I'm a guy that makes a living with his hands and tools. I've been at it 45 years so far. In my experience of all the many tools I tried over the years, when it comes to Cordless tools I always use Ryobi. The performance is top notch! They can take abuse and keep on going. I once dropped one off a roof onto a concrete driveway 3 stories down. It broke into 3 pieces with 2 wires connected to each piece. I was out in the middle of Nowhere far from Home Depot. I was minutes away from being done with the job. Nearest Home Depot was 45 minutes away. I used duct tape and pieced it back together. Not only did I finish the job I got 2 1/2 years more use out of it before it just died. So Yeah, I agree with this guy when he says Ryobi is a good tool brand!

I've been using Ryobi as well all my tools that I can buy Ryobi I just got done getting their new HP brushless impact hammer drill regular drill and grinder and I have been thoroughly impressed with them. I have the corded laser skill saw that's amazing I have ripped down two by fours and look like perfect trim didn't even have to stay on the cuts with the Diablo blade. And I still have my drills from 11 years ago that I bought from Ryobi when they switched like he talked about I have dropping them off a two-story roofs I've left them out in the rain I even left them underneath a tarp out in the weather in Missouri for a year. I did no maintenance on those drills never added oil never cleaned them and they still work today. The one thing I've noticed about Ryobi versus any other tool is that they're like cats they have nine plus lives. They just keep coming back to life after they die. So even though Ryobi might not outperform tools like Milwaukee and flex they pretty much outperform all the rest and the longevity of the tool is not matched by any other.

Y’all should do a “who owns who”/history video of all the brands we know and love. Such as how Stanley Black and Decker own DeWalt, Black and Decker, Stanley, Porter Cable, Craftsman, Irwin, Lenox, and MAC Tools. Along with manufacturing of a lot of the Husky tools. TTI owns Ryobi, Rigid “Orange”, Milwaukee, Hart, Stiletto Tools, and Empire Tools. Chevron owns EGO, Kobalt 24v, and Skil. Bosch owns Bosch, Dremel, Diablo, and Freud. JPW owns JET and Powermatic. Emerson owns Rigid “Red” or their hand tools everyone loves. TTS owns Festool and Sawstop. KKR own Hikoki, Metabo HPT, and Metabo. And how HILTI and Makita are the only two major companies that aren’t owned by any subsidiary companies.

afaik TTI does not own the Ridgidbrand. TTI only manufactures some of the Ridgid-branded powertools.

Also, a hidden fact about Ryobi. The reason they still have that “old school” type of battery style. Even though battery technology keeps advancing. They want their battery platform to work on ALL generations of their power tools. Although you can’t stick one of their old Ni-Cad batteries on their newer tools. But, that new Lithium-Ion battery you’ve got will work in your old blue and red Ryobi tools.

In Europe we have two types of Bosch. Bosch green which are the DIY man's tool and the Bosch blue which are the pro stuff. The blue are top quality, I was surprised when you said that people put them down, shame on them 🤦🏻‍♂️

I think it's more to do with brand familiarity and exposure. If Bosch had more support in big box stores here I would probably buy Bosch. Their tools are generally fairly good quality.

Bosch doesn’t release like a third of their tools in the north American market, and they choose ridiculously old models to store on the only public shelves that they consign space from at Lowe’s. If you walked into Lowe’s you would think that Bosch doesn’t have any 12V EC brushless tools. NO L-Boxxes, and if you call Bosch customer service and ask for exact fit inlays you get told they don’t stock or sell such things and don’t you dare import tools from Europe. Bosch here in North America primarily tries to sell to businesses and cares very little for customer service. I’m a Bosch guy in North America, which apparently means I like neglect and abuse...😳

I suppose it's like Milwaukee here in France, very hard to come by so that puts off lots of builders. I use DeWalt but I do have a large hammer drill from Bosch. I suppose I chose DeWalt for the storage system over Makita and Bosch, the tough system boxes are great.

If it's made Germany, yes. If it's made in China, don't know. I've been disappointing with Bosch products and found out that it was made in China. German engineering is useless when the manufacturing gets out-sourced to cheap labor with low standards and poor quality inspections. I don't blame the Chinese people, I blame the big companies that what only to increase their bottom line. We need to make our own stuff here in the US and Canada.

