Top 5 B Bender Riffs in Rock Songs

Only for country players???? I don't think so. I'll talk a little about how the B Bender was invented, how a few models work, and then countdown and playthrough some of the songs by rock bands that got me interested in the B Bender.

Just to clear things up, Clarence White was the guitarist & Gene Parsons was the drummer for the Byrds. Parsons is also a machinists, it was Clarence White who was playing & Parsons doing the bending. Marty Stuart is my favorite! Bend On!!!

I have always wished that the Byrds with Clarence White would have done a note-for-note version of 'Eight Miles High' with Clarence White doing sitar stuff on his B-Bender. Very possible as it only takes a move from Gmajor to Emin, with the same phrases. Roger and Clarence trading off licks, and yet staying true to the 'lighting in a bottle' of the studio version.

Question: Can a B-Bender guitar be set up to lower instead of raise a note on the B string by spooling the bridge end of the string in the counter direction...? I'm thinking of setting up a Telecaster for slide playing in open 'G' tuning [ D - G - D - G - B - D ] and if I can have it so that by tugging on the strap lever the B string note goes flat (not sharp) by one semi-tone I will have my minor chord with my slider. Please answer.

Original B Benders could only be done by major surgery on a Tele, first done by the Byrds, I believe, also big with Brad Paisley. I found an easier way, and also able to ADD the G string. I bought a Certano G&B Bender, and had it installed on a Squier Tele I bought specifically for the Certano install, as I didn't know how much used I'd get out of it. And Wah-LAH, a great purchase from a customer service based David Certano, owner of the CO. Had a local Luthier install it. At this point, I am taking it to my main Luthier this WED because the tuner machines were defective, imagine that on a $600 Fender!, to have those replaced, and also have the two levers lowered a bit, as I think they are too high by the original installer. Check it out. Thank YOU!

Marty moved one of the banjo tuning pegs to a different string. I spoke to him after a show in Modesto, several years ago and asked him what the plunger below the bridge did. He said it drops the high E string . I don’t know if he put it in , or Clarence White did. He got it from Clarence’s widow. Marty is so smooth with that B bender, it’s like a part of him. When so many others use the B bender they just sound like they got a new toy. But Marty is the master!🎸

I'm gonna be honest. Once I learned that a B-Bender was used on "Unforgiven 2," I went to KZread to see it actually demonstrated. Of course, to my frustration there's countless videos proudly displaying "NO B-BENDER" in the title like I'm supposed to be impressed your rendition sounds mediocre or in some instances - flat out bad. Why bother if it's just you playing along to the recording if you can't match the lick? So I was very happy to witness it finally demonstrated properly because it's a very distinct and cool sound.

You got your names backwards. Parsons is the one who invented it. At Whites request

I don’t think you got your story correct.. you swapped Gene Parsons and Clarence White.. Clarence was the the guitar player,Gene was the genius behind the b bender..

BS - Clarence wasn't the first to come up with the idea and Parsons wasn't the first to invent it. Do some research before you make a statement like that.

You have it backwards - White was the guitar player; Parsons the drummer/machinist. And it's Bob Warford not "Woodford". Might help to do just a little research before posting this stuff. The history is easily available. And getting players' names wrong is just - sloppy.
