👀 So, what's our criteria for finding the best clumping cat litters?
The following criteria were developed in consultation with veterinarian Megan Teiber and cat behaviorist Nicole Van Andel:
Tracking - How much litter ends up outside the litter box, and how far from the litter box it can get.
Dust - How dusty the litter is. This factor is very important for cats and people with respiratory issues.
Scent - Unscented is always preferable. Cats rely heavily on their sense of smell to interact with their surroundings, so strongly scented litter can be overwhelming.
Ease of cleaning - How well the litter clumps and coats solid waste, how flushable it is, and how much it sticks to the litter box.
Odor control - How well the litter neutralizes smells. Controlling urine smell is the key here, because no litter can truly neutralize the smell of solid waste. Keep in mind that odor control partially depends on individual cats and the strength of their urine odor.
Health and safety - The fewer additives the better. This includes scents, preservatives, and colors. We consider all of the tofu litters on this list safer than clay.
Ease of handling - How easy the litter is to transport, pour, and handle.

I've used Tuft and Paw's tofu litter, bought it to prevent tracking but the cats tossed it everywhere nonetheless - it's very expensive for what it is

Strange! Nearly all reviews of Really Great Cat Litter mention how little it tracks. Do your cats like to dig aggressively when doing their business? A high-sided litter box could really help with this

@tuftandpaw My litter box is completely enclosed - I would find the pellets scattered everywhere outside of the box which was problematic since they are more easily crushed due to the composition.
There are much more affordable options. Also, there are many channels out there that give you an unbiased review of said options.
Petkit has a mixed litter. You get the reduces tracking of tofu but still get decent clumps with the 30% clay. Id say it has mild-moderate dust. If you get the four pack (each bag has 8Ibs) and wait for a sale which is fairly often ($41), you can get it at $1.25 a pound. I will order every time they have a sale and just keep a good stock of it.
Why are more and more reviews of litter prices by per pound instead of by bag/box? Just curious, I've noticed this in more recent KZread reviews of cat litter. It seems easier to check out the bag price that most stores use. Thank yyou
I use tofu litter, many different brands, the one problem I have is they can turn to a paste and it sticks to my cats paws. Some of these litters have scents and ingredients that can still be toxic to cats. Considering they can ingest that, it’s very concerning. Not all post the ingredients list on the bag. Be very careful!
LOL at the fact you put your own litter at the top and expect people to think this review is legit.

totally normal! you should only flush your cat’s litter if they’re strictly indoors, not fed a raw diet, and your local regulations allow. also you need to be sure that your litter is 100% flushable. everyone finds their own cleaning preferences :)
