For all of my fellow beginners out there - if you come across the bad "I don't feel like playing today" thing, I have an advice for you. Just force yourself to pick up a guitar. That's it :D That did it for me multiple times, I felt tired and really not into it, but the very SECOND I picked up my wooden love, I just couldn't put it back without at least few minutes of practicing. It boosts me with so many nice feelings and so much energy, it's unbelievable. We can do it, I believe in us. :-)

8:56 He is right, many people quit at playing guitar only because they're not patient or because they find excuses of their fingers. The example of the man playing the guitar without arms is a perfect proof that anyone could learn how to play the guitar, the same goes with anything else, it's not only about playing the guitar.

Once you realize people that aren't even experts talk a lot of BS you are going places. Had to learn that the hard way myself as I am very social. My lesson was that experts are usually the positive and inspiring ones that have walked the walk and know what it means. The naysayers tend to be the ones that want you to have their limited mindset because they don't want to be alone with it.

Folks want the easy road to success. That's not why I'm here. I'm here to give you truth and show you a way to make a success of yourself. Hendrix would not have to practice, if talent carried him. Believe that talent gets you where you want to go and you will never get there. Practice the right stuff, and you WILL get there. Read " The Outliers" for a great overview and FULL explanation of this.

+Professor Bagel Sure I have heard the term, but name one deemed a "prodigy" that had mediocre practice habits. Hendrix, Van Halen, Michael Jordan only became great when they said, THIS is what I will do with my life and I will be better than all the rest and then practiced more than their talk of being great.

This is a great video, excellent advice. I only offer this as someone who is no more than, at best, an advanced beginner or maybe early intermediate. Relax. Enjoy it. And by that I mean, relax into the basic things described in the video and don't judge yourself. The less worried you are about doing it exactly, the more you'll find yourself leaning into the right way to do it. The guitar just seems to be made that way... the more you relax about, the more you become familiar with it. Like so much I've tried, it seems the less I try to control everything, the easier it all becomes.

Thank you for your tips. I've been holding it like a shovel, I don't tuck the guitar close to my body and i hold it the classical way. When I practiced bar chords, it makes the thumb muscle in my palm hurt (never even knew it existed before). Not only is my thumb twards the top but I'm putting a lot of strain on one finger just to keep everything in place, for a bar chord. I even got better at playing the bar chords in this bad position. Thanks for the correction.

I'm 20 years old and I cannot shake the thought that in too late, I see the best guitarist being passionate about it since they are like 14-16 years old and I'm stressed out about college work, I have depression and anxiety and it affects my learning. I'm mad at the fact that I couldn't start sooner, didn't have any resources and it sucks.

Thanks, very helpful! I've been practicing about a month now, thumb behind the neck and everything. I've practiced off and on for years and this is the longest I've stuck with it. My calluses are developing, it's quite gratifying. I just keep pushing through even though it still feels crazy unnatural and super challenging as though I'm never going to get this. I've just been determined. So hearing someone say that about how awkward the wrist and everything feels and will feel until it just doesn't anymore was the best advice for me right now. And actually why I clicked on the video, I was thinking it was just me.. Ha! ❤️ So yes! BIG THANKS, Thank you very much!!

I bought a guitar today and went straight to learning chords, the two things I know I've definitely not been helping myself with was wrapping my thumb around the top of the neck, I guess I started doing this as it felt more comfortable as mentioned in the video. The second mistake was the picking technique, I realise I was picking the string and going out with my pick, very handy tips to find out, the other things mentioned in the video was okay with (e.g. using your finger tips to press on the strings) it was just those two I didn't realise were a big no no! Very Helpful video, will remember these tips in the morning when I go for another practice!

I feel like left handed guitarists have an advantage on the so called 'right-handed guitar', the fretting hand has to have more dexterity and strength than the strumming hand. I'm sure the job of the right hand gets more complicated as you advance, but by then you're a musician and your non-dominant hand gains super powers 😁
