A few factual corrections: 1) Mendenhall Glacier is NOT a park, it is part of the Tongass National Forest; 2) There is no fish hatchery there. Salmon spawning are natural runs. 3) You cannot walk to the glacier from the visitor center area and a walk to the glacier elsewhere is not a casual undertaking.

Hello- Thank you for your great information. We plan to take the whale watching excursion on the larger of the 2 boats you described (2 decks). My husband is using a wheelchair to avoid having to walk too far (he has Parkinson’s) would you say the boat could accommodate a wheelchair if we fold it up once on board? Thank you.

Hi. On the larger whale watching boats there is lots of room for store a folding wheel chair. What I don't recall is how easy it is for a wheel chair to board. There may be a couple of steps, but I am not certain. When we did the big boat it was a Mendenhall glacier and whale watching shore excursion through Princess. At Icy Strait Point, the cruise line shore excursion whale watching picked up right on the dock next to the cruise ship so that looked very easy. I hope this helps and thank you for watching!

Yes, thank you. This is very helpful. We plan to do the whale watching/Mendenhall Glacier excursion through Royal Caribbean. My husband can certainly get out of the chair and walk on step onto the boat. I appreciate your response.

Hi. Thank you for your comment. We were at Icy Strait Point today and did whale watching with Glacier Wind Charters. We chose them because they have a small boat with only about 12 to 14 people and family owned. We had a terrific time. We saw humpbacks bubble feed and two pods of orcas. It is a very good place for whale watching, and you can’t go wrong with whatever you select. Thank you for watching!
