Warbirds should be in the Top 10 of EVERY Atari Lynx game list...so COOL/FUN, PERFECT controls, GREAT visuals + could go head-to-head by connecting 2 Lynx.

Why is Electro cop never in a best of list? and no warbirds? These games alone showed exactly what the lynx could do if some care was taken when programmed for. If Atari could have just got their act together for one second! Just imagine what top third-party developers could have done with this system. It's actually quite amazing how many effects the lynx could do in games besides scaling. Quite a few performance demos have been released finally displaying the graphical and sound capabilities of the lynx. This machine in "89" could easily pull off many of the same effects as a Super Nintendo and in many ways surpasses the system but for reasons that escaped me the lynx was extremely underutilised. sadly with all the lynx built-in power and abilities quite a few games released could just as easily been on a Gameboy.

Word. I came to see where Viking Child would rank and also didn't make the list. Debatably best game imo but definitely top ten. Batman Returns I thought was fun to play as well.

Warbirds was easily one of my favorites. It was also the first game I played against a friend with the link cable.

as a contemporary to the gameboy, having full color on a handheld seems like a huge upper hand, but damn that size though

My mom got me a Lynx II Christmas of 90' or 91' at Toys R US on 34th St Harold Square. Also got Gates of Zendocan and Ninja Gaiden. What a happy Christmas that was.😊

The Lynx was good enough to be its own home console. Some games are near arcade quality.

Very impressive for a 1989 handheld console. The sound effects are pretty bad though. You can feel the spirit of the 2600 in some of those sound effects. Horrible 😖

The Elvira Pinball game was my favourite

I never got one of these as I mostly avoided handheld games. I was a Sega Genesis/Sega CD and Snes guy mostly. I did get a Jaguar in 1994 however. One thing I noticed about many of these games was the sound. Most games shown here lack any music and Slime World the sound effects were brutal. Addendum- A friend of mine had a Lynx and there was a game he had that I have always wanted to play again but I don't know what it's called. I think it was an RPG and it had a ton of selectable characters. I remember being able to turn the screen and playing it lenght wise...I don't know. Do you know the game I'm looking for?

No frickin’ way does Chip’s Challenge and Blue Lightning and Ninja Gaiden rank higher than Klax,Todd’s Adventures In Slime World and Gates Of Zendocon and I think that Rygar and Shadow Of The Beast should have been ranked higher as well

Sega used the lame ass excuse that they did not want to use scaling and rotation chips in sega genesis because they would have had to make genesis larger and that would have increased the price yet atari made lynx and it had all the sega arcade scaling of sprites and all at a far smaller size!!!

It's true that sega screwed up there, but the lynx hardware was designed by Epyx, not Atari, specifically by two persons who had worked on the commodore amiga, atari partnered with them to handle production and marketing

It's a pity they couldn't come up with a better battery solution - had they, more SW would have been encouraged to get developed, which would have, in turn, reflected on the sales (and its longevity / lifespan, community of users, etc..). Technically, the Lynx was better than all its contemporaries, and its capabilities and features (the ambidextrousity, picture rotation, etc..) unsurpassed for the next 5+ years. When properly programmed, the games felt as if they ran more smoothly than their ST versions (e.g. Shadow of the Beast). All that put into a handheld form of an 8-bit machine (with 16-bit graphics chip). Regarding the games, I could find only really a few shitty ones (e.g. California Games - what's it doing here?) and smaller-than-average (for any gaming device) amount of mediocre titles. Not a bad resume for this little beast. BTW check out the AvP (prototype), it really shows what Lynx was capable of. LbnL I guess I'd add Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, Crystal Mines, BlockOut, Batman Returns, Warbirds and Xybots to the list, promoting the last-mentioned to the absolute 1st place.

Yeah, sadly LCD displays weren't that great back then: had blurring (slow pixel change times) and were more power hungry as well. That and the CPUs and supporting chips used at the time weren't nearly as power-efficient as they are these days. Even the Game Gear I had suffered from blurriness too.

WTF!? Where is War Birds? I was 100% it would be 1st place!

Ms Pac-Man was actually pretty bad. It should have been larger & scrolled to fit more on the screen plus ran faster which it was capable of doing. APB should have made the list instead. Pac-Land, Xybots & Toki should replace a few on that list (like California Games).

Atari apparently brings out a crypto currency or it is already on the market. Did anyone notice anything about it?
