A lot of those are made with square and sawtooth waves, which are super easy to do with a tesla coil, hence the reason they sound so good.

Mega Man 2 was made as an "indie project" in the developers spare time. Capcom was not initially interested in a sequel, but the developers felt they could do better than the original Mega Man. So they had to work on it in their off hours. It was a true labour of love. And even 34 years later, it shows.

What really adds to this is that he keeps the bass lines in tact. A lot of cover artists and remixers don't do that, which can hurt the song overall.

@@te0nani SO using a PC speaker would be a logical regression from using an MT-32 or a soundblaster, right? Aside from something like an ad-lib, not many soundcards are more primitive than the good old PC speaker.

I was today years old when I found out that, despite never playing a a mega man game, I have been listening to parts of the soundtracks for at least a decade. This is extremely niche, but I knew the last song only as "Okkusenman", a Japanese fansong that was written around the tune. When I heard green hill zone, it sounded SO amazing, I didn't think anything could beat it. "How can you get better than that?!?! No way. That was so amazing." and the second the song started I screamed and almost fell off my bed. It's been YEARS since I've heard that song, and I'm so glad to find it today!!! I'm 28 and this is how I found a song from my high school days, thanks man

Hearing Mega Man still gives me goose bumps. I remember renting Mega Man 2 on Friday night, and playing till Sunday morning when the game had to be returned. Damn was it satisfying after all those hours to finally beat Dr. wiley.

my favorite thing about musical coils is what they're called. They have two names. The Zeusaphone and the Thoramin. I like Thoramin more cause it's also a nod to the Theremin, one of, if not _the,_ first electric musical instruments.
