🛠 Top 3 Multitools Under $40 (not even close)

I tried to find 5 multitools under $40 that I would genuinely buy even if I had more money to spend...but there were only 3. These three are head and shoulders above any other options at this price point.

BlackFire is now officially Klein's outdoor gear brand. Klein started experimenting with other products a while back and decided to start BlackFire as a separate Klein brand to not confuse people or water down the Klein name in the electrical industry. HQ is in Texas.

While the description says "tool only" it does come with one each of a bi-metal kzread.infoUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI and HCS blade plus an adaptor plate for non-DeWalt blades. Wish I had known that before I bought the blade kit, but oh well. Since I already have a DeWalt drill, charger and batteries there was no need to buy more of those so this was a great deal. There is one other consideration. DeWalt does't sell the depth guide separately so you need to buy the three parts which make it up -- the N275350 block assy, the N275341 metal rod and the N278801 knob. Amazon does sell all three.

I concur with your statement about the Ozark Trails Multiforce and the customer service. I had mine over a year as a backup because of another reviewer. I pulled it out last week and actually snapped one of the plier jaws off right at the pivot. I took it to my local store without a receipt or packaging and the lady behind the counter told me she would bend the rules and do a direct swap if i could find the exact tool. They had 1 in the store. I grabbed it and walked out of the store with a brand new tool!

The best part of the Multiforce, for me, is the bit driver. The bit that comes with it is small, however it doesn't take much effort to find bits that fit the tool. Going through my grandfather's old tool box, I even found a robust 3 inch long nail puller attachment, a marlin spike, large screwdrivers and a quarter inch socket adapter. This find, pushed the Multiforce well past the Wave in functionality for me. And I've found that bits from some Klein and Dewalt tools fit as well.

Great options, not everyone wants to or can spend more than 100 bucks to get basically the same functions. I would still consider paying a premium just because of the 25 year warranty of leatherman or the lifetime guaranty of victorinox. But then again, those mean jack shit if you lose those tools. Glad there are good options for a tighter budget, helps everyone:)

I really fell in love with that Blackfire HDMT1 Heavy-Duty Multi-Tool --- only to discover that it's discontinued and Amazon doesn't offer it while both Walmart and Home Depot show it online as "unavailable" and Klein says it's discontinued. Such a tease. Do a video on multitools that have really good pliers! Beefy. Skip all the bottle opener crap. A small knife, A great pair of pliers/wire cutters, and a strong inline bit holder. Put the effort into those and you can scrap the rest.

I have a Bolster Leatherman, new for Christmas and I broke the flathead screwdriver today, as I was using it to take down some decorations. When I tried to pull a staple from the wall with the screwdriver, the metal stopper at the back of the screwdriver just flexed and bent allowing the bit to flip over backward over 15° from its axis, coming around the top of the handle. Very unusual as the tool is very strong for many uses. The Bolster has a warranty from Leatherman, including Costco's 100% satisfaction guarantee, so I will have no problem returning it and getting a replacement. Still, one of the best tools I have because this one is my second one. The first one I got as a gift last year and my brother wanted it so bad, that I gifted mine to him last year and got a new one this year for me.

For me it's the black knight from Nextool. Aside of a poor file which is more a nail file than anything else I do prefer it. I love it because of the amazing scissors, the bit driver which is magnetic and standard. The saw which is descent and the knife which isn't bad. However I'm not very happy with the sheath which is a bit fragile and the file even if I do like its pointy bit.