I live in texas..(🇺🇸 usa)....and most People i know love Bosch!!....green ones are really good.....but the blue ones are freaking awesome!!!)

I use several Bosch corded tools. They have held up to major job site demand and abuse. No problems over the course of several years and they have proven to be a bargain compared to other pro brands, especially if on sale. I moved from DeWault to Hitachi (now Metabo HPT) cordless tools about 6 years ago as they were well reviewed, typically less expensive and have a lifetime warranty on the tool body. They are amazing. Have not sent one in for service yet. They are powerful, light and take abuse. I’ve been on several jobs where I’ve heard other tradesmen and even my co-worker (25 years master plumber) refer to them as “homeowner grade”. They changed their minds on that after using them. I think Metabo/Hitachi deserves more respect from the professional community than they receive.

I've always stated that Ryobi is extremely underrated... much much better than people give them credit for...And they have the largest 18 V platform on the market... Great tools at a great price...Can't ask for more

Cool video Nick Good job on the presentation. I just replaced a 30 year old 10" Craftsman miter box saw and a 10" compact table trim saw also about 25 to 30 years old LOL !!!! They did get looked at like are serious !!!!! Those 2 made a bunch of cash over a long time. There now keep in a place of honor in my shop 😁. There replacements are the Hitachi/Metabo HPT 10" table saw and the Hitachi/Metabo HPT 10" dual bevel sliding miter saw.

You're crazy, The home depot i woerked at didnt even have security for the ryobi tools. Bosch, makita, ridgid, milwaukee, dewalt all had locks and multiple cameras on them.

Bosch is a great company. I agree 100% on that one. I am a hater if Ridgid though. I've been down that road and they were nothing but problems for me. I also have close friends that use Ridgid on a daily basis and all they have to brag about is the warranty and how they got all these years old tools replaced all the time. Meanwhile, the Makita set they've had for 15 years is still used on every job

I bought two Ryobi drills in 1999, and they still work.

I own a Bosch drill and 1/2" impact driver (blue professional ones). I have beat the HELL out of that drill on the job, and it continues to work as good as the day it was new!! The impact driver has plenty of torque: I used it to remove an automatic transmission from an S10 Chevy Blazer, and it performed flawlessly! I have 2 smaller batteries, 2 chargers and one Fat Pack battery. I will ABSOLUTELY buy Bosch 18V tools again!

Only problem is that their brushed tools are very power hungry. My 18V shopvac (GAS 18V-10L) eats an Ah in no time, and the power draw is so high that the battery is smoking hot when it runs dry. So hot that the charger won't start charging for at least a couple of minutes, even my active cooled rapid charger (AL 1860 cv). I did a sanding job not long ago, and my 2 chargers, one of them being the rapid charger, couldn't keep up, so I had to use 5 4Ah batteries to get the job done. That being said, that thing can suck harder than (insert random "yo mama" joke) until it is completely full! :)

Bosch Tools, bridge the gap between (your words) pro and expert. If you open up a Bosch and look at the guts, their quality revivals Hilti and Festool. The problem most have with Bosch is they are not like other bigbox store brands that claim the most power with brushless this and brushless that; instead they just engineer their tools to last day in and day out in the most demanding situations.

I've been using Bosch tools (I own a wide selection of Bosch tools) for around 8 years now after making the switch from DeWalt & I have found that I actually like Bosch far more than I ever did DeWalt (& I thought I really liked DeWalt before using Bosch). As an electrician, I see Fluke gets all the love in the trade (as far as testing equipment goes) but I made the switch to FLIR a couple years back & found FLIR to be another underrated (outside of their thermographic tools) tool company alongside AEMC/Chauvin Arnoux. As for standard tools I have come to like the wide selection of tools offered by Milwaukee but that by far isn't an underrated company.

Love my Bosch tools. Have both 18 and 12v systems. Even took the 12v drill and impact on a mission trip to Kentucky where we replaced a floor, joists and all 12v impact worked like a beast running wood screws. I was totally impressed with the performance.

Why is Bosch even on that list?!

