Honestly, I have used Seafoam three times 200 miles before an oil change. This last time I did an oil change, I did not use Seafoam. Instead, I bought an engine flush solution from an auto parts store. I had never done it before, so I simply just followed the directions on the bottle (dump the whole bottle in the crankcase and run the engine for 10 minutes, then change the oil). When I changed the oil, I noticed just how much grit and carbon and other junk was in the oil (not present after using the Seafoam). I love Seafoam as a fuel system and intake cleaner, but I would definitely say that an engine flush is WAY more effective than just using seafoam (and it is also about half the price of a bottle of Seafoam).

The problem with doing that is, that there are many small oil passageways in an automotive engine, some of them less than 1/8th of an inch in diameter. If you suddenly release all the gunk that has accumulated in your motor these passageways can get clogged and even cause catastrophic engine failure.

You're actually supposed to add it to a mostly empty tank, and then fill up with gas, per the directions. It doesn't really hurt to have more seafoam, but its meant more to slowly clean the Fuel system than all at once. I like to get 2 cans, suck a bit of one through a vacuum like, dump some into the oil, and add the rest of the can (usually less than half) into a gas tank that's about 1/4 to 1/2 full, run until I'm getting low, usually 100-200 miles, then change the oil. I'll then go to the gas station, dump a full can into the tank and fill it up. I run full synthetic oil and prefer to change it every 5k miles, but sometimes I let it go towards the 10k mile mark, and I like to give it the full seafoam treatment every 15-20k miles, as well as adding a can once a month to the gas tank. I've had had and sold cars that were still running good at 150k-300k miles. Might be other problems with them, but at least the engine and fuel system were in good shape. It is possible, if the engine wasn't taken care of, that the seafoam in the oil can remove some buildup and reveal a small leak.

Seafoam is old school - use the gumout or similar stuff with PEA (polyetheramine) - it is WAY MORE effective from my humble experience - then use the techroline gas additive Religiously for the next 5,000 miles from Chevron or Texaco.......... good stuff : P. you'll be glad you did.......you can get a case of each = 6 and 6 from Amazon for $100..........sweet.

You haven't lived until you have hooked up a can of the pour version to a vacuum intake and smoke out a parking lot. In the older vehicles we used to pull the PCV valve hose and let it pull from there. Fun times!

I love how clean your m3 is (e36?). That is a bit of a dream car of mine. 2 years into my career I had an opportunity to buy a very slightly used E36, or a very slightly used 968. I went with the 968, and I don't regret it. I wish I still had that car. But I also wish I had gotten E36. I'm going to look through your videos and see, did you find this car this clean? Or did you go through a restoration process? Honestly at this point I would consider buying an E36, but their prices have gotten insane. So I'm actually thinking about getting another 968, and then turning it into a modern monster. It wouldn't be restoration, it would be a sleeper. Looks like an old car, but it's hiding an LT6, lol. I raced the 968 back in the day, I got the goodie out of the car. I was working for gillet at the time, they made the exhaust for Porsche, BMW, Audi, BMW basically all the German Auto makes. So I did kind of make use of our prototyping and dyno facilities "after hours." Thought about throwing on a turbo, but that was such a different rabbit hole with so many more variables and complexity that I chose to stick with NA. Not to mention the internals weren't designed for that. Just thinking about it's making me nostalgic. You should look into a 968. Six-speed, 3L 4-cylinder. Big honkin four. Stock I think it was making about 230 at the crank, a bit under 200 at the wheels. Not much in today's terms. But no electronic nannies to keep you safe other than ABS. But working with the guys in Edenkoben, we got it to 270 at the wheels with simple mods. Funny story, we were prototyping the exhaust for the new 996 & the Porsche engineers worked with the edenkoben guys to Frankenstein a 964 with the 996 turbo motor. Roughly 400 hp in a chassis designed to take 250-300 at most. And 964s were known to be squirrelly before you double the hp. Not to mention they hadn't really smoothed out the tune on the engine yet, so all of the power showed up around 4000 rpm & up. We got to take it to Nuremberg for "testing" (don't crash, don't die). Being 25 and all stones no brains I pushed it a bit. Like riding a lion made of jello & teeth. Hang on for dear life & remember always more throttle. Would have been quick if I could have kept it pointing vaguely in the direction I was trying to go.

nicely done I recently bought a car that has over 200,000 miles plus on it I used can in my fuel tank I definitely seen the results in performance and gas mileage what I did wait till my gas was almost empty put some fresh gas in little bit of seafoam drover for a while and then did it again s*** work great but I definitely wouldn't put it in my oil and I did hear turbo engines it's no good but I'm no expert I definitely do some more research for which I think sucks because they're more acceptable for heat damaged that's why they stop giving him to the cops I'm definitely going to use the spray for the upper manifold and burn off some that carbon which I know needs it and I'm pretty confident it won't blast off massive chunks of carbon in destroy my engine but I think that's all I'll do is he upper manifold with the spray and then just use the stuff in the gas tank cuz I already had good results with that oh my God.

The smoke makes you think you’re doing something but it really doesn’t do much of anything but potentially damage your catalytic converter. I’d use it in the gas tank and that’s it. Regular oil changes is what cleans your crankcase. Solvent type oil additives or flushes can be risky for a engine that’s already dirty from lack of maintenance. If too much of that crud comes off at once it can cause major problems.
