In late 90s and early 2000s, umpires had the habit of giving every delivery bowled by left arm bowlers from round the wicket as not out when it was LBW. Real dark ages for left arm bowlers.

It was out, the ball swung twice, first it swung in, then at the very last second, swung away to trap the batsman plumb, the umpire didn't see the late last second swing which is why he gave it not out

Where the fuck was the 'late' swing in the first delivery ? It was a straight one and Raina played all around it. The king of late swing ( Waqar Younis ) is up and beyond these 3 deliveries anyway. Absolute gem of a delivery by Wasim though, that was the REAL ball of the century for me.

Sainandan Ramakrishnan the first ball wasn't straight, it wasn't late swing to be fair but it was one hell of an off cutter, it turned from about 2 feet outside off to off stump.

Wasim Akram was by far the best...Whenever,India used to play against Pakistan during my childhood,i used to hide whenever Wasim,Waqar used to bowl.I was sure that our team will lose.The talent is these guys never used to depend on pitches or conditions for their art.Golden period of fast bowling..👌👌👌👌

The last one would have hit the base of the middle stump. Such a bad piece of umpiring!!!

Anderson bowled another almost identical, but probably slightly better ball to Brendon McCullum in the same innings

Mustafizur delivery was left arm off spin master of late swing kingbof swing md Asif and waqar younis although they are are Pakistani cricketer they had magic of swing with a. Bullet lodger sohaib akhtar would have been great if they would have come above terror srilankan bus firing is unpleasant memory .

The ball that Anderson got M Vijay with in the first innings of the most recent Lords Test was much like #2 here but possibly even better. Batsmen must feel like the ball has actually teleported through their bat against balls like that.

James Anderson's bowl to Kraigg Brathwaite when they toured West Indies in 2015 was by far the best late swinging bowl i've ever seen.

Swing is literally when the trajectory of the ball changes while it is in the air. It works on pretty much the same principle as an aeroplane wing. Seam is when the raised seam of the ball hits the pitch and the ball deviates because the seam is not perfectly round like the rest of the ball. When the ball swings, its path from the bowler's hand to the pitch is curved and then it will carry on in a straight line from that point of contact. Seam is when the path from the bowler's hand to the pitch is straight and then the path from the pitch is not in the same straight line. If you put the two together, as Anderson often can with the Dukes ball in England, and the ball becomes doubly unplayable.

You're correct about the first not swinging but the second absolutely did swing. There may have been some seam there too but it absolutely swung.

The Akram one was amazing - in the umpire's defence I don't think he could have seen and judged that amount of swing in real time at Akram's pace.

It was a similar delivery that Andrew Flintoff bowled at J Kalilis a few years after Freddie’s peak but when he could still produce the odd spell of tremendous swinging pace. There was just too much happened in a short time for Aleem Dar to give it out but on a review, stone dead
