Over the last 30 years I have owned a CJ, YJ, TJ, JK and then back to a TJ. I went back to a TJ because it has been the Jeep I enjoyed the most. It’s been bulletproof over the years. As it relates to aftermarket support a Jeep TJ is the Glock of the offroad industry.

97 and 98 I had five TJ’s. My 98 was a Sahara and I love that thing more than life itself. The other day I come across to 06 with a perfect frame. In-line 6 4.0L with a six speed manual. I bought it for $5500. What a steal. Silver with black interior. And a one owner.

I was looking at selling my 02 TJ and buying a new truck. Stumbled on your video and couple other videos and I needed the reminder why this thing is so good.

My tjs previous life was being towed by an rv so it was practically new for me 20 years ago. A few years ago I decided to “move up in the world” and treated myself to a roadster. Not even 6 months later I gave it to my Dad and started driving the jeep again. When people ask what “my dream car is…” my answer is my tj.

I’ve owned a 4.0 YJ, a 4 door JK and now a 4.0 TJ Rubicon. I agree, the TJ is where it’s at. I’ll keep this one forever and build it up.

The TJ is the pinnacle of Jeep models if not of all dedicated 4x4s. I'll never willingly let my LJ go. Bury me in it! 😆

Nothing to add my friend. I have a '01 4.0 sport and I love this thing more then anything even though the parts are a little harder to come by over here. I'm daily driving CJ's, YJ's, TJ's and XJ's for over 35 years now and not one of them ever left me stranded . . . Hail the 4.0/4.2 inline 6 😎

I had a 2005 rubicon and absolutely loved it. I had to trade it in after 3 years (totally paid off) because I couldn’t get any more than 16 mpg. I had to drive like my grandmother to get that. Normally I got 10 - 14 mpg which was killing me. The Jeep could climb anything put in front of it and I really wish I didn’t need the gas money …but I did. Still wished I had it nowadays since I drive differently but such is life. I had a CJ7 that I bought new back in 1982 and I only got 10 mpg on that but gas was cheaper then and I could deal with it.

Had a few over the years: 1947 CJ2A, 1975 CJ5 6-cyl with T18 4-speed, 1993 YJ 4.0 5-speed, and a 2006 TJ 4.0 6-speeed. They each had strengths and weaknesses. The 2A was a blast for just putting through the woods. The YJ and TJ were much more road worthy. But my favorite was the CJ5. It was fun, raw, simple, light, and was equally at home on the trail as it was on the road, maybe not at high speed. Somedays I entertain the idea of a new Rubicon 4 door with extreme recon package but as nice as they are over the road, I'm not sure it has that same Jeep character that my old CJs had.

That's a beautiful jeep! Got my TJ back in October of 2002, it's an early/first run 2003 Rubicon, and I'm still driving it to this day. She needs some body love and steering box, other than that, she still runs like a champ... I'll depart this world owning that jeep. Great video, agree whole heartedly with all your points, especially ease of maintenance!

Same here! My first vehicle I bought is an '03 Rubicon I got in '07 and I still have it. It has 230,000+ miles on it and still runs great. No modifications to frame except for upgraded bumpers and flood lights. I'll have it until I die.

I bought a 06 TJ 4.0 automatic. Replaced temp sensor above 8 months ago. Have 112,000 miles on her. But Torque converter is bad and don't drive her because constantly goes into Limp Mode! I don't want to get rid of her but stressed about how to really fix the problem! Could be Solenoid , Valve Body, Wiring Harness HELP!!! What do I do to get her back on the road without spending a fortune chasing my tail!

"I'll depart this world owning that jeep". I feel the same. I love that everything is manual and analog on my '04 Rubi. It's easy to fix and just won't quit. She's been through detroit snowstorms, oklahoma clay, arizona sun and everywhere else in the country. She's about to hit 100k and deserves a lift and some upgrades - but stock has worked for 20 years!

