Your video helps me to find a different way, probably 7th and simplest way. I went to hardware store to buy the stuff needed in you video. But I could not find the 5 inch bolt for this. Then I realized I could just use cable/zip tie to tie the plate holder. So I bought a pack of 13" cable ties. I used three cable ties to tie the holder with the grids. I drilled 6 holes on the plate holder, 2 holes for one cable tie. It works very well. And it costs less than $1. 😀

Super! Thanks for the idea. I adapted it very successfully and it was better than something I could buy for my Y. I added a guide to fit counter the curve on the bottom and flush fit to the bumper - a touch higher). Flush sturdy and looks better than original adhesive way higher (and still clears 12")

This was a great solution. I was able to adapt it with what’s called a toggle bolt and wing nut that cost $5 from the local hardware store. I could not hand tighten the bolt - needed a socket wrench. I also added some rubber padding behind the entire top and bottom edge of the plate holder for some cushion

Good way to do it, thanks. Looks like it will be a little too low for Colorado requirement of at least 12 inches from ground to bottom of holder but California may be different and I'd bet no CHP will notice or care about the exact measurement. CDOT may check it out in a parking lot if they're looking to write some tickets but in my town, they don't get that picky what with other higher priorities to manage.

Great idea! Perhaps an upgrade with a few washers to hold the frame with the bolt more firmly reducing risk that the bolt (if over tightened or damaged) will pull through and risk damaging your front end (bumper/grill) or worse fly off and become a hazard. Still like your idea.

I'm like you, pulled that 3M when I took delivery. Did a road trip. Want to catch bugs with those non existing grills?

There’s a channel that shows various systems of the Teslas taken apart with great in depth explanations of their function. It is amazing how well engineered each component is and how their designs have been modified multiple times based on actual driving data to achieve optimal operation. That being said, I think mounting your plate in front of the grill may have a significant effect on the airflow which many systems have been precisely engineered to rely upon.

Thank you! Those are the stock 19" Sport Wheels from 2019. I used Hyperdip to black them out. Originally it was only supposed to be temporary, but they are lasting much longer than expected.

hi, a little late here but i have a front grill bug protector screen.. do u have a solution for that? should i just drill holes on the bug protector too?

Just get a tow hook mount for like 20 bucks. Looks sick and easy to install. Ez peezy.

The issue with this installation is that if the bolt ever get loose up, the bracket will fall apart. It's better to have a hook of some sort so that the toggle nut will not turn when it's loose.

It's been fine every time I use it. If it's on tight, it should be good.

Likely will damage your air vent over time or bend it permanently.

where do you find the adhesive plate? I did not see one

Using the method I did with the screws, they need to use the grill to hold on. The other solutions, like QuickBandit does sit a little higher.

Just commented I did and it worked like a charm, a attached guide piece to counter the curve at base of plastic and it fit like a glove. also added a small wedge pieces to reduce angle the plastic has gets covered behind the plate and bolts went lower on the grille. Very sturdy.

Works well, I only use it when going into major cities. Easy to install and remove later.

The easiest n cheapest way is to use zip ties. No need to buy other stuffs.

Can you imagine if you pulled over a parking stop and then panickied and backed up???!!!

I wash my own cars, so I won’t be testing that. Holds up to highway speeds.

all we have to do is make a law that allows you to have no front plate and/or allowed you to have front tinted windows.

"We don't condone breaking the law." Goes ahead and talks about how he almost always breaks the law.

@@JZcat Sometimes identification is necessary from the front of the vehicle, e.g. for law enforcement or emergencies. My personal take is Tesla knows there are states that require front plates and they should have something available other than a flimsy thing that sticks to the paint. It’s not like they can’t afford it. t. Tesla M3 owner.

I really hate when government forces us to ruin the car and the aerodynamics with stupid front licence plate. Rear has to be enough.

Looks awful! Why is Tesla forcing us to do such a thing at all?