Because you can’t buy their professional grade tools at the big box stores here in the US. And most people don’t know that, they think they’re buying the best Bosche has to offer but they aren’t. It’s the equivalent of the green Bosche tools in Europe.

I've been starting to collect Ryobi tools for about 3 years now. Mainly their brushed tools. And they are a great tool a little bit more expensive across the boarder from the US side. But they are great. I have not had a problem yet with them. and use them as a diyer/Apprentice. Besides being that lime green. (Not one of my favorite colors but oh hell what can you do. At least you can spot where they are at any given time with that color. I give them two thumbs up.

Here in Denmark, we have a brand called Power Craft. That brand, I have absolutely NO respect for. When I bought my house, I needed an impact drill and bought a Power Craft as money was running low. The gear box on it broke on first use. Swapped it for a 710W B&D that I still have 15 years later. In my infinite stupidity, I bought a 2. PC tool when I needed a router. I needed it for a dado in the poles for a fence. One of the handles broke fefore routing 3 feet. My dad had to use his circular saw to get the job finished (I was very green when it came to diy, and had *no* experience with a circular saw at the time). In general I don't trust any brand with buzzwords like power or super in the brand name...

@@HepauDK , Power Craft is absolute bottom scrape. BUT that is for a reason! These tools are soooo cheap that I could buy 5 of them for 1 decent tool. They are also sold in some dubious "bottom feeder" shops. Do they break? They say so. Weird thing is - never happened to me! I'm no proffessional, but I have used the hell and more out of a cheap Power Craft electrical planer. I also used the hell out of a cheap Ryobi cordless 12V drill (battery finally died after years of usage), a cheap B&D corded drill etc. I bought ridiculously priced Power Craft angle grinder for ONE job. Nothing more. I expected it to break. Nope, did not. Still (ab)using it quite often. Every time I think of the money saved, it brings a smile on my face:) The way I see it - overall quality of electrical tools has jumped up exponentially because technologies that used to be "cutting edge" some time ago are just so cheap to implement and copy. Just think how the bottom end of today was "high end" mere 10 years ago. But yeah, I agree, the feeling of frustration of a tool breaking during a project is 10/10 unpleasant. If I were a contractor, definitely would not like this feeling. It is also funny satisfaction to see a "cheap junk" keep working. And working. And working. It's hilarious really, becomes some kind of a sport: when will this damn thing break? Everybody says it should be dead 10x over. Nope, it keeps going! I have built enormous amount of projects with these cheap tools. Very embarrasing... Should I invest into "serious/manly/pro brand X" as the merketeers keep telling me? Dunno, I keep shrugging my shoulders:)

I liked this video a lot and stuff about these tool brands I didn't know of - great job!!!!

Nice job Nick I even have some ryobi Homeowner stuff and I've been a contractor for 40 years. Milwaukee, Bosch, Hilti Dewalt, Porter Cable, I have it all. You name it I've got it. They all serve their purpose. Great video appreciate it my brother

Had the Hercules drill, Non hammer drill. Loved that thing and the impact. The impact is one of the best I’ve used. The drill on the other hand was junk in under a year. The Jacobs chuck is shot on it now. It will not grip a bit well and either loosen up during use or rip ridges into the shank of the bit. Since then I have now moved to a Milwaukee brushless set and not looking back

Have 4 of the non xtr Kobalt brushless tools and really like them. Also have the Rigid 18ga brad nailer, it works great and no jams yet. Next purchase on the list is a Rigid shop vac! Thanks for the videos.

Great job Nick!! In Israel we don't have all the variety of power tools brands that you have but Bosch and Makita are very common in my country. I have few Bosch power tools ( the blue line pro line tools): circular saw, frick- gen 1, drill (18v) Brussels- 183, hammer drill D-20. I'm not a professional but i like to fix things and a weekend woodworker. Those tools are serving me well and I prefer to invest ones on good and reliable tools !!! Keep on doing what you do, keep on shouting you and Vince!!!