The irony is that the 'selling point' of the Multiforce is why I didn't want it. And you even mentioned it "I've talked to a NUMBER OF PEOPLE who YEARS down the line have been able to get replacements" That's the irony - and precisely why I didn't want this. Lots of posts, lots of KZread comments of people saying, "This part broke. They helped me out." But it's in a tiny gap of time. This thing hasn't been out that long, and already a lot of people have broken parts. When you read between the lines it makes me think it's worse in every way to the real deal. That's not to say I won't buy it. I likely will. But more for a backup or out of curiosity. :D

Nice review. I wish people would come to realize that the Leatherman bit set is a better then everyone gives it credit for. Here is the genius of the Leatherman bit set. It is a multi-tool it's value is in the versatility. Being able to carry 40 LM bits instead of 40 1/4 inch bits and a dedicated driver plus a multi-tool allows a person to carry them with our bringing the tool box

  • @maxlvledc

The Leatherman bits are also much worse than the majority of bits tradesmen depend on. The hardness of the Leatherman bits are spec'd specifically to fail before they strip the head of a screw..the problem with this...is that they are hard to replace..which doesn't make them ideal for individuals who use their tools every single day. No question that they are convenient..but they also DO NOT contain many of the common fastener types used by many trades.

While it has some serious shortcomings, such as the diamond file and the sheath, it's a perfectly acceptable alternative to the Wave. for about a third the price. The Wave+ is now about $100-$120. The Multiforce would be a great option for somebody just starting out with multitools or somebody who just wants a beater. The scissors are as good as anybody's, with the exception of those the Surge and most of the Victorinox knives.

Love the modularity\hackability of the Multiforce. That said, Walmart should commission a premium version for $10-20 extra and upgrade the warranty and file. They'd have a bigger hit.

I was recently looking for a cheap (but usable) multitool to keep in my car in case I ever need one, at first I picked up a Gerber suspension nxt for $24 and was extremely disappointed, it had many problems on top of it being uncomfortable to hold, so I decided to instead go with a bibury for 26. If the Leatherman bolster still existed I would have paid the extra $14 to pick one up, but don't think the multiforce is worth an extra $14 for a toss in the car tool.

9:02 actually not everybody talk about that. But I saw a video where there was a comparison with an actual testing and hard using of HouHou (Xiaomi), Leatherman Wave +, and Daicamping DL12. What surprising is that the author got a bloody bruise in his hands after he clipped some nails with Leatherman Wave +, exactly like you pointed it out. So did the HouHou - again, bloody bruise. What's interesting though is that the DL12 didn't do that bruise neverthelees the design is similar.

I know people generally think the Leatherman Rev is not worth the price. However, I found a clip strip of 5 of them that must have gotten lost in Home Depot when they were being decommissioned. At $7 a piece I took all of them. The Rev pocket clips losen easily, otherwise, they are a great alternative to carrying a Victorinox, due to their relatively small size.

I’ll just leave it here: I still have a Leatherman Tool from 1995 I carry daily. A multitool is one area you should buy name brand.. Leatherman or Victorinox that’s about it. These things get loose and are dangerous. I have had to help friends who only had one of these cheap ass ones that don’t work well. The Ozark Trail would be a good one to have in the kitchen on a camper, but I couldn’t EDC it.. thing is massive. Leatherman!! Any Leatherman

Love your selection of budget MT's, specifically the Multiforce, phenomenal tool for the money. Also see a NexTool Black Knight but no Flagship Pro, you don't dig it? Got mine for under $40 and I think it's also an awesome bang for the buck, large blade, fantastic saw, needle nose pliers that has precise fine tip that you could actually pull a hair with it, replaceable cutters as well, and its gigantic scissors, are so good. The only thing is that it has a spring action pliers which is kinda bummer IMO 'coz the pivot tends to loosen and develop a play overtime. Anyways, nice video as always.

I have the flagship pro but couldnt find it..I would still not have included it over something like the Fantasticar multitool. But neither I would choose over simply saving for a more expensive tool. The scissors on nearly all Nextools are amazing..but thats about where is stops with my liking of them.

The knife blade works fine for what I do with it. Doesn't hold an edge that long but it's very easy to put a good edge back on it, saw works good as well. But yeah, the scissors on these Chinese multi-tools are great, pretty surprising.

  • @ytJnC
    @ytJnC2 жыл бұрын

So on the 7 Multiforces, have you tried to mod one where you remove the saw layer? You’d also need to bend the frame lock for the saw to be flush or cut it out. You’ll need shorter pins too. But this would make for a considerably thinner pocket knife version mod that you’ve described before.
