Top 6 Times Isai Actually Tried in Melee Singles

Ойындар

Now, he will try.
These are some of the rare moments Isai actually tries to win and goes full Super Saiyan, destroying his opponent in the process.
Isai, the inventor of the term Don't get hit, was an absolutely amazing and unique player that was extremely far ahead of his time, his Falcon was light years ahead any other Falcon in the game at the time. Unfortunately he rarely tried in Singles causing not many matches of him playing at his full potential to exist. Here, I've compiled matches of him playing at his max potential showcasing just how insane he was. Unfortunately, Isai has quit Melee so these may be the last we see of Isai going full Super Saiyan :(

    The Golden Age of Smash, the founders and creators of what the game is today. Ken might have been the King, but only because Isai decided that he didn't want the crown, ... he did want that cape though

  • @jesusantispray

    I feel like Isai didn't actually get much enjoyment from winning because he was just such an insanely natural god at this game; perhaps for even deeper personal reasons as well. He knew other people enjoyed winning so he'd let them win cause he didn't want them feeling bad with him absolutely dominating and so instead tried to give them the rush of the win even though they deep down knew he was sandbagging.

    Gavin Rae I don't believe it. Not trying is one person's way of saying he is afraid of actual failure. If he "never tried," I doubt he ever thought he was good enough.

  • @japaroads

    @japaroads

    7 жыл бұрын

    Nah. Gavin's closer to the mark then you are, man. Isaiah's match against Ken proves that he's capable of putting it all on the line against impossible odds. He came back to do a reverse 3-0 against Ken, the best player in the world at the time. Match 4, in particular, has him coming back against a huge stock deficit. He wasn't afraid. Not at all.

  • @jesusantispray

    @jesusantispray

    7 жыл бұрын

    Clinton Chelak have you watched the smash documentary man? most of the clips are just copied and pasted from it tbh though GRmash did put in some custom edits as well but what I'm trying to say is you don't seem that familiar with who Isai is.. Sure you may be kind of right in the fact that not trying makes you a failure but it isn't always that simple.. Isai was a very quiet and in some cases depressed individual so he may have been second guessing himself... but the matter of the fact is that Isai was indisputably the best player in the world back then when he actually tried, he just didn't have that drive to win unless he was in 2v2's because then he was fighting for a friend and not just himself. Literally every single one of the players that helped form the smash community as it is today testifies that Isai was unbeatable when he actually tired. We wouldn't have competitive smash like we do today if it weren't for him because of all the times he carried Ken or helped Ken practice to get as good as he was.

  • @Ridghost

    @Ridghost

    Also it's very obvious when someone is sandbagging compared to someone who is trying but sucking and making excuses. All these pro-players believe he was sandbagging, when they are in a culture where many pro's do make excuses and "john" a hell of a lot. That's because they know, when someone attempts to waveshine, but fucks up, they were trying. When someone basically suicides every stock, without even caring, that's sandbagging. On top of the fact that it's proven that this guy can go beast mode during a finals, shows that he isn't a choker and he is capable of getting into the "zone" whenever he needs to. The guy is naturally god like at Melee, but he is not a competitor at heart, he is just a gamer. It's no disrespect, but Isai had no competitive spirit for Melee. He does now for 64, but he certainly didn't for Melee.

    Viceroy ken is the king of smash, maybe a god at the time in comparison but ken definitely is still trying 100% right now and can't keep up with the actual gods. So I wouldn't call ken an elder god rather than just his current title as the king. Isai in my opinion though is THE Smash Brother, which in my opinion is of a higher tier then that of even a god

So dont say spectators always win in fact the real percentage and studies for events of all kinds show its the opposite that they lose that more are unsatisfied.

    The Isai segment of the SMASH documentary always gives me chills. The music, Isai's speaking parts and all the other Pro's talking about him, especially Wife talking about how he suspects that Isai has always had a certain amount of pain. It show a certain human aspect to it all SMASH is a video game; it was played by people who were, at the time, seeking an escape from life Video games may have established a place in this materialist world today but they were always an escape from realty And i feel that most of the people who play video games can connect with Isai much more than they can Mango or M2K or Armada or any other pro player sheerly because he played for the love of the game Not because he wanted to be the best Not because he had a point to prove But because he enjoyed playing the game, both against people of his own skill level and people who sucked dick at a videogame

    A year later so this is probably buried, but i need this off my chest. All the people denying the potential of Isai were he to be playing today are basing it off this gameplay exclusively without thinking of time. Were he to consistently actually try and practice as much as the other pros, considering his gameplay over 5 years ago looks like todays meta movement, imagine how much he'd evolve his own playstyle to today. He'd absolutely be a god. After all, like they said, that final match with Ken is what sparked the melee scene to explode into what it is today. Without him Melee would never have gotten as much recognition as today nor would tech have evolved this quickly.

    I always wondered why they glossed over the fact he is still considered one of the best 64 players ever. His dominance was way longer than kens in that game. Only Post 2010 did he start losing finals and such. To this day he could walk into a 64 tourney and win the whole thing. No one would be surprised that he won, only that he even showed up lol.

I have so much respect for Isai both as a person and as a player. He doesn't play to win, he plays to have fun. If he wins, that's a bonus. If winning means making other people happy, then he'll make it happen.

    I believe the reason of why Isai is just so good is NOT that he's just naturally good at Melee like everyone says. I believe it's all because 64 mechanics, like the long ass hitstone, bad recoveries, Z-cacelling, and when playing Melee all those dificulties are gone, and I believe that's also a reason of why Wizzrobe' SDI is just unreal

  • @playstationarusu

    @playstationarusu

    I don't think it's a matter of the "difficulties" of 64 being absent, I mean Z cancelling is more lenient and rewarding than L cancelling. The games are just really similar, and experience in one will show in the other.

    It’s funny to me how the cynical meme “if only Isai tried” has become so prevalent that people are oblivious and think Isai was just overhyped. The truth is he just didn’t enjoy the game anymore and stopped caring. He was a monster when he did want to win and was truly ahead of his time. His movement was ridiculous and even most modern players aren’t this technical. I hope one day Isai gets on unranked and schools some people. They need to remember his name.

    It's funny to see people saying things like "The new meta wouldn't fit Isai old playstyle" while he was the first to ever do shield dropping and wave landing in 2004 which the current meta uses. One more thing, he has a Shiek!!!!

Its good that you honnered him with a videos montage such as this. thank you. I also want to thank you for listing the name of the songs you used for this vid

    ...I'd just love to see a prime Isai that TRIES vs the 5 gods today and how he'd fair against them. All with Captain Falcon. So basically Cap vs Jiggs, Fox, Falco, Peach and Marth. Shit would be fire.

    Isai’s movement even in todays scene is so crisp. Like man he’s really good. I miss a lot of the older players. Isai was always one of my faves. Being about 13-14 watching the documentary I really enjoyed learning about him. I remember doing a pretty good drawing in miiverse of him wish I kept it or had a picture of it.
