It’s important to know that sometimes it’s worse just keeping it small if you are very constricted with weight

The larger batteries also come w usb charging ( no cradle required). So, make sure to get that feature!

UV9R is better. It's waterproof and the PTT/microphone attachment is more rugged than what is essentially just two headphone jacks on the UV5R. Get an "exoskeleton" it protects the PTT button on the side of the radio from being accidentally depressed when inside a pouch. Your comms channel is no good if someone's radio is continuously transmitting because the button is being depressed.

This video is about the UV-5R not whats worse or better. For its price its hands down one of the best ham radios you can get.

With the antenna bent over, you need to really look at some Smith charts regarding how the pattern and the efficiency changes.

Other than having a "military type prrifile" How much range does it give it compared to the 12 inch antenna?

on the antennae I'm sure the block o ring goes between the radio and antenna not the base of the antennae and the screw on flexible part. There is now a gap on your radio which could lead to corrosion

Let me just add something about being tacticool. You dont wanna carry one gram of shit you dont have to/need to. Take it from one whos been in active service for 8 years..

Does that 3800Mah block fit the 5rh?

Modern military coms that most pouches are based around are very bulky so with said attachments it makes the radio profile larger
