A big thing to point out is the importance of doing these drills in a full length cage. Seeing the ball flight direction and spin will be instant feedback on how good the bat path is.

My Son is a big LSU fan and I took him to the South Carolina vs LSU series last year in Columbia, SC. He met Tommy Tanks, Dylan Crews, Trey Morgan and Paul Skenes. He plays 3rd base and is a big Tommy Tanks fan. After he found your previous video about Tommy's hitting routine, he adopted the same routine. He had a breakout year. He is in the 7th grade and plays for his school's Freshman team. He hit .545 with 1 strikeout. Last week he played in the first tournament with his 12U Summer team, and he hit 2 Home Runs. He has always been a solid hitter, but he really took off after the Tommy Tanks videos.

Very impressed. Been watching and digesting as much as possible as coaching 12U including summer All Stars. My son is a talented hitter but can hit with so much more power. I was a pretty good pitcher back in the day. Threw 88mph at 16. Agree 110%. Cranking it up and seriously, seriously challenging batters can have immense benefits during the game. I throw my son about 65-70 mph including sliders and pretty decent breaking balls. I can certainly strike out my son if I am throwing to do it. But when I just throw 70 mpg fastballs? Kids is on top of them. Kid has no fear of them. And kid is an amazing hitter in game times. Struck out twice during regular season and that was early. Proof in the pudding. Problem is, soon I wont be able to throw hard enough. Gonna have to teach my old bones to get better with the off speed stuff! Subscribed and gonna watch many more.

I’m curious about the high speed drill ? Seems like you could be very susceptible to off speed stuff. Seems like you need to add in some off speed stuff so you’re not so out in front in a game. I do understand the concept. Love the videos! Keep it up!

All good hitters are susceptible to off speed stuff. Bad hitters are susceptible to the fastball. The fastball is thrown more than 60% of all pitches thrown. All hitters are guaranteed fastballs. Choose which you want to be.

You do have to understand, the barrel will always work rearward first with a good swing mechanic. He’s just focusing on a tight turn vs casting where the barrel has huge separation from the shoulder. Remember guys, this is a quick video and lots of hitting stuff is semantics. Try to see the spirit of the drill vs focusing on the precise way he describes it. These drills make good sense. We call the power V “half or 3/4 swings” to show direction and extension. Always do High T, but will incorporate the tight 1 ball in - high T and max velocity machine as well. It’s just like adding a couple new excercises to your workout to train a new muscle group.

@@mattwalker138 - You summed it up right here "the barrel will always work rearward first." He made it sound like that was a bad thing, regardless of semantics or the length of the video. Calling a reward launch a barrel dump is just wrong...sorry.

FWIW: teaching a mechanism that "stops" at contact is a really bad idea. Maybe good for hitters that already know what they're doing (and understand follow-through) but really bad for a hitter that literally does this in a game (they hear/feel the contact, and then let the ball "bounce" off the bat rather than pushing it with power).

Ugh! The V comes at contact with hands in fairly tight to the body, elbows at 30-45 degree angles, you're showing hitters with extended arms after contact, thats the follow through. Anytime anyone mentions extension to a young hitter they think they hit with their arms extended; thats death to a hitter. Also, why anyone would teach a drill that stops the bat is beyond me. You want acceleration through the duration of the swing. That "drill" imparts deceleration. That's one of the culprits (among others) that give so many softball girls a funky two part swing with deceleration at contact. High tee? Sure, gotta be able to hit all quadrants of the zone. Hi velo? Absolutely, as long as it doesn't cause a change in mechanics to just but the bat on the ball rather than swing the bat.

I actually love the power V or finishing as hard as you can as soon as you make contact to feel our decelerator muscles working. While this certainly isn’t the first drill I teach and is something I get to after we understand the swing better, it’s a great drill for immediate feedback in my opinion.
