I read this right as I was looking past him at the trailers behind him 😂😂😂

This was a great category of RVs to compare and exactly the criteria that we had restricted ourselves to when searching for a new RV. Our storage situation necessitated that 30' limit, but that gives us the added benefit of fitting into campsites easier. We own a half-ton with a very good tow capacity, but we also have to watch our tongue weight. So models that use two slides to cut down on the length end up weighing too much and won't work for us. I used to avoid floorplans that have walk-through baths but have decided it's one of the best ways to save on length - as long as there is a 2nd door for the bedroom for slides-in overnights. Now we prefer that floorplan to get the windows at the rear of rig.

It’s great you understand payload like that!

Just a thought, when I think of keeping it under 30’ the reason would be to keep in the half-ton truck range. But then seeing hitch weights of 800, 900 and some a little over 1000lbs I feel we’ve gotten away from the purpose of keeping RVs in the sub 30’ category.

I respectfully disagree. I’m in the market for a sub 30’ for my Super Duty Diesel. I have no desire to tow 40’+ around the country. I’ve towed at or over max before and cannot recommend! I’ll stick well under the max from now on.

I would add the Cougar 25RDS to this list. It has some of the best window views for a trailer in this range and is very functional for a couples trailer.

Yes and the ability to have a guest sleep on that Mega Dinette while still having the theater seats. One addition I would like to see is a built-in seat in the shower as in the fifth wheel counterpart

Wow, all great rv's, tough to choose but I'd probably pick the Cougar. I really like the auto leveling and the available Solor packages.

I concur, Rockwood 2516s that's the best.

Josh totally appreciate the time you took to gather this top 5. ..you are helping us easily sort through the pros & cons.. we have been looking for our trailer for a while & having it less than 30ft, private bedroom and a sizable bathroom are difficult to find but you made it easy...thank you so much

A great list! But that 26’ Rockwood is insane. I just don’t understand how it can be the same overall length as our 22RBS Cougar. It’s has to be one of the absolute best there is on MANY lists.

Hey Josh, any rhyme or reason that the RV industry doesn't follow the same naming convention as Marine, for example 22 RBS would be 22' in a normal world.

I like rear bedrooms and front kitchens and camp kitchen and hide a bed for grand kids and slides on the opposite side of camp side. Road mode travel also. 25 feet.

Josh, you Rule! I will soon be a 1st time travel trailer owner and I truly appreciate your videos, especially this one. Your videos are interesting/informative, and are helping me with my upcoming decision. I am leaning towards the Rockwood Signature 8263MBR. Thank you (and Bish) for your service!

Your videos are very helpful. It took my wife and I over a year to decide on a travel trailer. After doing a lot of research and watching your videos, 2 years ago we purchased a 2020 Rockwood 2606ws which we think is the great couples trailer under 30 feet. Just what we wanted. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for your monthly updates. We really like learning more about the current situation of the RV world especially since we are looking to buy a travel trailer in the near future. We would love to see a top 5 list of couples travel trailers with nice outdoor kitchens that are under 30 feet and 1/2 ton towable. We find many floorplans we love but most couples campers do not have full outdoor kitchens. These seem to be found more often on bunkhouse campers Please give that list some thought. Would appreciate your input.

From the hip: Cougar 26RBS Freedom Express 252RBS Those both immediately popped into my head. There are more certainly. Maybe a Jay Feather 22RBS I should have videos of all of those for you!

My neighbor bought the 8263MBR.. and it's AMAZING! If we where staying in travel trailers, it'd absolutely make my short list. Thanks for another great list Josh!

Other companies have tried to copy that layout but Rockwood still did it best I think

Since they stopped making the Cougar 26rks I have to vote for the Rockwood 2516.

I wish Keystone still made the Loredo Travel Trailer! We should have never traded it! It had a bunk room and a large outdoor kitchen which my husband misses dearly! Never had an issue with anything on that camper!

My favorite is the Rookwood Signature 8262RBS. It’s like the 8263MBR except the RBS has a front bedroom and middle living room.

I’m still partial to the Rockwood 2304DS for it’s size and weight. Wished that they would continue to manufacture it with some improvements like maybe a foot or so larger and a separate awning for the opposing slide. Thanks for sharing.

Jayco 27 RB, w PrivateBedroom up front, AwesomeLayout w dinette & recliners in the slide. While you’re traveling If you need to stop during your trip, you have complete access to Kitchen & Bathroom w/o opening the slide.

Great model for certain! But at nearly 33ft total it just didn’t qualify for this round

I have the Rockwood 2608BS and have to say it works well as a couples RV. We also can take our young grandson for a trip or 2 as the table turns into a bed while having a dedicated bedroom with a door. I saw this one in the honorable mentions so glad to know it was considered. We toured and researched many prior to purchasing so this may not work well for others. It does have access to kitchen and fridge thru the front door and the bedroom thru the rear door for those quick overnite stops at Cracker Barrel or other places. Terri S.

