Lyoto fighting techniques were pure shotokan karate. He himself said in interviews that he isolated techniques from kata and practiced them. All he did was practice full contact combat

Why does everyone else always look so cool practicing karate in places like a beach...? I used to do this kind of thing (with visions of greatness in my head) at places like the beach when i was 12 and would turn beet red when cute girls would walk by laughing at me. By 13, it had happened so much that I would never do Karate in front of anyone again... even when I got in fights.
All three had different styles of karate which proves u dont have to have a specific stance to be called a real Karateka
One incredible martial artist one sublime human being a gifted man indeed

First off, Andy Hug switched from Kyokushin Karate to Seidokaikan Karate during his kickboxing career because the latter of which offered him a professional living. Seidokaikan Karate is basically an improved variant of Kyokushin Karate which adds a gloved sparring so that Karate practitioners can practice full contact punches to the head. They even bring back throws and clinch fighting with the gi for the bareknuckle format. They are pretty involved in kickboxing tournaments like RISE and Krush.

@@galaxyrider1704 rules of tournament Kyokushin are; no punching or elbows to the face. No direct attacks to the knees. No grabbing or holding, some organisations allow pushing. No kicking the groin. No elbow strikes to the head. You can kick your opponent in the head any which way you are successful. The same of knees to the head. Body punches and kicks are allowed. Kicks to the thighs and calves are permitted (kinda our thing)…. you can even punch the legs if you want. No takedowns or headbutting your opponent.

Are there any styles of Karate that allow punching/ hand strikes to the face ? I seem to remember reading that Andy had to get used to punches to the face when he went into K1 as it's not allowed in Kyokushin.
Francisco Filho, underated. He Knocked great names of karatê as Andy Hug
Amazing ,superb video , Thanks and guys keep it up.
And one thing I wanted to tell u and others that I'm not saying this because um a karate player I'm martial artist and I say that in whole world karate is the best art one of the best martial art and danger . Ed Parker would have enjoyed this video but his Kenpo would have had an allergic reaction to S Thompson's kicking which is late 20th century TKD. As you indicated above Kenpo has been "influenced" by other arts over the years.

Thompson's not even a keNpo stylist, he's a (Tetsushin-ryu) keMpo stylist. His style of kempo is an off-shoot of Shorinji kempo. So, he has no lineage going back to Parker.

GSP
American kenpo/ kenpo karate Is part of karate family? Even if It come from Okinawa-te, like karate, maybe It diverged from It. And what about kenpo- jutsu, lohana kenpo, Chinese kenpo style etc.? Actualy only shorinji kenpo and nippon kenpo come from karate...

The defensive wrestling that he learned is the reason why he was able to stay on his feet and show his karate. Defensive wrestling should be taught in every karate dojo.

They're not even the same type of kempo. Thompson's kempo has Okinawan/Japanese roots. Liddel's is an off shoot of kejukenpo.
Fam. He was 57-0 as a pro kickboxer
I'm sorry, however this is absolutely false. The best kyokushin karate for ever is Valeri Dimitrov
The issue with Karate, you have to be top level, practise for 10-15 years to beat an okay boxer who kinda trained for 5 months. Unless you're right at the top it's useless shit, infact it's gonna get you hurt. I respect all 3 of these guys but no of them are p4p fighters, one got a belt then ground and pounded to death.
Reak karate is a might!
Lyoto is the best of the best
His roundhouse kick can be seen coming a mile away , reaction time of his opponents is pathetic to say the least