Bosch should not be on this list, bosch is one of the best brand on the market right next to Dewalt, bosch has very durable tools for DYI, PROs and industrial. Ok with Rigid on first place, that brand has very sturdy, durable and quality tools they are underestimated but not undervalued since Rigid is not cheap.

todopoderoso3 see, that’s the thing. Most people, especially people that work in industrial and commercial, hate Bosch. I don’t particularly like Bosch, mainly because they don’t have the durability and longevity to last in rough environments. If you’re a renovation builder or a HVAC technician Bosch is great. But if you’re out bashing houses or working on big supermarkets, Milwaukee or Dewalt is the way to go

@@samdelaney1134 I use mostly dewalt but I have the Bosch SDS and use it daily for years. its gotten wet countless times. I know quite a few people who use Bosch in a commercial line of work and they seem to hold up great. plus isnt Bosch like the top brand sold in Europe? im a dewalt fan boy and just dont want to own 2 battery platforms, but if I had to switch to Bosch I would not feel like I was downgrading at all. bosch is designed to run in wet or dusty environments... just check out concreteworld video. bosch is worth a second look. and their lasers are by far the best I have ever used.

Personal experience, my co-worker has a lot of Ryobi and we do roof repair. They work just fine. Cordless saw, nailer and blower. No issues 😊 However we both have a similar set of makita impact and drill drivers that we love as well. Go figure.

I’m just starting out in wood working, and I love the videos here. I wanted to know if the 7 1/4 corded cobalt is still good compared to the cordless. There’s quite a big price difference

Regardless of the brand you pick, I'd stay away from 7 1/4" miter saws. 10" is the sweet spot. With that, I'm extremely happy with my Ridgid 10".

I've been a Bosch convert for the last 18 months or so. Since it's been an underrated brand in North America, I've been able to score great deals on Home Depot and Ebay. The fact that I've been able to score the Freak 2, a Hammer Drill and a reciprocating saw with 3 batteries and charger for less than $400 is just hard to beat.

Ridgid octane hammer drill is my daily user had the Milwaukee gen 3 and Makita and it seems more powerful with the auger bits I use them for

I’m a fan of Kobalt tools. I especially like their hand tools. I also think Big Orange has some amazing vacs and air movers. I’ll definitely continue to buy them.

I got into the Ryobi line in January, been impressed so far.

Probably going to get a ton of laughs from this 😜👍.. all good though. I would love to see Craftsman's 20v tools. I picked up the impact and drill when they first showed up for $100 kit only to try out, accumulated a few extra batteries in the last couple years.. the 4ah batteries are awesome. I just saw they have a 6ah.. not sure about the cells. Anyway, definitely not as good or fast as other tools, but they do get it done. Recently picked up the multi tool, grinder (looks exactly like a Porter Cable) and the 6&1/2 circular saw (performs like the old cordless DeWalt on the ni cad batteries).. the price is awesome for them. Lots of ups and downs, but for the most part, these tools work great. Very few complaints as long as you have the right batteries to complete your work everyday.. been doing this for over 22 years.. NEVER did I think Craftsman work impress me

I have a 1998 ridgid leaf blower/wet dry vac that's been sucking up concrete and drywall dust for 20 years and it still works great!

Ive got Milwaukee tools, but my Ridgid tools have never failed to impress. Ridgid 18v lights are some of the best as well!

I have a Ryobi 4-stroke weed eater manufactured in the 90s that still works. Aside from routine maintenance, I have had to rebuild the carburetor once and replace the fuel lines a couple times. Not bad for 20+ years of service!

Love it! One of the best vids on here. 4 Real.

I like the Bosch wood router..they also have a decent mitre saw.

I swear by bosch, everything I have is bosch! Bosch is where I go for everything!

Bosch makes great windshield wipers. The best I have used in years.

Love my Kobalt XTR hammer drill/ drill / driver with the inertia kill switch. It's powerful fairly fast , and that kill switch is an incredible safety feature.

I have 2 favorite tool company ridgid and milwaukee I got the ridgid hammer drill brushless and i got the Milwaukee sawzall

just grabbed the hercules miter. Comparing it side by side with the a dewalt (old dw718, but still works great) It really is a great saw. Cuts accurately, has the same features as the dws780, comes with a decent blade and for $325. It's a great deal

@@ledivinrs I am no professional but I own both. Definitely look at more red when I go to Home Depot but my Dewalt has never let me down. There is just more flexibility with Milwaukee. One of the best decisions I have made is adding the M12 to complement my 20V Max Dewalt. M12 1/2" Stubby is hands down my favorite tool that I own.