Hi Teri. Do you extend the slides for your Cracker Barrel overnights? I was disappointed to learn, while our 2608 was on order, that Rockwood recommends not putting any weight on slides while in. This put a damper on rest area lunch breaks and quick overnights while traveling. Happy Camping

Freedom Express gets my attention! I'm a rear bedroom front kitchen fan! Also, big king bed with storage overhead, sofa directly across from entertainment center yes! Good counter space! THIS one gets my vote!

I was so hoping to finally see you do a walkthrough of Grand Design's 23LDE, it has rocketed up to the top of our future upgrade list! We do couples camping with just the two of us and this seems perfect for privacy and storage but we've been waiting to hear what you think.

Pshh until BMW makes a travel trailer I won't buy one. I'm about quality. Not to mention that I can sleep in my BMW and be more comfortable than most RVs. I've done it twice on business trips and slept like a baby

We purchased the 20212 2516 back in March. This camper is not just amazing its Great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Josh for the side by sides. My favorite would have to be the Freedom Express. To be honest tho, those 2 Rockwoods really ✔️ the boxes for me. Love the counter space & inside storage

MOST of the RVs on today's video SHOULD nicely fit most half tons But you need to verify the capacities of the truck in question individually to be safe and sure!

MOTORHOME,,,,,MOTORHOME,,,,,, MOTORHOME,,,,,,,, We started watching you about 4 years ago before We bought our Jayco Greyhawk29MV. And luckily back then you included MOTORHOMES....... I love watching your videos but I really feel the Motorhome segment is very under represented. We still love Ya.

OK finally the Freedom express that has a bed slide out and it's a king too!!! Love it, then that Rockwood Minilite the last one was nice too. But the Freedom Express was my favorite for the axels are further apart and that's what my hubby likes.

I love this video. I love all 5 RV'S. You have done a great job putting this video together. Keep up the great work.

I really enjoy this. I thought a year ago that we had decided on a travel trailer but we have yet to purchase (minds changed again). Its great to see multiple trailers in one video, makes it easier for us to compare. Keep up the great work. Man that Winnebago looks like a grand design on the inside.

11:21 so far all of these have front or rear kitchens, which I like more & more the more I’ve seen = better layouts IMO 👍🏽 👍🏽

i like these top 5 lists. even though i am more into 5th wheel toy haulers. im not going to be buying any time soon but im always looking. even if i decided not to get a toy hauler version it would still be a 5th wheel because of the better handling. good vid

Love all your videos, both the "listicals" and the full walk thrus! For many reasons, I really like the Mini Lite's and if my wife decide on a TT with a private bedroom, the 2516S and 2513S are both on our short list along with the Imagine 22RBE. I know there's not one true 1/2 ton truck, but how about doing a "listical" of Top 5 mostly 1/2 ton towable TTs (under 8000 GVWR ~ 10,000 min towing capacity). I get it that you might want to stay away from even this designation because there's more that goes into the decision (Payload capacity of the truck, how loaded up your TT will be, ... )

Josh, You missed the best small unit with a private room. Coachmen 2145RBX (aka: Northern Spirit Line) It’s got it all; down side is laminated floors instead of 5/8”plywood deck. Yet If Coachmen would just ditch the 1990’s Darker decor features to update matching their lighter wood, adding a farmhouse sink, crown that ceiling, and changed that laminated floor, I’d buy one! Shucks, I’d have bought one long ago except for that dated interior color/palette. The white-wash oak is great, but the rest must get an update to match their fresh exterior. -Still, a private suite that is sweet! And a nice sized en-suite to-boot! A REAL CONTENDER IN THE MAKING! -Come On Coachmen You are so close!

Great video! I enjoy your enthusiasm and energy as well as opinions on some great units. Maybe the people who tow with SUVs or small trucks might like a segment for even smaller and lighter ones. Maybe you have already done a video like that and I just haven’t seen it but if not, just a good suggestion for those that can’t tow much. Also Thankyou for the beginning remarks on the video!

That was the goal!

I don't care about the length. I want a trailer that functions like a one bedroom apartment, with hook-up for a washer and dryer,and want all electric as i do not want to have to contend with refilling gas containers. Also would like to know the prices on the ones you show in these clips.

That East to West was something I was unaware of, for the most part. Rockwood is always a conternder, Freedom Express as well. Cougar has some great floorplans, but it seems to lack in fit and finish from my research. Jayco has some good stuff across all price and size ranges, so much stuff out there it becomes mind boggling.

All are worthy, but I agree that Cougar and Rockwood really stand out👍👍👍I was always partial to the Mini Lite 2511S but it was just a little to big for my Frontier to tow🙁

That is one we've added to our list of possibilities. The wardrobe slide would really work for us on longer trips. We tow with an F-150 and even though we have about 1150 lbs available for hitch weight the listed dry weight 824 lbs on the 2511S has me a little concerned once we were to load it.

@@oldengineer1519 With a dry weight of less than 6,000 pounds and a length of just 26 ft, I would think that with a weight distribution hitch adjusted properly that you should be ok.

