I bought my Caliber new at the dealership in March 2008. 15 years later, it is still my daily driver. The road salt from the Canadian winters sure has taken its toll on the old girl, but she is still running strong. Since it's such a simple and easy to work on car, I've done all my own repairs. (Front struts, tie rods, alternator, brakes, etc). Everyone told me that I was a fool for buying Mopar, but, this car won't die. Very happy with my 15 year old purchase.

Did you have any problems with the subframe or control arms rusting?? Apparently this had been an issue and they could be replaced for free under the extended warranty - I didn’t know this until my daughter had an accident because the control arms were rotted through…

Okay, the wireless control module thing explains so much. The other day I pulled up to the park and when I tried to lock the car, nothing happened. Then I tried to start the engine, nothing happened. We figured we'd at least go enjoy the park before calling AAA, no rush. We get back to the car and it's fine. I've been nervous about this cause I had no idea why it was happening, but I probably just need to replace the battery in my key. Nifty video!

I really liked our 2008 Dodge Caliber. We sold it at 100K miles, ready for something a bit more sophisticated, so we got a 2016 Jeep Compass - almost the same as the Caliber as many know. Anyway, problems that we had were common, according to what I read. Control arms rusted in front; replaced for free under warranty extension. Hood rusted at the latch because the water could not drain properly (no drain holes!). At 10 years old the rocker panels were rusting. We paid to have that fixed, then sold it. Other than what I described above it was a very good car. Fantastic in the snow with studded snow tires (no need for 4WD with quality snows).

I will add to the sunroof drain issue. If blowing them out from the top does not work, the ends of those get clogged. Make sure you open the sunroof, pop the hood and they are located in the left and right sides on the fire wall. They are kind of akward so I attached bendy surgical hose and it fixed my issue.

Thanks Guys @1A Auto: Repair Tips & Secrets Only Mechanics Know I'm finding through my own issues with this vehicle another common issue is with the drivers side power window switches and the regulator assembly/motor cable snapping. Unless that happens with most cars that are 15 years old LOL FYI if your PW Cable snaps you end up just buying the whole "Drivers Side Power Window Regulator Assembly + Motor" for $60-80 depending where you shop. You can buy just the "Regulator Assembly" w/o motor for about $15-20 less but if your going in to repair that stuff you might as well just do the whole thing IMHO :)

Maaaann, I think my 2010 Caliber SXT might have that Wireless Control Module issue(I hope not, and it’s just the key battery) it was parked for about 4-5 months, worked PERFECTLY FINE when I parked it, the battery in the key has NEVER been replaced since we got it. Anyways, I had went and bought a brand new car battery because I thought that was the issue(the old one needed replacing anyways, although it DID hold a charge) and when I tried starting it, it had power at first then just clicked like the battery was dead, so I popped the hood again and swapped out the new battery for another battery from one of my other cars which I know is perfectly fine because it’s my daily, and it was doing the same thing, it finally started after I started messing with the battery terminals, disconnected reconnected many times. But now you got me thinking it could be something so simple as the key battery 🤦‍♂️

Here in the Rust Belt the #1 problem with a Caliber is the K frame rusting out. Sorry all of the issues you are talking about are minor issues, now the K frame rusting out, which seems a very common problem. Don't believe me go to a junk yard and try and find a Caliber with a K frame that is not rusted out. Actually it is a relative easy replacement job if you can remember Lefty Loosey Righty Tighty. A new K frame assembly is available on E-bay for $130 to 150 and takes about 3-4 hours to change out, unless you get some help then it could take days. Suggest you watch several KZread videos on this change as if you don't do it in order you will paint yourself into some rather unique problems. Step Daughter got a very low mileage Caliber with a rusted out K frame and her significant other didn't listen and watch the videos first. Well he actually was entertaining as he found EVERY WRONG way to replace the part. Let him stew for a couple of weeks then got it sorted out for him.

So is it normal that RPM's go up to almost 2 after ignition? It's winter timer, so this can be a sort of a winter mode, but I m not sure TBH. It doesnt happen when the engine is warm.

Ok so we got one of these used it’s a 2010. I’m not used to CVT transmissions so I don’t know how it is supposed to sound or feel like. The car seems to drive and shift fine but I notice the revs stay at 3000 RPMs when going 60 mph. No check engine light however the ABS light is on. It needs a wheel speed sensor so I’m hoping this might lower the rpms. Anyone know what this could be?

I would like to add the very poorly designed rear suspension with spherical bearings on the lower control arm, upper control arm and toe link, they wear out fast just due to the nature of its design, wich ends up causing very bad camber and toe, and clunking, an absolute nightmare

I had to replace the following since I had the car 2008 caliber from new around 179,000 miles. 2 alternators, 1 starter, 1 throttle body. 2 sets of front struts, 2 rear shocks, 2 replacement radios, front tie rods, front sway bar bushings, sway links front & back, basically whole new suspension front & back, 3 Batteries cam/crank sensors (forgot which one had to be replaced twice!) replace clock print cuz the horn stopped working) Water pump just replaced! Back windshield wiper hose runs through the roof & came undone & leaked all in the rear hatch! Dealership fixed but came undone… I saw how the guy did it & fixed it myself with radiator hose tape & works great till this day 😂 There more I’ve replaced… There should be some sort of class action lawsuit when this much stuff goes bad like this! Vehicle is very heavy & underpowered! If ya need a cheap beater maybe it’s good for you… Quality sucked! I hope dodge has done better. Soon as I get enough money saved up I wanna get a truck & get rid of this money pit! I’m sure others would agree! Shoulda got a charger back then. This car is way too small too inside! As you can see I highly dislike this car! Nothing but trouble 😅

I have a 2010 Caliber and I live in upstate NY. My vehicle as well as most of the ones I see have noticeable rust on the rocker panels. I could do better keeping the salt off it in the winter, true. However, it's really just the rocker panels that are bad so there's something going on there I think...

2007 I have a dodge caliber . I had a subframe destroyed and maybe the stopper of the steering wheels is broken or smth. I changed the subframe and now when I turn the wheel on the left , the tire is grinding on the inner side of the car. Can someone tell me where is the stopper for the wheel or adjuster if you call it like that. The mechanic was escaping my questions about this . He said that the car went under lots of stress and is nothing that I can do. Any help would be appreciated. Don’t want to let this car go since it has just 72.000 miles or 138.000 kilometres. These cars can run to 450.000 kilometres or in miles is about 280.000
