We have many new recommendations. Watch our new "Top 5 Budget Cams 2020" video: • Top 5 Budget Dash Cams... We've also updated our picks below.

OUR PICKS & WHERE TO GET THEM
In 2016 we received the Viofo A119 from the manufacturer and the A118C and G1W from Spy-Tec for free. We got a volume discount for buying many cameras from eStore009 Other cameras used were purchased at full retail price. Since 2017 I've purchased all dash cams and accessories at full retail price. I've never been directly paid for a review by a manufacturer or retailer. When you buy using links below, I may earn an affiliate commission.
1️⃣ VIOFO A119V3 - $110 | Best Budget Camera
The 2019 upgrade to the A119 we reviewed. It has better night quality, parking mode and all the issues with the older model have been fixed.

    Hey Adam I might go with patreon in the future, I want to refine a few things first. The affiliate links in each video you can use to buy things and I get a percentage of the sales. That's the biggest help for me. Thanks for the feedback! -Andrew

    So glad I got the T3 last year. Been running two of them front and rear for 9 months and I can tell you parking mode works very well. The motion activation works extremely well. The video starts before you even see anything come across the camera. I also use a battery backup. The Anypower T plus battery backup is awesome and I've ran both camera for 2 days in parking mode. It's a lot more inexpensive than the other more talked about cell link b. My whole setup for both cameras and battery back up is only $350

    If I use a "Add a Fuse" and wire it into the fuse box to a fuse that is always on (In other words if I have the camera running always even when the car is off) will it drain my battery over night?

    Also I went with the Goluk T3 and I like it a lot. Being able to access the video right through the App on my iPhone is very simple and convenient. I'd like to get it hard wired into the fuse box so it's always recording for the least amount of money. And obviously I don't want a dead car battery in the morning! Any tips would be so helpful. I'll be hard wiring the Goluk into a 2014 Kia Soul.

    Update: I purchased a "Kimdrox 3A/15W Dual Power Adapter 12V to 5V double USB cable Connector" and a "Add a Fuse." Am I headed in the right direction? Also I find is so odd that Americans are not on top of this dash cam situation as much as so many other countries. I don't think any of the material I've researched had been USA based.

    Hey Aaron, there's not cutoff on that device as you mentioned. I'm a fan of the add a fuse plus a voltage cutoff device like the Vico Power-Plus or the Multi Safer. I made a much longer article here which includes parts and some videos on installation: www.carcamcentral.com/guide/guide-parked-recording-dash-cameras Sorry about the late reply, KZread does not make it easy to find out when someone posts a response.

  • @Lam

    @Lam

    7 жыл бұрын

    The filter is out! Shoot I knew I forgot to mention something in the video. Here's what I wrote in the description of the A119 review. POLARIZER The official polarizer has been released which clips onto your lens to reduce glare from your windshield. Unfortunately for the A119 this will prevent your lens from moving side to side. As well as it lacks the detent slot found on the A118CV2 so it's recommend to use blu-tack or tape to make sure it doesn't slip off. Amazon USA: bit.ly/A119_CPL_ClipOn_Amazon BlueSkySea Version There's another version which uses adhesive to stick the polarizer onto your lens which allows for movement but it doesn't allow you to pull it off and retatch it. Amazon USA: bit.ly/A119_CPL_Glue_Amazon eBay: bit.ly/A119_CPL_Glue_eBay These CPLs are just released so we'll keep you updated on their performance. See the ongoing discussion at DashCamTalk: bit.ly/A119_CPL_DashCamTalk

    I bought the Viofo A119 after watching this and many other reviews. NOTHING but trouble from day 1. First the hardwire cable didn't work correctly. After replacement, that worked. Next, the brand new SanDisk SD card got corrupted and stopped working no matter how I formatted it (tried via dashcam, Linux, Windows, deleting the partitions, different file systems - nada). New SD card in place. Then it turns out there is a bad connection between the GPS bracket and the camera so suddenly it would go into a loop turning on/off/on/off with a beep sound in between. This could explain the corrupted SD card. Doing some research online shows lots of people have this problem with the GPS bracket. I added a piece of tape to the bracket to make the connection tighter. Seemed to work for a few days, but one day I noticed the screen flickering. Well, might just be magnetic interference or crap quality screen I figured. Now the camera doesn't record anymore. It turns on, but no recording. Buttons beep when pressed, but nothing happens. The timestamp counts 2 seconds after turning on, then freezes. Resetting will make the unit restart, but with the same problem. Well, I guess it's time for me to have some fun with this infamous Viofo support service. Thank you for your terrible recommendation.

