I have been pretty fortunate with my original owner ‘09 5.4 3v. Engine wise over 14 years now it’s only needed an a/c clutch pump (2013) passenger side exhaust manifold (2018) and new VCT Solenoids (2022). The check engine light has never even come on once in all those years and the properly maintained engine still runs smooth and quietly and gets over 20 mpg hwy in a 4x S/crew. They say 2009 was a good year for the F150 and in my experience I agree.

Hi ! Thank you for teachings on Ford 150 trucks I bought a used 2112 150 “premium” and a month later I was driving it and suddenly it lost power, I barely pulled over. I turned off and after trying 5 times in 15 minutes span seems like it resettled itself. But it has done 3 more times. Am scared it could be the transmission. If you please can cast some light on this I’ll appreciate it.

I’ll bet it’s a 4x4, huh? That noise is the 4 wheel drive engagement hub. I think it’s called iwe or something like that. Integrated wheel…..engagement? Whatever. Either the rubber boot/sleeve on it tears or a vacuum leak elsewhere. You no longer have vacuum to keep the aluminum iwe hub of the actual hub. What you’re hearing is the splines of one rubbing the other without being able to engage. Now watch…..you probly don’t have a 4x4!

Transmission Lead frame, sudden downshift to first. Programming recall keeps it from destroying the transmission (hopefully). It will fail eventually $1200. Fuel pump Fuse melts down, prevents starting or could cause engine to shut down randomly. Relocation kit part number from Ford EL3Z-14293-A $20. Rear main oil seal just started leaking on 5.0L at 180k may not be a problem on every truck but the first two are guaranteed and will need to be dealt with on every truck from this series.

I had this issue when under hard acceleration, passing or going up a steep grade. These conditions would cause sputtering, cylinder misfire or fuel cut off (people describe it differently). Changing the plugs (gapped at .028), also replacing ignition coil boots (not the whole coil) will typically clear that up.

I have an 2012 echo boost. Worst decision I have ever made! Timing chain, bad, pcm bad, 4x4 actuators bad, build up on the injectors from direct injection not cleaning the valves, bad. Basically the entire front end has been replaced. First / last Ford I ever own. Back to Chevy. I had only 2k worth of service in 20 years of driving 2 suburbans . And the both had 250k+ on trade it. I’m at like 10k with this POS. Never again.

Bro said 3.6 multiple times when it says 3.5 right on the intake. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ glad I have a 3.5 and not the mythical 3.6 that seem to have a lot of problems 😂

Can we say GM 5.3 . . . oil consumption. I had a 5.4, '01 4wd, traded @ 285k and the only issue ever was the in tank fuel pump @250k

@@fireant1272 Ram? I wouldn't talk. Broken exhaust manifold, sensors, engine knocking, stalling, bad oil pumps, overheating, camshaft issues, rattling, etc. I'm not saying Ford is perfect, but they're build quality is more manageable to the general public then Ram in my opinion. Even GM is better honestly, and I don't even like the newer ones.

Talked to a guy that owned both a Ram and F150. The Ram is much more expensive to fix. And his FX4 is 11th generation.
