I am a native Coloradan who has lived here all 66 years of my life. All of my secret places are no longer a secret. A have gone to many of these places before they were commercialized, it was awesome. I never thought I would have ever seen the the day when I would have to make a reservation to go into some of the mountains. So, please when you come here treat the land and the native Coloradoan with respect!

I have been visiting Colorado for most my life. And to me it's so sad to see the changes of how commercialized it has become. I know life will keep changing. But, to see how much the land is so full of retail is so sad. Still, I always camp, and leave my tracks cleaner than when we arrive. I love nature, and want to always preserve for other generations. No matter what state.

Thanks Kevin for such an AMAZING review of many of Colorado's beautiful places! Just south of the Great Sand Dunes is Zapuda Falls, a short but beautiful hike of 1.3 miles that is close enough to enjoy. I've been to many of these locations as I have lived in the Denver area since 1972, but you brought to my attention a few I've never heard of. This summer I plan and visiting a few of the easier ones since I certainly can't do 5-7 mile hikes and 2000+ elevation changes! Heck, before I turned 60 it was a struggle to do Hanging Lake (1-1/4 mile hike, 1,100' elevation change). I've bookmarked your video and will be referring back to it.

That’s crazy that we’ve lived near the “DeCaLiBron” for 5 yrs and hiked it 3 times and never heard that moniker. Pretty cool. Several of us also agreed that doing them clockwise is best. It IS a little treacherous going down Bross, especially if there’s any snow/ice, but going up it was much more physically demanding. Hiking up all the loose scree seemed worse than “sliding” down it:)

Just want to add one thing. If Visiting Black Canyon Try to do it in mid June to early July, that is when the wild flowers are blooming around there and it is just awesome! Gunnison is the wildflower capital of Colorado so when they are in bloom it is just amazing. Also when visiting Black Canyon. There are to ways to approach it, from the South, which is the main entrance and what most people do. You need to use the South entrance if you want to hike to the bottom of the canyon, Which is quit the hike, very steep grade 2,200 feet down then back up. There is also the north side which has some different views of the canyon.

Appears you enjoy hiking and mountains thus eastern Colorado will be a challenge for you, there are plenty of sites, not National Parks, some hiking can be involved, plenty of "imagine this scene" and from mid May to mid September take plenty of water as will be HOT. Beecher Island near Wray, Bent's Fort, dinasour tracks and Pinion Canyon south of La Junta, Camp Amache near Granada, Chorizo Canyon remote area south west of Pritchett, and Sand Creek Massacre Historic Site east of Eads plus on a lone road near the Kansas border is the Towner Bus Tragedy marker between Towner and Holly. Many of these I'm southern Colorado can be combined into a weekend trip. Explore the State's history on another level!! Then northeastern Colorado, Southwest and Northwest sites!!! The canyon country south of La Junta will amaze many who believe the Plains are flat.

Kevin, Isn't Decalibron part of the legislative case where the owner made the hiking route private? Is there some other access where you can avoid private land?

No Telluride? I did visit Telluride in 1977 so I suppose it's a lot different now but one of the few places in Colorado I have been to and thought it pretty cool back then anyway. Also is Mesa Verde with the cliff dwellings and the Spanish Peaks area is close to Texas for a quick trip and an easy hike to Tinchera Peak for an accessible 13000 ft peak and great view of Spanish Peaks.

  • @KevinEassa

Some things are closed like Mt Blue Sky/ Mt Evan’s. But a lot of things remain open because when it snows in Colorado it’s typically followed by sunny blue bird days so things melt fast. Plus if you have a car that drives good in bad weather you can get to most places, but definitely check certain trailheads prior to going

  • @KevinEassa

We’ve never used them, maybe if you plan on driving during a snowstorm. But the sun is so strong here that the road melts fast plus the snow plow. Just a good idea to track the weather and if you’re renting a car, AWD or 4WD isn’t a bad idea