  • @Lam

    @Lam

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hey Senseipt, sorry you had such an issue with the camera. Yes, Viofo's service is terrible. I try to point people towards third-party resellers who I know are solid (OCD Tronic, BlackBoxMyCar and Capture Your Action). All three received new GPS mounts which fixed the issues with the older pin mounts and shipped them out for free. The problems with the old camera are definitely well documented and we should have pushed out a video letting people know about the update. We'll do better in the future. -Andrew

    Great video! Really helpful for my search for my next dash cam. I wish your video was available before I bought the last 4 dashcams that are now junk. I see the A119 with and without the GPS module. Is the GPS worth it if I don't use the GPS Viewer software? In other words, what are the benefits of GPS outside of being able to view it with the GPS Viewer?

  • @Lam

    @Lam

    7 жыл бұрын

    Hi Stephan, thanks! I think GPS isn't useful for most people, courts aren't likely to accept it for speeding tickets unless you have an expert witness. Tracking teenage drivers and company assets, maybe. The quick release function is useful. If you don't need that, save the $10.

    Car Cam Central, Thanks for all your amazing reviews. Can you please share your thoughts on YI vs VantrueN2?

  • @Lam

    @Lam

    7 жыл бұрын

    Hello Samir. The Vantrue N2 is meant to be a taxi camera but fails at its intended purpose. At night you can’t see passengers as the N2 lacks infrared lights. If you’re looking to use this as a cheap rear camera you often won’t be able to see anything out the windshield. It has nice design, the rubberized body and matte dark grey texture is quite appealing. Vantrue also provides good customer support. The Yi dash cam is the cheapest Wi-Fi camera we recommend. The fact that it uses battery instead of a capacitor is a drawback, but we haven’t noticed any thermal issues yet and at $60 it is a great value pick. The Yi dash cam is our value pick over Vantrue N2 by a mile. Rolands - Community Support

    Great videos I watched your top budget cams of 2017 and Im going to buy either the a119s or the cheaper version depending on how much i can get in in UK, i also watched your video on dash memory cards which ill also be buying the transcendent card. Not many in depth reviews like these on dash cams and they are a device that get used a lot and cant fail and so its important people buy dash cams with the best advice taken on board.

    Hey Andrew , great channel, very informative . What would you suggest as far as a camera for night driving mostly on country roads with little to no street lights or traffic? My main concern are deer standing on the side of the road . I have a Garmin 20 now , but am leaning towards the A119 . Thanks

  • @Lam

    @Lam

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hey. Thanks. Well, the A119 V2 is the better camera, but if night vision is super important you might consider going for the A119S V2, just because it has a better sensor purely for night vision. The A119V2 is good too though and records better quality videos at 1440p compared to the A119S at 1080p. In most cases, I think the A119V2 should be good enough for night driving. -Rolands

    Andrew, great reviews, thanks so much. I hope you can help me with your top pick for around $120 or less that will swivel for police encounters or interesting side events. Might there be another mounting option possible for the A119?

  • @Lam

    @Lam

    7 жыл бұрын

    Hey Mister. Your best bet in this price range is The $60 Yi dash cam. It is a great value pick and even though it uses a battery instead of a capacitor we haven’t experienced much reliability issues. It rotates 360 degrees which will come in handy to record police encounters or what’s happening on the side of the vehicle. The Viofo A119 offers you two types of mounts - suction and adhesive. We recommend the adhesive one, as it is stronger and more stable. Rolands - Community Support
