Steve thanks as always for a great season. I still go back to your “If Clemson can do it why can’t we?” video after I believe the ‘19 season and just really stands out now after what UM has accomplished the last three years and especially this year! Great stuff

When cade got his chance... Michigan was down in a game by 17pts , if my memory serves me right... He threw the ball good enough to win that game.

Cade was a very good quarterback. People forget that he left Nevada holding nearly all the records for quarterbacks in the state. He's not some talentless loser. He's a damn good QB. Yes, JJ was better and I would have rather the transfer been less vocal, but none of that changes that he's a solid QB. He beat OSU and got Michigan to their first playoff appearance. That can never be taken from him. People will quibble about how big his role was but he was up to the challenge where other QB's (Shea, Speight, etc) weren't with teams just as good as the 2021 team

Look at the growth of milroe at bama ... If Michigan can get that growth outta orgi , then Michigan should be in good shape.

I think that Michigan will perform better than expected this year. I’m not saying that they will go undefeated in every game and win the National Championship again, but I think they will be competitive in every game that they play in. And they WILL beat one team this year that they shouldn’t. Go Blue.

This schedule is not only brutal, but with Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA joining the conference, the “flavor” of it all will change the dynamics enough to effect the, oh, rhythm? Is that the right word? The rhythm of playing Big 10 football because of the clash of styles. Whomever wins the conference will have at least one conference loss on their record.

Remember Gary Danielson's famous quip from all those CBS/SEC telecasts : this is a conference where you can't hide your quarterback ? Hmm ... don't know if the Big Ten is quite that way, but the second half of that quote : he - or the position - needs to make four to six plays per game to ensure victory sounds about right for UM '24 - individual, dual, committee, et al. 🏈🏈🏈

Michigan fan here! And I'm gonna be honest. I see this year turning out a lot like 2017. That year we had a really good running game and defense. But our QB situation was a merry go round! I see that happening this year.

Man I hate to agree but you could be right! That situation was handled poorly in my opinion. Michigan needs to let more Freshmen QBs have a go at it.. how come 🚫su, Bama, Georgia and others do it with success but Michigan won't even try it 🤣. Either way go blue

If it does become a merry-go-round, I'm rooting for Jadyn Davis to be the winner when it stops.

I believe Davis Warren will emerge the starter a solid young man with the Moxy to lead.

And Warren’s play in actual games last year indicated he’s just an average QB.

In my opinion it needs to be Alex Orji. The single biggest reason is that the guy can run. Modern football requires QBs to run. Orji has a whole off-season and Fall camp to dev as a passer. But we are a running team and having a running QB that can run a read option is a huge advantage.

Steve - have you heard about the impending dissolution of the NCAA? Would be great to hear your input on the BIG/SEC powerhouse running the show.

The problem with McCord wasnt his arm. Had some fantastic throws. Footwork, lack of pocket presence (had the most grounding penalties I've ever seen). He missed a lot of easy passes. But mostly seemed to lack a real competitive drive. I'll be rooting for, he certainly could become a really good player

Why not run a triple option package with Orji for perhaps a drive per quarter?

after the season we just had, if Michigan goes 10-2 and MAYBE makes it into the playoffs, I would be perfectly fine with the season. Plus I think we will be pleasantly surprised with this team. Also steve, you MUST put either JJs 1 handed catch throw or another play from the rose bowl/ natty game into that intro next year.

Imagine if Orji were a full time running back. Who would stop him from getting one hondo per game?

Yep- if Orgi doesn't get the QB job, they should play him at running back. He has an NFL career to think about too.

The preeminent front-runner: Alex Orji will assume the mantle. JJ McCarthy performed above and beyond his prototypical mobile QB mold. Now Orji who is an actual dual-threat QB, will be able to work that system the way RPO/Spread is designed to operate. The pass is the option not the run... (different nuance) We are going to see exciting offensive football play that harkens back to when Denard Robinson used to light secondaries up... I am totally looking forward to this season. I think we got the best overall DL in college football I'm not worried about the OSU offensive line.

Michigans going be alright just like any other team we arent falling off the map like when rich rod took over.

You will see more QB runs, RPOs, and zone reads from the Buckeyes in 2024.

They do NOT have a championship level QB on the roster now. Wish they would try to pull a big name through the portal. Tamper away like all the big schools do.

