Ойын-сауық

This is the guy who jacked up the price on a life-saving drug and is depriving the world of (probably) great music, but also gives free courses in investing and chemistry on his KZread channel. Welcome to www.Watchmojo.com and today we'll be counting down 5 facts about Martin Shkreli, a complicated figure who in 2015 everyone on the internet was calling the most hated man in America.

I read he raised the price just for the companies and sold the pill to people for just $1 a pill and gave uninsured people the pills out of pocket. Then he used the huge profits from charging the companies that much to research more.

Because he hopefully will create a better alternative for toxoplasmosis so that those affected can live comfortably with their condition and everyone will realise how the media and political figures (such as all three of the major presidential candidates) will viciously victimize somebody if they are in a position to make themselves appear morally appealing or gain interest to the uneducated masses.

Here are the facts (that I got from this video): 1. The existing drug sucks. Shkreli wants to make a new, better one. 2. Shkreli's company needs money to do research on that. 3. Shkreli raises the existing, sucky drug's price so that he can make money for the research. 4. Insurance companies have to pay for that increase. 5. Patients are not paying for it, and they are still getting it. Some get it for free. Is this wrong?

So you would prefer places like the UK, where the NHS is draining billions and billions of pounds, yet it is struggling to even keep running because of all the people it is supporting. Or like in the Nordic countries where their tax rates can reach up to 70%. The US has a lot of flaws, but the Health Care System is not one of them. America is a capitalist country, where there is no safety net, but the sky is a limit, unlike in many other countries where the excellent are stifled to protect the average and below.

  • @skullypit

Naim, no... insurance companys are not allowed to raise your premium for ongoing issues. If you are a higher risk of something, your premium can be higher.. Like smoking or the older you get. On the contrary some of the things you may go in for MAY NOT be fully covered by your insurance company. Which is the issue people have, you pick a dodgy company that only covers... 75% of treatments but their monthly premium is lets say 10 bucks a month... where as another company may be 20 to 30 a month but cover 100%.

Well i didn't mention my beliefs, just an observation of people suddenly trusting sleazy businessmen in suits like Trump & Shkreli. Besides, you remind me of a christian saying "you seem confident that god doesn't exist, why not read the bible and test your belief?" Why get information from the horses mouth when you don't even believe in the horse?

Dan Maginnis You said you found it funny that people trust him, that absolutely is something you can go over in a discussion and draw better conclusions on. You can explain why you don't hear his side, and argue back and forth until you come to a conclusion (whether that is "yeah he's definitely full of shit" or "he's not full of shit" is irrelevant). You're claiming he is sleazy, and that is where I see bias, how do you *know* he's sleazy? Just as people believe he isn't, you believe he is. The reasoning why people do trust him is because they've listen to him explain his situation, and believe it is understandable. You, I assume, have also listened to him talk about it, and yet still remain unconvinced. That is a point to discuss, but the best available option would be to do it with Martin himself, considering he knows the subject matter better than anyone who supports him does. Comparing this to a religious discussion is really inaccurate. A religious discussion has only 1 claim, that there is a god (or gods), this discussion has 2, that Martin is trustworthy and not a bad guy, and that Martin should not be trusted.

GT8686 1.) I just explained that nobody has to pay any more money than they did before the price hike. They pay the same with insurance, and if they don't have insurance, they don't pay anything. 2.) Turing Pharma only has the rights to Daraprim in the U.S.. They aren't selling the product in any 3rd world countries. And I just explained, that if you have insurance you can get it for approximately the original price, and if you don't have insurance, the company will quite literally give you Daraprim for free. Do some research before you act like you know things.

If anyone who criticised him put some thought in to what he was doing, who was telling you the bad information about him and how the drug actually gets to the patient then people really wouldn't hate this guy so much and they could understand a lot of his actions. To be honest the politicians wanted him put away which should ring alarm bells at first, that means most of the medical industry probably wasn't happy about his choice which would usually make them look bad but luckily for them they had the media to villifacte him.

Martin is a pretty awesome guy...I'm pretty sure he has psychopathic tendencies, but that's not necessarily a bad thing in every case. Most of the worlds most successful CEO's are technically psychopaths. He's able to make calculated, precise decisions without the burden of feeling the emotional pressure from an uninformed (and media-manipulated) society. He's willing to be the bad guy in order to do some good. A few facts about this guy... 1) He doesn't take a salary from his company...even though he is quite wealthy, he invests the profits from this company into research. 2) This drug that he raised the price for is STILL much cheaper than similar drugs that treat the same thing. 3) This drug does not treat AIDS and Malaria patients. In fact, it can actually complicate Malaria, and is no longer recommended, as better drugs are available. This drug treats an extremely specific complication commonly found with AIDS victims, and not ALL AIDS victims....only a few thousand people need this drug. 4) If anyone can't afford, doesn't have access to, or doesn't have insurance, Martin's company will give this drug for free to those individuals, and as mentioned, over 60% of the drug is given away.

Im not seeing why this guy is being made out to be so evil.. Assuming everything in this video is accurate, then I can totally see where his logic is coming from. 1.Drug still remains very affordable for the majority of those whp need it. 2. Only insurance companies end up actually feeling the price increase. (honestly its about damn time someone made THEM pay) 3. Price increase now means new and better version of the drug sooner rather than later, since his company is devoting 60% of profits towards R&D for better drugs, (including other helpful drugs) far above what other companies are willing to commit. I understand that for those who need the drug and are now unable to obtain it, must feel very angry and agrivated, but our whole species seems to suffer from a serious lack of forethought and a willingness to make sacrifices now so that our future can be better. Im with this guy on the issue.

Problem with your second point. Do you know where insurance companies get their money? Hint: it doesn't just appear out of thin air. Every dollar they have to spend on a $750 pill (that should be $7) is a vital service that gets denied, is another premium increase, is another death to greed.

+1981bdt greed, greed, greed is all that is. I guarantee they have more than enough money. I did think of that possibility, but ultimately decided it was,a useless point since insurance companies are amongst the most corrupt in the world. So our rates are goin' up newayz, its just a matter of time.