Proud owner of a 2001 TJ daily driver. I’m 64 and won’t give it up. I’ve put 217 thousand miles on it and only just replaced the water pump. 😵‍💫

I like the weight reduction in most used TJ frames and the 2003-2006 Mopar 2.4 that fights the rust on the frame by leaking oil onto it.

Had a 03 Sahara and purchased an 06 sport when I found out they would be no more. I wiII never get rid of the 06. Nothing on it that I cannot repair in my driveway. And the difference between the 5-speed and the 6-speed really improved the highway driving.

I agree 100% with everything you mentioned! The military short wheel base, coil spring suspension, the 4.0L I6 and the narrow width make the TJ the greatest generation of Jeep. Rugged, utilitarian, steel grill and steel bumpers, and love how nimble it is off-road. But I never realized how wide the TJ is until I parked beside a beautifully restored '47 Willys a couple of years ago. The TJ is definitely the widest I would ever want to go in a Jeep. I foolishly had an '08 jk-x 2 dr many years ago before I knew what a Jeep truly is. That 3.8 mini van engine was absolute garbage, burning no less than a qt of oil between changes. That thing was massively, goofy suv wide. I never once felt like I was in a real Jeep the short time I had it, because it wasn't. I've had my '05 TJ Rocky Mtn 4.0L for several years now, and it is by far the best and most fun vehicle I've ever had. It rides amazing on and especially off road. I have posted the build on your channel and several others. When you get the TJ dialed in to what you will do with it, you can't wait to share this info with your fellow TJ Jeeper. Smiles by the miles is a real thing just like the wave among the '41 - '06 Jeeps. I love the CJ-7 because it looks to be the most classic looking Jeep inside out. But the TJ is far more capable on and off-road. Great video 👍

I put JK 44's under mine. Electric lockers are so awesome to have. The previous 30 and 35 had 3.07's and couldn't handle steeper gears and of course the 35 had issues. It turned out to be just the ticket!

Great video, seeing other TJ's makes me smile! I've had my 2000 TJ for 17 years. I have gotten close to selling it a couple times, then when I cleaned it up to show it, I had to pull it off the market. I bought the Renegade BU as a commuter and I hate it! I love my TJ and don't think I can ever part with it!!

I've been on many mountain trails where the road is on the side of a mountain and barely the width of my '06 Rubicon. You can find yourself in a very tough situation when the road runs out, but with the TJ, you can still turn around on the trail.

Completely agree. I had a 93YJ and now a 99 TJ. The TJ has been completely built for rock crawling and I doubt I will ever get rid of it. Love this thing.

Your videos have convinced me to look for a mint TJ, instead of buying a JK or JL. Hope to travel down to the U.S. in May and pick one up. Love watching your videos! Have learned so much. Keep up the great work. Thank you!!

That's exactly why I just bought a 03 TJ. My wife had a 94 YJ she bought in 95, we had and built it until she sold it in 21 She bought a 22 Gladiator, and we just needed another real Jeep. So I bought the 03 about 3 weeks ago. I'm looking forward to this build. And we'll keep this one until it's a rust pile in the yard.

Nice video! People talk a lot about the 4.0L engine, but the 2.5L is also very very robust and also present quite some fuel efficiency when compared with the 4.0L. For light off-road, mud and sand situations, not crazy rock crawling, or a rig heavily modified the 2.5L inline 4 cylinders is also a great option! I have one 2.5L 1999 running in fantastic condition and on all my situations have done really well! (I am talking from previous experience of Pajero 3.5L V6, Pajero IO 2.0L and others 4x4)

I've dreamed of having a Jeep for as long as I can remember. I'm about to buy my daughters 2002 TJ from her (She's buying a more fuel efficient vehicle for work) It's not in the best of shape at this time, but I would love to be able to make it look as cherry as yours! Baby steps.