If Michigan beats TX, I could see them being undefeated when they play Oregon. Assuming both Washington and USC will be challenging games, but do not see them losing those with the defense they have coming back.

I'm standing by my prediction that Jack Tuttle will start in game #1!

I personally don't love that the most commonly cited and best attribute of the annointed QB1 is his ability to "run over" people. If Alex is the guy great, but I would hope his PASSING is what earns him the job. A look back at our boy JJ in the 2023-2024 season: JJ averaged 4.26 carries a game and apparently in NCAA, even sacks are counted as a carry attempt. In a 15 game season he rushed for a total of 202 yards, and that figure also includes yardage lost in a sack. His longest run was 22 yards and his average run was 3.2 yards. 3 rushing TDs the whole season. Make of it what you will. We don't know what these guys look like at practice so we'll just argue about the spring game performances. I just hope whoever is QB1 can do more than run the ball. Fantasies of our QB being ironman and bowling defenders over every other play will only give us turnovers and an injured QB. We already have RBs, let's use them. I wish them all luck and I'll support whoever wins but the starter should get used to half the fans calling for the backup if things don't look great. Happens all the time 🤣

Orji's highest value is as a DK Metcalf-like receiver and mix him in at QB. Get him the ball in space and let him run over people!

I'm not being a optimist because of what I seen Cade do. What I am saying is Georgia won back to back with a good QB not elite. Imo that's what Michigan did last year. I didn't think JJ was the best, all though I don't think he hit his ceiling. I thought JJ was a good QB, he made the plays we needed most when it mattered. It's my belief, that we can develop the guy's we have to the level we need them to be at. Finger's crossed, I hope I'm right.

Folks just continue to underestimate the Wolverines ok just keep sleeping.

Orji should be the starter because of his running ability. And simply because he is a phenomenal athlete! But Moore will likely platoon multiple quarterbacks in the early season. Which he should to see which one performs best in games.

He’s not the same caliber player as Bijon Robinson, but has the same ‘style’ which is sought after. He’ll have inflated enough stats too since he’s the CLEAR RB1 on the roster and will get fed in this offense.

@@joelopez1775 Because he gets arm tackled a lot, and isn't a threat unless he gets to the 2nd level. He struggled last season. Should be a full time receiver instead of RB. Gonna be a long year for him, starting in game one. Texas will key on him bigtime and make Orgi throw pix. Orgi should be at running back.

I’m tired of hearing that Warren and Orji don’t have the necessary game experience to be winning QB’s. Orji has played meaningful snaps in big games. He has shown his athletic ability as a runner. He can handle the ball. Davis Warren has been in the program since 2021, he is 22 years old, he practices against superior defensive players, many of which are on NFL rosters or will be next year. I expect both Orji and Warren to hit the ground running in 2024. Yes, both will make rookie mistakes but both have what it takes to win games for Michigan. I think both are better now than Cade McNamara was when Michigan beat OSU and won the Big 10 Championship in 2021.

And they told Lamar Jackson to be a wr😂😂 you don't know till you give orji a chance

Davis Warren. 9 throws, 140 yards, 2 passing touchdowns. This is a no-brainer. Alex Orji can be the best backup in the country, and Tuttle will get some snaps as well.

Loveland definitely is TE1. Mason Graham is definitely DT1. Will Johnson is definitely CB1. And Barham is possibly LB1 (non ED LB).

Defense wins. Michigan should average a minimum of 27 points per game regardless of who is QB, particularly with the talent level in the room. With that defense, they will allow a maximum of 14 points per game, more likely 10. Do the math, folks. They will roll quite well with the QB they have. Can they win a Natty with the guys in the room? Yes! They absolutely CAN. Will they? We don't know. It's highly unlikely, statistically and logically improbable. They could bring in Arch Manning or Peyton Manning and there's no guarantee they will win any more games. Football is a team sport and we have at least 3 guys who can compete at the highest level of college football. They deserve a chance. I'm starting to resent all of these Michigan men not respecting our own and continuing to cry and whine for an unnamed, unknown outsider to come in and take over at QB. I think they have the TEAM to rise to the top. I wouldn't mess with that UNLESS there is a clear UPGRADE...and there's not. Stop it already. You're a downer on the program and a kick to the teeth of these outstanding, young QBs who have worked so hard and have stayed the course.