@@stevez340 Yes I would be using a WDH but that doesn't change the maximum payload numbers. By the time I add batteries and load it I will be adding 200 - 300 lbs to the tongue weight plus another 100 lbs for the hitch head taking the payload close to the amount I have available. I don't like running close to the maximum as it leaves no room for error. I have a total of 1650 lbs total payload while that is better than a lot of other trucks it just isn't enough for this trailer. We've talked about going to a 3.5L Ecoboost with the heavy duty payload package which would have over 2K lbs, and potentially be into the 3K lbs range, of payload but it seems like a lot of extra expense for an outlier small trailer no matter how nice it looks.

@@oldengineer1519 Definitely, if you load everything on the front of the trailer, but I once had a trailer with the fresh water holding tank in the back which took hundreds of pounds off of the tongue weight if I filled it which even caused my trailer to sway. If you add the same amount of weight in the rear of your trailer it will offset the added weight on the front of the trailer and wouldn’t change the original hitch weight, but if you aren’t comfortable then you should absolutely upgrade👍

@@stevez340 I understand weight can be shifted but then it becomes a game of what to move where. Specifically for the 2511S there are no storage bays in the rear so that means loading stuff into the interior. Been there and done that and don't want to go through it again. Also in this model based on the drain location I suspect the freshwater tank is either over or in front of the axles so can't be used to shift weight. I doubt I would replace the truck unless we intended on going much heavier when there are so many trailers in the under 7K lb GVWR to choose from.

Great content on this 30 ft series. We're sold on the Rockwood/ Flagstaff units as for the features they offer. We currently own a 2015 Flagstaff V- LITE 28 WRBS that we tow with a '08 F-150 5.4 V8, down here in Georgia. DW-6445 lbs It's been a great couples unit for us and our Great Dane. Keep up the great work. Love your commentaries!😎

My vote is for the 2529RG, because we own one. And it's your fault. We were looking for something like it when you put out the video about it last spring. Since we live on the east coast we went to the Harrisburg show a few weeks later and found one. Between your video and spending about 2 hours with the Winnebago rep we have not looked back. It's great when we take one of the grandkids. Every time we go out the wife says she is so glad we got it, thanks in part to your review.

@@JoshtheRVNerd Just watched the Rockwood Mini lite 26' trailer video, loved it. Just thinking the door that has the tall storage, if the door was a little taller you could put 1 or 2 kayaks in it, love that storage compartment. Have a super week.

Great vid, I have a 1/2 with max tow and I still think a few of these are a little heavy for most 1/2 tons. I thought for sure the FE 252RBS would make the cut, its one of my favorite floor plans. Almost impossible to find with a HAB sofa instead of the theatre seats. I also like the Rockwood 2606WS, though the tongue weight is a little heavy IMO for most 1/2 tons.

Some very nice campers for sure, but for towing with my Tacoma I still love our Jayco 212QB. If they every switched that floorplan to azdel I would buy one immediately! that is my only complaint about 212QB is the corrugated aluminum!

I like all the trailers, but, I believe that #5 would be my choice.

We went with the Imagine 2500rl though wanted the Cougar if not for our half ton pull specs. Love the imagine though, only real complaint is no king bed.

Some people still like the idea of that enclosed skewing space. Everyone is a little different There are some couples who don’t go to bed at the same time so the privacy wall benefits then if one stays up late

Ok how about top five couples campers with the most CARGO CARING CAPACITY and full time RV?

Josh, given your reviews, you should consider doing your own reward review at the end of the year. Kind of like how JD Power or how some KZreadrs (MKBHD) do an end-of-year award show for cellphones. They do best overall, most improved, etc categories. It would just be something fun to look forward to.

We purchased a Surveyor 252RBLE for the same reasons that this lists exists. We're in Canada, don't see many Surveyors in your reviews.

I have only recently gained access to review surveyors in the past 8 months so I don’t have a big library of them recorded quite yet

Cougar 24SABWE private bedroom with an outside door, (bought at Bish's Twin Falls). 28 feet. My RAM 1500 eco diesel payload 1490. No issues pulling, but we don't carry a bunch of stuff and we only go out for weekends, so payload hasn't been an issue.

we upgraded to the 24SAB from a Geo Pro, couldn't do the walk thru bathroom and wanted a separate bedroom. The living area is wide open with lots of windows. Rockwood's felt like caves compared to the 24SAB!

Josh First Thank you for what you do. The information that you supply is awesome. You have taught me what to look for in a travel trailer. I travel for work and I am currently looking for 30 ft under with private bedroom.

Well, this video is probably a good place to start for some ideas

The 2516s is a standout to me because of how much you get in a short camper. But I don't understand the need for a private bedroom when they're so specifically geared toward just a couple's camper. I would like to see something that better accommodates guest sleeping. Maybe focus on a sofa, hide a bed option that doesn't muck up the usability. Great to have if/when it's needed. I would imagine a camper that does that well would appeal to a wider range of buyers.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. Some people really like that privacy but it’s not for everyone

Love the east to west but would prefer rear bath but private bed room