I bought a 2015 willys weeler for my wife. It really drove nice off road. They geared it just right. Now , that being said, I own a 04 LJ . We just TODAY bought a 03 X because my wife said , and i quote " it just doesn't feel right, like I'm in a freakin SUV . She is happy her "new" jeep. 😊

another benefit to the size and agility is you can grab those tight parking spaces most other vehicles can't.

Can't argue. Retired the 88 yj with leaf springs in 06. Great turning radius, turns on a dime. Beat the crap out of it. With 30x950's would do 3 feet of snow, but unwillingly. Easy to replace water pump, which I did. Quite happy with my 17 jk, doesn't turn as well, being a 4 door, but works, and is still a jeep. Thanks for this.

Excellent video and builds confidence in my hopefully successful purchase... I am in the process of purchasing my first 04 TJ Rubicon... Do you by chance have a video or more info on the locker setup you have... I noticed many folks with the TJ Rubi (or maybe its all with lockers) created individual locker switches for front and rear, but I can't find how to do this. I am probably jumping the gun with mods but getting all the videos or info together so I can start the projects. Thanks again for your time and reading my comment. Keep making great content. Mine is an X so it didn’t come with factory lockers. I don’t have a specific locker video, but I have an Eaton selectable E-locker in each axle. They are wired separately where I can engage one or the other, or both. Thanks for watching the channel!

That's a sweet TJ! I have the ‘06 TJ and love it for all the reasons you pointed out. This thing is a pleasure to own and drive. The 4.0 L is a breeze to work on (change plugs, oil and maintenance are a breeze) and is damned near bullet proof. At 160K miles it still runs very smooth, uses little to no oil with access to everything under the hood is a dream. The simplicity of driving it is one of my favorite things above all. I'm truly tired of all the crap you must manage just to drive our other cars. I've replaced the coil pack once and the camshaft sensor twice (each easily replaced in about 20-30 minutes.) Standard Electric brand has been the best I’ve found so far and I always buy two. and exhaust since new. I had the tranny rebuilt about 20K miles ago that cost roughly two grand. Yes, I do off road with it, no rock crawling but through the woods and fields for fishing and hunting. I could never ask for a better experience. And yes, the mileage sucks at about 14-16 mpg but the low-end torque will get me anywhere I've ever wanted to go. Do the maintenance, always use only Mopar parts when available, and use any of the great Jeep forums for help and or advice.

I acquired my 2001 TJ in 2023 and it's very impressive got it with the 4.0L i6,auto 3spd,2.5" lift,dana 44 axles and 35" tires good lord it can crawl up anything 💪 catches alot of attention on the road also 👀

I have a 97 TJ. I bought it from my friend's wife in December of last year. He had passed away suddenly, and it was sitting in her backyard collecting dust. I never owned a Jeep before, I was always a truck guy. He had put a lot of love and time and effort into this thing. It will crawl rocks all day long, ford streams by snorkel, yet cruise the highway at 70 miles an hour in 4th gear. I never have had to use 5th gear. I gave her more than fair market value. I didn't know how much fun jeeps were as I've never owned one until this one, and this one is staying with me until I take a dirt nap. This year is known for a lot of little idiosyncrasies and problems, but they're all fixable.

Had 2 ‘97s. First was a sport with blown out 2nd gear. Second TJ was a Sahara. Much better. Both had 4.0l and were beasts.

Can even go more into this model with the 02's to 06's being the best and the Sports, Sahara and Rubicon having the options most would want. I agree too that simpler vehicles like the TJ are the best and tell everyone to buy vehicles older than 2004 or so just because they make vehicles now so as you mentioned harder to work on and everything has to be plugged in and not simple at all. I have and 02' Sport and a 96' honda civic and I never have problems with working on them myself. Last thing I still love the YJ s and CJs and wouldnt mind get one of those as well.

That’s correct. The later model TJ’s seemed to have less issues than the ‘90’s models (which still didn’t have many)

I have a '97 TJ. I use it mostly as my tow vehicle when I RV and not necessarily for off-roading. However, I love driving it, even on city streets.

