I won't lie...I did. :D I'll tell you one thing though, there's no f**king way you could get a Monaro for only 8000 pounds. Unless the brand is really worth shit in the UK, you couldn't get one over here in the NZ/Aussie region for under $60,000 today.

Trent, you may be able to source one here in New Zealand as they are still quite common here. The only problem you might have is converting it to left hand drive as they're all right hand drive. but we still have CV8's, CV6's GTS's and GTO's, and there is also an all wheel drive version called the Coupe' 4, but good luck finding one of theses as there were only 50 of these made and I've never actually seen one.

I was thinking ... Wow that sure sounds, looks, and acts like a GTO. Gotta love that LS power and the fact that if that amount of HP dosent do it for you then the bolt on performance world has an unlimited supply of things to make mo and mo power!! I gotta vote add some type of boost either a reasonable size turbo or a centrifugal supercharger (I've always thought only pro-mods needed roots style blowers). I've kinda been looking around for one that's either got a blown motor or transmission or tons of miles so I can get it on the cheap and spend the rest just on go fast parts. Also I think it's too bad they stopped making them and the trans-am. That's 2 American icons gone.

It's censoring like this that cost me a fortune when I bought a 320d and the timing chain went TWICE! £7500 each time.

Having shopped around for e92 M3s and Monaro VXRs recently, good M3s can't be had for less than £22-23k with decent mileage and/or spec. As for the VXR (if you can ever find one) a half decent one with decent miles will easily fetch upwards of £10k. Most reach around £12k for the desirable VXR model shown in this video (400hp). For £8k you'll get an early '05 CV8 Monaro with the less powerful unsupercharged LS1 V8 (320hp roughly) and dated looks only a mother could love. I opted for the cheaper but arguably better to drive Nissan 350z, with excellent performance, great looks (albeit dated), solid engineering and prices from as little as £4000 for the 276bhp model, I think it's one of the best second hand sports cars to date. For £8000 you could afford the revised HR model (308hp) with decent mileage. For that much you'll get the GT pack which includes full racing brembo brakes, forged rays alloy wheels, Bose surround sound, heated electric leather seats, air con, sat nav, cruise and loads of other toys. I'm pretty shocked he didn't include it as its a fifth gear favourite.

That's a potential problem. Depends on how you drive and maintain it. My cousin has one with 125k Original miles -- problem free. I've also seen where BMW will do a goodwill repair & replace the entire engine if that happens. They said it's actually a design failure and fault of BMW. There are several guys who have gotten goodwill repairs from BMW for that issue. They're solid cars. I wouldn't worry about it.

was looking at buying an E92 M3 coupe, but then I started reading about its S65 engine having premature engine failure from connecting rod bearing wear and inadequate side clearances, etc. it's apparently a design flaw and some lucky people have been able to get BMW to replace their engines out of warranty, just on goodwill, which usually is done when the company realises there is a problem but doesn't want to issue an uber expensive recall or draw too much attention to a widespread problem. They realise it is cheaper to just replace the engines that fail and keep the affected client quiet than have this blow up in the media and damage their reputation, etc.
