You know what's strange, I played through it without really any problems. I had to move the Kinect to my massive living room (we have a full sized arcade in it now) in order to play it right. I honestly did not experience any real problems with it once I koved it to a large room with a very big TV (75 inch HD screen). Consequently, I have since replaced...well all of my HD screens with 4K UHD's. Maybe I will try to play Steel Battalion again.

There exists three versions of it. In the first, the whole game crashes if you pick the stage "Nightride". The second is the one described here, in the third and most recent the opponent moves but stops before the finish line. It's basically just unfinished crap put in stores.

When I was a child I had bought two copies of Superman 64 one for me and one for my friends birthday I was invited to. Everyone got excited when they saw what I had bought him and we were very quick to drop everything and couldn't wait to play it. I don't remember if we hated it or not I just remember being incredibly frustrated with the controls and flying too damn fast to keep up with the rings, if you even missed one the entire run was fucked and your time was thrown off. We grew tired of it quickly because of the difficulty and never played it again. Never really considered it to be a BAD game just extremely hard? Idk its probably bad

You know how if you open your video game, it's non-returnable.. you can thank the game ET from Atari for one. there was no such policy back then, and everybody returned that game, then the retailer's returned it back to Atari, which doomed the company.. That big rig game ain't got nothing on ET

No, Atari was crashing the Auguest before ET was released. There are games worse than it, like Firefly. ET was one of the better games of the crash era.

Same with fnaf. The Lore and story behind that series is beyond belief, and amazingly well done. Fnaf is an absolute work of art, considering it changed horror games, and has the best mystery of any game out there. But sadly, it too was killed by 8 year olds

Itai Sprachman sure, it's a bad game and no one would really deny that. but, it's not the worst, either, and given the idea that one guy was tasked to make the game in a crazy short amount of time (i think it was like six weeks), you couldn't have asked for more. if it didn't have 'e.t.' on the cover, it would have been forgotten as just another sub-par atari cart. because it says 'e.t.' on it, though, it's the worst game ever, which is an unfair distinction given the circumstances behind the game and the fact that it's not the worst game (it does suck, but there are worse out there). :) imo, any top ten list (or five in this case) that includes this game as the worst without qualifying it isn't run by legit gamers. you would find 'e.t.' on a list run by some site like watchmojo, who i would hardly take seriously, lol.

Itai Sprachman i live but to serve. :) there's actually a great documentary on the subject based on the urban legend that millions of unsold cartridges were buried in a landfil, so some guy goes to excavate them. there's a detailed history of the industry, atari and people involved. i won't spoil it for you, though. :) the angry videogame nerd even did a comedy movie about it, though i haven't seen it. 'e.t.' is erroneously blamed for killing the videogame industry, which is patently ridiculous. the history of the industry and of this game is pretty interesting, i think. :)

***** it would have crashed anyway with or without 'e.t.''s help. to say it was one of the sole reasons it crashed is more than debatable. :) you can say that 'e.t.' was the last straw, and i'd imagine most folk would buy that. but, i would argue that atari's 'pac-man' was a bigger culprit of the crash than 'e.t.' indeed, atari's mismanagement went a long way in it all falling apart, but circumstances outside atari's control have to be acknowledged (e.g., computer systems becoming affordable, a glut of game consoles, etc.). too, when it began legal for third parties to make games for the 2600, a barrage of terrible games hit the shelves. if you want to blame games, blame a hundred others as a collective 'fuck you' to us 2600 fans, not just 'e.t.' (which still sucked). 'e.t.' was the reason for the videogame crash of '83? no way, lol. but, that's how we often perceive it, and it's been a scapegoat for almost 25 years. it's time to put that myth to rest, eh? :)

ET for the Atari was my favorite game and still is today, the graphics and controls and amazing. Everyone I know loves and has great memories of this game. I really suggest this game for people of all ages. The story is great, I just don't get it didn't get game of the year yet. This game is even better than Superman 64 and that game was amazing, the gameplay of Atari ET just beats it by a little bit. Big Rigs is another game I really like but still gets beaten by Atari ET because of the Virtual Reality capabilities it has. I give Atari ET 11/10