I wonder if one day the sounds of different tools can be musically arranged and presented, with conductor Nick on the helm..

i love my kobalt tools but it feels bad when someone comes up to me and puts them down. without even trying them. but then relizes my tools outperform everyone

Just use what you like brother. Dont let people bother you, if they talk down about your tools. All my stuff is makita and i get some crap for it on the jobsite sometimes, but to me they are the best tools made and nobody will change my mind.

It's a perception thing... .when I compare the Kobalt to Ridgid, Milwak, Dewalt, Craftsman and damn near anybody else, while the Kobalts, for the most part, can keep up with the best of them, performance-wise, they just don't keep up with the whole "masculine" thing... Let;s face it... They just look kinda' gay... But, hey!... My wife likes them which does make it easier to "justify" the money spent :-).

Ryobi had a finish nailer on sale Black Friday week for 88$ w/2 pk of batteries for another 88$. Been great on the jobsite

@@seasgarage I think it's just to make it easier to find. I don't like the color personally. But when you see like reds for stopping at a stop sign or yellows for attention to something. I finger that the lime green is just easier to notice where you have a tool. Like like warning signs for the road or what they put on products to stand out from the rest.

I drove in some T25's in my deck bc the winter expansion made them pop out a little. I prob drove 30 screws. I ruined 3 hercules bits doing so. I was even using the screw function on the impact.

I run ridgid power tools and dont regret switching from dewalt! I use them as a pro and they hang in with my Milwaukee. And I dont get laughed at. Ryobi has come a long way since there blue and red day now they try harder than your hand

Picked up a Ridgid 18v brushless 7 1/4" circular saw with battery and charger for $179, everything guaranteed for life along with free replacement batteries. Saw cuts like a boss, so solid.

I'm a 23 yr apprentice. With all ridgid. Doing 4" lags into 4x8 timber fur. Dropped my impact in the lake 8-10' still performed as any impact after. 4amphr still works n charges just the light on the cell indicators dont work anymore.

Great review and summary of these tool companies.

I agree. My first choice is always Craftsman. I know many won’t agree but it has always treated me well. I even had a 19.2v set that came with a lot of pieces in a blow molded case that survived a deployment to Iraq nearly 12 years ago and is still kicking ass today with the exception of the nicad batteries I killed those but about 6 yrs ago I replaced my batteries with the lithium ions and several xcp and they still run like new and now I’ve finally had to replace a couple tools due to not being able to get replacement parts and the new v20 and v60 I’ve replaced them with are amazing in my opinion. My second is ryobi for things that are odd that I may only need once in awhile

Ryobi makes a dam good 4 cycle weed eater. 5yrs little maintenance and it's still starts with 3 pulls even after a long winter.

I think it is odd that you mention Ridgid in this list. I have several of their tools, and I just love them. Recently purchased their brushless circular saw and that this is beast of power that cuts beautifully clean. Also picked up their Contractor table saw recently. They must have some confidence in their tools with their lifetime service agreement. So far I have not had to use it on any of my Ridgid tools...next stop the Ridgid palm router. Unfortunately when I was a kid, Black and Decker and Craftsman were the tools to own. That is no longer the case.

You will love it! Fast, strong, compact, light weight, infinite speed adj from 17 -30K... I get PLENTY of run time out of the 3ah octane batts (I 3/8 rounded 150 bdft of still-wet PT 2x banisters/rails on my upstairs deck, in two passes, on one batt and still had 2 bars), the fence is well machined, dust/chip control is good, LED light is positioned well... The fine depth adjust is a bit tricky to get used to but once you dial yourself in to how it works, it's great... One more thing... The way Ridgid set up the on/off switch seems a bit awkward, again, at first... BUT there is practically NO way to turn it on accidentally.

@@srqtad Yeah, I have seen demos here on KZread and it looks really nice. I have the Bosch and Dewalt trim routers, but you can never have too many, and both of those are corded models.