Im a die hard toyota guy. But I also own a 2000 Jeep TJ sahara that was my dads. I must say I love this thing. Ive taken it everywhere my toyota has gotten me to and back. The 4.0L is an amazing engine. Overall the TJ is a joy to work on and everything can be done easily like installing a lift and larger tires. Sometimes I wish my toyota was as easy to work on haha. Never selling it.

I got a 2005 Rubicon same color. it's a beast.

Bytheway, I order a 97 when they came out. It was cool but, but, it sat at the dealership for months on end. The 99 sahara, flawless to this day even though it hasnt retained it stock ,,,anything, But its a daily driver for my son now. Motor and second tranny (5 speed) is flawless. Once i knew and was coroborated by the web, 10w30 full syn, tranny is fine. Changed the first one at about 63K to 68k. Always ran a centerforce dual friction clutch.

I agree with you on the TJ platform . I have an 03 TJ and my wife has a 07 JK ( 2 door ) and I prefer my TJ over her JK .

Nice build.. What's the sunroof thing u have. And do you have a space for the front shocks.. i like the look of tj with front higher than rear.. i have a 2005 tj with rough country 2.5inch lift kit..

I’ve had the ‘99 Wrangler Sport for 25 years and it’s ruined me on any other car. It’s definitely been a money pit, but for the seven and a half minutes it’s actual run without any problems, it is THE most fun vehicle ever!!!

...and the last jeep made that can truly claim American Pride.

Really nice looking Jeep. Mine is a 99 4L Sport. I've had an 85 CJ7, an 88 YJ Sahara, all with 4L and manual, but the TJ 4L is the best Jeep ever made.

I loved my Rubicon TJ and slugged through so many things with that Jeep. What also comes to mind is if you want to swap out the AMC engine for a diesel, it is way more accessible with a TJ as there are only rudimentary electronics; with my JK, the computer flipped out when I switched out the factory radio and would not let the Jeep started. This is getting ridiculous with Jeep as they prevent modifications through the computer. I, for one, would love to switch out my van engine for a TDI, which can be done with Coty Modifications up here in BC, Canada.

I’m from NC, but living in the northeast at the moment. Didn’t own my TJ down south but I will be moving back south soon once my fiancé is able to. Looking at GA or MS. Are they more lenient in the south when it comes to off-road fenders and tires that stick out further than the fenders when inspecting and registering? I hate swapping things out just to go through inspection for a few minutes. Thanks!

I have a 2003 4.0 , 5 speed TJ rust free , running and driving . Only 117,000 miles. I have half of my lift on it but haven't had time to finish it . Maybe a retirement project !

The only reason I switched from my Yj to tj is for the fuel injection I kept stalling on steep angles when crawling

It is the best because of the near bulletproof 4.0 liter straight six engine. I regret getting rid of the 2 I had.

Had a 1994 YJ 2.5l, 3” lift with 32” tires. It looked good but very under powered. If I was to get another Jeep it would be a TJ. I’ve got a 1994 Bronco now with a a 351 W and it’s more than capable.

I brought a97 new an a o6 new i now own a 98 rag top TJ as well 👍🏻💯⛽️🇦🇺.

Very nice jeep, I needed more room tho so got a '99 XJ 5spd, had it for 13 yrs now, been gr8.

It’s a nice cage and would provide extra reinforcement in case of a roll over. It’s not as solid as a full weld-in cage like Genright offers, but I like it.

The Wrangler TJ is the last traditional Jeep ever made, and likely ever to be made again. It is a treasure. Anybody that can get one and love it, should get it and keep it forever, lovingly and dedicatedly maintaining, repairing, upgrading, modifying it and passing it to only someone that will love it just the same, when the big checkout date is in sight. The JK and JL are over engineered tribute vehicles with a radical departure from the tradition of a spartan, durable, extremely capable, easy to maintain and repair, vehicle. There is nothing wrong with them. They simply are not the traditional Jeeps of the legacy Jeep years.

