2012 F350 Super Duty Crew Cab Long Bed I want to share my experience with everyone stepping into the “death wobble” game. I have been driving Chevys for the last 30 years, so I was a stranger to the death wobble issue that Fords are plagued with. I bought the truck used at a Ford dealer in October of 2020. It was in very good cosmetic shape and what seemed to be good engine and transmission condition. It had 185,000 miles on it. The tires were all new as well. In the first month, I had some serious vibration issues coming from the front left tire. Ford had used a third party to install this set of tires, so I went to the installer to have them checked. Clearly, the front left tire had a ‘rise’ on it. Even though the business acknowledged it, they refused to warranty it - and they only had about 100 miles on them. I had the tire put on the rear to get the vibration out of the front end. Fast forward to November of 2021 - This was the first time I had a death wobble on the truck. I thought it was a flat tire. It did it twice on the trip and I was perplexed because I couldn’t find any issue that would merit such a horrible gyration. After that day, it was intermittent and random. But as the months passed, it became more frequent. After having pull this stunt in big city traffic on overhead freeways, I knew something had to be done. I took it to an old school wheel alignment shop that I have been using for years. They were very familiar with the issue and kept a stock of the necessary Ford OEM parts to replace everything with. However, it did not fix the issue. After a couple of months, I purchased the SuperLift Dual Steering Stabilizer kit and the required 3-inch leveler (I found mine on AmericanTrucks.com) with Bilstein Shocks for the front. I took the truck to a local diesel mechanic, and he swore that the stabilizer kit would do nothing for the death wobble. He pointed out some parts he believed to have play in them and guaranteed me that replacing those would fix it. He was wrong. I did not have him put the kit on afterwards. I took the truck home and decided to do the work myself. I wanted to put in the shocks first and test it to see if that alleviated the issue before putting on the stabilizer kit. On removing the stock shocks, the left one was clearly shot and the right one was right behind it. I put the leveler kit on installed the new shocks with a new trackbar bracket to compensate for the added height. I had it realigned, and the problem was worse than before. I then installed the SuperLift Dual Steering Stabilizer kit and the issue stopped. I have taken it over bad spot I know that would throw it into convulsions before and it never went into the wobble. Therefore, for me, the stabilizer kit did fix the issue. There is no doubt for me that the tires are a part of the issue. But eating another $2,000 bucks to replace tires that have 10,000 miles on them is quite unattractive. For now, this will carry me to the point when I’m ready to purchase a new set. This has been my experience with the whole issue - not just conjecture. I hope it helps someone else trying to fix this idiotic setup by Ford.

Solid video, just one comment for others. Cody made a point toward the end about a steering stabilizer "fixing" death wobble and commented how it's true and false. Replacing a steering stabilizer when you have death wobble will help mask the wobble only if the wobble isn't severe and only until the wobble wears out the stabilizer. Even if you wobble isn't bad the longer you run around with it the more it's going to bear up that steering stabilizer among other things until you address the problem. On a JK I used to own I went through 3 different steering stabilizers in under a year due to the issue. It wasn't until I tracked down the root problem and from that day on never had an issue with it.

Yep. Jeeps are good for worn track bar bushings, which allow the whole axle to shift, side-to-side, and starts death wobble.

  • @603Cummins

@@kenroot5682 My issue was actually a relatively known issue of the incorrect size of bolt going through the track bar mount. I don't know how many years but apparently jeep has used a metric bolt with a SAE hole which when lifted with larger tires caused the mount to ovalize. Installing a synergy track bar brace solved my issue there but I was mainly bringing it up to let others know that you'll continue to wear out shocks for your stabilizer if you don't correct the core problem.

HELP PLEASE!! I'm SO confused! I just bought a jeep wrangler, it has a little bit of a lift, heavy rims and tires (35's). It also has a dual shock steering stabilizer set up (nothing fancy). I was told by a well known Jeep modification shop they were a bad idea and I should take them off and go with a simple Stabilizer bar. I am reading so many different takes on this. I will never off-road in this Wrangler, I just want it to be as safe as possible, track a straight line, and handle paved curvy roads. So far this video seems like the best educated take on this. Just to be sure though,...You say take them off and go with a single bar?????? THANKS for any help!

It depends on the exact truck and steering configuration. Essentially Carli has a high mount that attaches to the drag link, and a low mount that goes to the tie rod. Both are oriented in different directions to harness the native pushing power of a nitrogen charged damper. You’ll want to choose a stabilizer that pushes in the opposite direction your tires pull. If you choose to run both the high and low mount, you can adjust them to work together to keep your truck tracking straight, and to damp feedback into your steering from the road. Having a stabilizer on the drag link and tie rod is a much more effective way to damp steering than having duals that are both on the tie rod.

  • @CJCOffRoad

A true dual (one on the drag link and one on the tie rod) stabilizer set up is ALWAYS the preferred route over having two on the tie rod like most of the dual kits on the market. For trucks getting driven off road hard we recommend both, but for a daily driver you only need one. We recommend the low mount for Fords with Toyo MT tires and the high mount for everything else!
