All amphibians are awesome! Frogs seem to be a fan favorite for many obvious reasons. As far as pet amphibians go, few are as popular as frogs of different species. But the best frog species can be hard to decide. Could the best pet frog be The colourful and beautiful Pacman Frog? With is round body and amazing facial features? Maybe you're better suited to the similar Spadefoot Toad. A great option with many sub species of this toad to choose from. Oh yeah, did we mention that all toads are frogs, but not all frogs are toads? Toadally awesome right!? Tree frogs are amazing also and one of the largest out there is the White's Tree Frog. Sometimes called the Dumpy Tree Frog or the Australian Tree Frog. Regardless of what you call them, the White's Tree Frog has some amazing features and characteristics! African Dwarf Frogs for sure can not be overlooked! Full aquatic frogs that move slow but in funny ways are super fun to watch! Plus, you can cohabitate these frogs with fish of many species. Of course we have to talk about Dart Frogs. Poison Dart Frogs are amazingly colorful, bright and vibrant with over 100 species of Poisonous Dart Frogs to choose from, there may just yet be one for you! What is your favorite species of frog?

  • @The-Opium-Den

    @The-Opium-Den

    Apparently, it's the beetles they eat in the wild that are poisonous. By eating these they accumulate more of this poison in their bodies. It's sort of like how Monarch caterpillars eat Milkweed plants to build a store of poison in their own bodies. If you have the ability to care for some go for it! I used to volunteer at the Humane Society of Canada and they had two tanks to house Poison Dart Frogs in their office. It certainly was enjoyable to watch the little guys hop about and eat fruit flies covered in calcium powder.

    I kept hearing a strange noise at night from around my aquarium. I searched high an low for what was making that sound. Ifk how many weeks past before I figured out it was coming from inside my aquarium. The male African dwarf frog has a mating song. I used to tease my daughter who would stay over on my couch when she was away from college. That he thought she was cute and was singing to her. It's not loud so it has to be quite to hear. Guess thats why I'd notice it at night. Really an awesome little frog.

I wish toads were easier to find captive bred because I think American toads and those similar cousins (great plains toad, woodhouse toad, gulf coast toad, western toad, etc) make great pets.     Another frog species I would recommend getting for keepers who like more lively frogs is actually one of the most common species of frogs in North America! The grey treefrog is super lively and has tons of personality. I got mine in September and I'm so happy I took her in! She loves to jump around and she sits on the rim of the tank lid as I pick out crickets to feed her. She likes to sit out in the open and loves attention (She doesn't like to be picked up, though. Attention as in she likes it when you feed her or work on her tank. She likes company as long as she isn't touched.). Grey treefrogs' colors can range from greens to greys and they're just wonderful frogs to keep! I highly recommend them to first time keepers or people who like active frogs. :}