'05 TJ X 4.0 6 speed manual Soft top with half doors and sliding windows. 4 inch lift 33x12.50x15 BFG KO2's Aftermarket bumpers 9.5 high speed Waren And a few more goodies. Bought it 5 or 6 years ago. With 65,xxx miles on it already lifted. Done the rest myself. $14,000.oo LOVE IT!!! I do miss my '99 XJ tho. 😥

Change your intake manifold to a 99, might have been changed in 98 not sure. Went through about 7-8 headers from Borla. Last one I did was about , GOD,,, 18 years ago. Their last rendition worked.

I understand your #5 but some factory OEM parts that keep a TJ running are being discontinued. Can you say its worth investing more money in a TJ? I want to invest in my LJ but is it money wasted in 5 years? What is your take on this.

More specifically, I think the best Jeep ever made would be a 2005-2006 TJ Unlimited Rubicon 6-speed manual. I would love to have one, but not willing to pay $25k for one that isn’t rotted out. I haven’t had a Jeep in a long time now, but thinking about building a TJ Unlimited with a coyote 5.0 manual at some point.

I traded in an '89 4.2 YJ 5 manual for a '06 Rubi' (dual top/6 speed) due to was told the YJ's oil leak needed an engine pull to repair. ~ erm. Juggled monies around and paid cash for the Rubi' and paid ourselves back vs... Plus nobody could take it away if lost our jobs. YJ was awesome fun pulling sleds, downhill skis/skier behind on roads 'n the 200 acre Gramp's old digs farm..four miles of mildish trails...full length ski rope. Ha, could feel the skier tug load when coming around the side some. YJ was hardtop only, it would do all trails...few 25-30° hills at idle. ...I thought hmmm.. ~ Sandy the missus..I says; get up on the roof with these here beers. Lets go for an elephant ride around the place. 6'4", lanky as Gumby I could get down into the cockpit in a few seconds from on the roof...leg in the window steering. (-: lol, no I never fell off opening the door. What fun! As I got betta at steering we tackled the wooded trails along the river, tunes or no tunes playing. The "Elephant Ride" was born. Two hour tour at the least. ~ Soft top on the Rubi' made it with easier just dropping down from the roll bar. ~ Hills a bit at idle..ahhh, that's what a governor does. (-: (needs barefoot to not mar up the steering wheel) YJ with a 6 speed would have been nice. Towed a a dual snowmobile trailer seven hour trip, 2k FGlass fish/ski boat twice 160 mi. trip to Gramps farm with th YJ. Times feeling guilty peddle to floor pulling/passing with the boat. blah blah, sorry so long. But both were/are great Jeeps. Likes the TJ betta. YJ just had so much fun history.

oh yeah, Nice Jeep EO. Mine I left stock. The missus is the one that took us to Jeeps. She used to plow snow with CJ's, un-stuck pals besides a daily driver. She wanted nothing to do with lifted mods. ~ Of that wide tire/axel setup. I thought folks get ticketed for not having mud flaps with such? Even tho the Rubi's tire sticks out a hair.

Picking up a tj tomorrow hopefully.

Easily the best ones. Great engine, axles, comfort, great suspension, plus doesn't have the problems that newer Jeeps have. Just watch your frames for rust

Ive owned a '93 YJ 4.0 5 speed, a '01 TJ 4.0 5 speed, and now own a '14 JK 6 speed. As much as i loved the TJ, i do love the more modern feel of the JK and daily road comfort. That being said, if I were to straight up pick one for strictly off road, TJ is my choice hands down. Man, my TJ on 35s though ate gas like a mofo

This is also why the WJ is bad ass. ...well actually theZJ had the same thing vs. the flawed but great 3 link the WJ's had. GC those days will be highly sought after mark my words.

Just replaced the fuel pump in my 97. Had to use a Carter after market, the OEM is unavailable. The Jeep has 103k and runs great.
