    I love that you also call the Mixolydian Pentatonic scale the "Jan Hammer scale" Chris Muenzner called it the same thing when I was a student with him a few years ago.

    Wither actually were written by John Petrucci(one of few DT musics that only one member worked on), he talked about the difficulty of starting a new piece of music from scratch.

    Wasn't wither written Petrucci in him trying to convey writers block. Portnoy announced his departure much later, he did say the video shows a lot of the band as being exhausted due to touring. By the way, love your videos.

    Another day and the overture 1928 solo. 1928 piece is so funky and very satisfying to play. A nice change of pace from the more neoclassical and death metal stuff I’m usually into!

You totally missed the last solo in Ministry of Lost Sould though, I would have loved to see that at #1. That solo is very melodic and has a lot of accurate bends which is difficult in its own way. Check it out and let me know what you think!

    I'm pretty surprised about the lack of Repentance and, first and foremost, Lines in the Sand (which also easily my favorite JP solo of all time). Good list nonetheless!

    Lines in the sand is pretty long to be an easy solo with a lot of more intermediate phrasing in it. Repentance tho is really quite easy, :)

    There are a ton of easier Petrucci solos like a change of seasons, learning to live, count of tuscany, octavarium outro, barstool warrior

  • @justin.hombach

    @justin.hombach

    2 ай бұрын

    I wouldn‘t call any of these „easy“ more intermediate. The length of some solos, the parsing, Octavarium has some pretty complex runs in the end etc. 😅 But they are the perfect intermediate solos

  • @jetsum

    @jetsum

    2 ай бұрын

    Agreed. Both the Count of Tuscany and Octavarium solos have complex runs mixed with easier phrases. In addition, especially the Octavarium solo, you have to get the bends and timing just right to get the original feeling - it's not just about replicating the notes.

    The last run of another day is a super tricky 2wps run that even Petrucci never got really clean. And getting the phrasing right is also quite difficult 😬 But Goodnight Kiss is a good example ;)
