The flight time is almost the same from NY to Costa Rica is around 4:40 hours. From NY to Belize is 4:30 hours.

Excellent Video and you have peaked my interest. I own in CR and have been to Belize so this was particularly important as I am contemplating a move. As far as your rental comparison, I don't agree with comparing Ambergris Caye with SJO even though you did indeed mention coastal rental markets in CR. Thanks for the analysis. Considering becoming a part-time resident of Belize. Thinking about driving a 22’ motorhome through Mexico to Belize. So I appreciated that too. For Baja there is a travel group that really knows what’s up (Vagabundos Del Mar) do you know if there is anything similar for Mexico + Central America?

You can’t compare Amber Key which is a vacation destination to a capital city like San José which is not a tourist destination.

What would a small, modest home cost on ambergris caye?

Great infro Will. My wife and I are researching retiring in Belize, and we're wanting to know about buying land there, and building a home there, and how expense is it to build a concrete home? Also, the safety factors are a concern for us considering that Belize is near Honduras, it would be great to see something on this. if you want to buy the land and build. . they do have modular andmodern prefab homes too (NOT manufactured!) as another optio . Cayo district is popular for retired americans. There is a 16 mile peninsula further south to explore too. . Placencia in southern Stann Creek district

Hey Mark, it would be possible you'd need to pick a location where cost of living is lower I recommend looking at the Cayo district

After seeing the news today on Bloomberg that Belize had to refinance 553 million in debt, something has to give in the way of taxes & real estate because tourism isn't going to pay off t hat debt, especially after Covid 19 & I've been told by a local on the mainland that as of October 2021, tourism still hasn't come back ? So, whats going to happen with all this government debt ?

Per capita a bit above 5000 dollars debt, in comparison in the EU every citizen has a debt of over 31000 dollars for 2021, for later I have no data but should not differ so much.

Here for 7 years, last year was a banner year the GOVERNMENT is doing GREAT, TOURISM IS ALMOST 50% OF THE ECONOMY. The Boom is on, new roads and a ton of new people from all over the world.

Will, in your comparison of Costa Rica vs. Belize you omit one very important metric. Health care. Any one considering retirement or moving to either location would rate accessibility to quality healthcare important. Also, try comparing Ambergris Caye and Manuel Antonio or Guanacaste regions of Costa Rica.

Compare coastal spots like Jaco, Quepos, Manual Antonio and Uvita for Costa Rica Will, where ex pats hang San Jose would be 80+% Costa Rican, I'd expect,it is a shocker of a place too

Many people have complained to me about the high inflation in CR, sounds like Belize is cheaper than them now, which is a big change. I am surprised by the unusually large visa fee. I look forward to a return when you get more applicable data from any CR coastal place rather than rarely visited San Jose.

Will the fee for renewal is now 200usa for an extra 30 days? It used to be 25 usa? That’s kind of expensive for a family to pay that for a year till they get the permanent residency.

You do not pay income tax on foreign income in Costa Rica. I am a long time permanent residentes of Costa Rica.

Wow, $200 to extend a tourist visa 30 days is a bit steep especially if you are traveling with a spouse or significant other. $4800 per year.

Do the locals really want Canadians relocating in Belize. My husband and I would love to retire in Belize and don't want to expose on the locals if they don't want us there. We have heard and seen videos on u tube. Are Canadians safe in Belize?

I am Canadian and I have never had any issues. Would say its significantly more welcoming than Costa Rica and I've personally lived in both

Will, as a Costa Rican resident , income generated outside of the country is tax free.

CR does not charge tax for permanent residents for income outside of CR...not sure why you got that wrong. Both countries are territorial tax countries.

In a tourism economy it is definitely a metric we value but you can pull the things you feel are important from the video and look at those!

I will get in touch in the future Will. I feel im ur biggest fan.. Ur videos are very comprehensive and informative.. I was going to drive down.. But like u.. I love my dog and it seems quite tough to get ur dog down without flying. Also u have the Dodge the cartel in south mexico.. Then if u mk it u have to buy insurance at the border to cross into central America.. I want to be down there and investing. I just don't want to come without my truck. Yes I realize only golf carts on the island. But wanted to be able to go see the Mayan ruins. And do other things. Instead I bought a house in Tennessee mountains. Compare Belize to Jamaica

It's also easy to obtain work permit in Costa Rica if you are a skilled worker or are going to invest in the country... Costa rica has free trade with most of the developed world. San José is not top for rentals. Tourists usually skip San jose and don't stay there

Good information but the comparison of Ambergris Caye and San Jose is not apples to apples. San Jose would be like Belmopan. Those are the business & government centers. Ambergris Caye and the Guanacaste region would be more similar.
