When it comes to jigs I like a very light power rod but I like very fast action. I think it casts nicer ( I throw a lot of jigs that are 1/64 and some smaller) and it helps with sensitivity. Between fast action and braid I can feel every single thing happening at the end of the line. Even if I'm throwing 1/2 oz jigs I like fast action.

I've used other floats and they're fine. But I decided to buy some of the nicer trout series addicted floats for drifting in my local river. The way they sit in the water is noticeably better than the cheaper floats I've always used. They cast nicely from the weight, and seem to have a more neutral-feeling buoyancy that makes it really easy to detect bites. My first outing with one of them was a few days ago and I hooked into a really nice brown with a trout magnet under the addicted float.

For someone just returning to fishing after 30+ years. What's the difference in a bumper and leader? Also, in your spinner setup, you mention using a 20lb braided with a 8lb mono 'because it likes to sink down (at 1:54).' I thought mono floated and fluoro sinks. Just a bit confused.

You missed one of the best trout lures for streams. Smaller Flatfish lures are GREAT for stocked trout, especially in streams. Depending on the size of the trout that you are expecting, size F4 is for smaller trout and size F5 for bigger ones. In clear water I like a subdued color pattern like Perch Scale. In muddy water I like the brighter color patterns. If the water is really stained even a hot pink color works. I adjust the lure depth with split shot added about 18 inches ahead of the lure. Crank the lure very slow, just fast enough to give the lure that appetizing wobble. For Eastern Steelies (Tribs from Lake Michigan and Lake Erie) I use a size 7 Flatfish and usually out fish the guys using bait or flies. The lures aren't great in really fast water, but work well every place else.

Question. If I put a long bumper and use a small swivel, I notice it gets caught in the hoops of the rod. Would a blod knot prevent that?

No love for Joe's flies or even blue foxes?! 😢 Jordan you gotta get onto the joes flies. It's a spinner, with a tied fly in place of a hook. They make them in sizes from unweighted, just a fly, a tiny bit of wire, and a spinner blade, a 1/24 oz, 1/16 oz, 1/8 oz, and 1/4 oz with either gold colored or silver colored wire and spinner blade respectively. They are killers.