This much I can say... walking up and down that flight of stairs, rounding 25' long banisters, for two passes each edge (8 trips up/down) without having to deal with a freakin' cord was almost fun.... The router would have done it in one pass each eadge but it was still fresh PT and had some knots so I took it a little easy.... Same for the deck railings so, really, it was 300 bdft. just not at full load.

In some ways Ridgid is two companies. The power tools are TTi's AEG power tools rebranded and they licensed Ridgid's name for North America. As a DIYer I like them as a step up from Ryobi (which is also TTi licensing the brand name) which is a great entry level brand. Fun facts for Black and Decker. As you say they use to be good but at one point they started to get a bad reputation as a non-professional level tool so they re-purposed the Dewalt brand (which they owned) as their new professional level tool brand while B&D is for the regular consumers. Craftsman use to be a great hand tool brand until hey start to cheap out on them and Sears started to go under... they are now also owned by B&D.

ok, this was not what i expected initially from title and it was awesome. All brands have specialties and advantages and the more i've learned (& trued), the less hater-ade i've been drinking. All of these brands have a purpose and have certain tools that are great and are unappreciated in certain ways, especially for some of the prices.

Very nice video ,, continue doing them.

I've got some Ryobis for home use and they've lasted for a decade. I've had a couple Dewalts for work that weren't heavily used.A couple of the Dewalts cracked their housings.

I bought a Rigid 1/4 sheet sander once and its clamp failed in the first hour I used it. Also bough a Ryobi belt sander once, it burned up the first day I had it. I do have a Ryobi Miter saw that is still running good after 13 years. But I just stick to DeWalt and Makita now.

I agree these companies make amazing tools

Ive had a Ridgid Wet/dry vac for over ten years. It really sucks... which in the case of a vaccuum is a good thing. Jokes aside, its a very good vac.

I have a 12 volt Porter - Cable cordless drill that I just love. I bought it back in September 2016 up here in Toronto Canada, when Lowe's decided to discontinue Porter - Cable's 12 volt cordless tools. I bought a two tool set, the drill (which is what I wanted) and a 12 volt impact driver. The whole deal was $ 100 ! I have never seen as h good a deal since. I sold the impact driver and now wish that I had kept it. What do you folks out thee think of Porter - Cable power tools ?

Speaking about I would like asking a favor. Make a presentation video about Bosch gsr 36 2_vli professional against the best cordless hilti, Milwaukee, Hitachi, makita our even the New dewalt998.

One of the best little tools I ever bought was for $10 from Klein it's a special magnatizing tool. It has a magnet and some holes built in it and you can run a screw driver or a bit or whatever you can fit thru one of the magnatizing holes and it will make it magnetic so it gives you the power to make any bit or screwdriver in your arsenal magnetic and it you want it regular again you just run it thru a different hole and it'll demagnetize it! Definitely worth the $10 I paid for it, sweet little tool!

I think ridgid's new octane line is actually pro. The normal brushless lacks power compared to octane, but the price cant be beat. I own both types, and the octane is pretty much milwaukee power, with ryobi prices.

Sparky here from Cali and I use bosch. Never seen another rocking bosch at any jobsite in my 12 years in the trade. May not have the speed of red and yellow but the few seconds difference don't really matter when time can be saved many other ways (work smarter?). They're durable, reliable and smooth hell. I still use my brushed set with the original batteries and would probably use them well into retirement

My dad is an electrician and carpender and he uses rigid tooles every day

I'm a professional mechanic and I'll tell you what, Ryobi has been a great cost effective option for me and It kicks some serious butt. Plus they can really take some punishment. I've dropped them, used them as a hammer and hand just been cruel to them and they just keep running. Now I'll admit they aren't quite as fast as a Milwaukee so sometimes I just have to hold down the trigger a little longer but I see it as it does 80% for 20% the price.

I used to be a ridgid fanboy then I had issues with them honoring their LSA and switched to ryobi. I’ve been really happy with Ryobi. Nice to see a dewalt shill praise ryobi. Great video!!

I own almost every brand on your list, quite a few Ryobi because of the batteries as you mention. Must say I agree with you 100%. Rigid, corded Hercules, and kobalt, all good for DIY. And I can but more of a variety work the money I save not button by DeWalt, Milwaukee, etc. I'll leave those fire the tradesmen.
