even when there is no way to use the invincibility frames. And when you describe the mockball, you make jumping through a door part of the trick, but that is not usually the case; there's just a door in the way in the place you showed. In general, all you have to do is morph while landing and then press forward again. This also seems to be an intended technique. Usually when you land on the ground in a ball, you bounce, but if you morph at just the right time as you land, you don't, and that's what allows you to keep your speed. Finally, the shinespark you described is not a secret. A friendly alien in the game called a dachora teaches you how to do this.

I think destiny 2s scourge of the past raid is a really good example of a well optimized speed run. Its hard to say, because its an online only game, and the speed run is with 6 people. Also the game is always evolving so you will use different dps strats at different times, but the core run is very very optimized. And also just a really really cool and interesting run.

3:10 It's kinda true except for the last level where the time stops with touching the axe, so you'll arive at the same framerule but still can get a single frame faster

Holy crap, that Gex 3 TAS is insane! And I think it could be possible to replicate it on a live run, since the wrong warp glitch is already something that you can do.
