I agree. I understand picking Curb, but Curb started with a special episode in 1999, while Malcolm was an instant hit that set the tone for 21st century sitcoms more than Curb which was very much like Seinfeld.

well if you compare the first season from parks and rec, Modern Family, and Community (irrespective of how they evolve), Modern family would definitely win. Though they did stretch the show and other two knew when to stop.

Schitt's Creek didn't really get recognition until they swooped the Emmys last year. Good to see it get the recognition, it's always deserved though.

But to be fair on its "inventiveness" , they paved the way for many firsts: gay wedding and full length episode shoot on a computer screen with amazing plot (Connection Lost, S6). It's just tip of the iceberg and a comedy doesn't always need to be inventive; it just needs to be FUNNY which MF effectively do. Cite a comedy show that can match that. Even Emmy's agree with me. Your move?

@@translatesspanish6178 arrested development is written almost like a puzzle box of jokes, where an offhand comment in one episode loops around and connects to a visual gag in a later episode -- that sorta thing. You're not "dumb" for not getting it, you just gotta actively participate in what's happening and look for connections. Sometimes there'll be a setup for a gag that doesn't pay off until much later, and things pass by in the background and in the seams in-between story beats, so you can miss a lot if you're just consuming content "passively" like you might do with a laughtrack sitcom

Community for me is that perfect sweet spot, where its niche enough to appeal to a specific type of viewer, but broad enough that anyone can get its appeal right away. I prefer Community but sometimes I'll revisit Arrested Development just to see what jokes I'd missed the previous binge

Totally agree with "The Good Place" for 2016 - but a strong second would be "Kim's Convenience"... hilarious, funny and one of the best I have seen!

Great sitcoms that definitely wouldn't have been on this list (judging by relative popularity) but should've been in some capacity: Superstore (2015), Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015), AP Bio (2018), Community (2009), Pen15 (2019). Also some 2021 shows to consider: Girls 5eva and Rutherford Falls (Peacock has really been killing the game with its original shows).

Thank you for the recognition of victorious. I think it’s one of the funniest sitcoms on kid’s channel. Some of my favorite sitcoms ever after 2000: Community, the office, Brooklyn nine nine, the good place and schitt’s creek

Shame there is no Superstore (I researched it three times) And Community! The most original, mind blowing, funny sitcom

I just rewatched the Big Bang theory start to finish 3 times in a row. Best sitcom ever.

Came here to make sure The Office took the 2005 spot, Brooklyn 99 took the 2013 spot, and Schitt's Creek took the 2015 spot. 30 Rock was pretty good (get why it was listed), but I would have personally picked The IT Crowd for 2006.

In 8 Simple Rules, the middle child, played by Amy Davidson, was actually 6 years older IRL than Kaley Couco, who played the oldest child.

i was NOT expecting to see victorious on here, but it's a pleasant surprise! it's super underrated in my opinion (though that may just be my nostalgia filter talking lol), glad to see it get some recognition for once

I'm currently binging New Girl and it is a surprisingly great show.

Brynhildr in the Darkness (2014) may not be a sitcom series but the anime series is famous for having many Genres in one like Horror, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Action, Drama, Comedy, Ecchi, Romance, Harem, Mystery, Magic, Slice of Life, Psychological and Tragedy. Many people believe that having many Genres in one is impossible. However; Brynhildr in the Darkness (2014) is one of the few anime series to make a breakthrough with these Genres and became a cult hit.

Love that The good Place is on here! However, the fact that Parks and Recreation got beat out by modern family is wrong. Parks and Rec is way better and deserved to be in that spot!

i love the office but for 2005, it's always sunny much much better

Community and Superstore deserved honourable mentions

The Other Two is so underrated! Its hilarious 😂 So excited for Season 2 on HBO Max

Sheldon’s final speech makes me cry everytime

2009 was a great year for new tv shows. Modern Family, Parks & Rec, Glee, and The Middle all came out. I would have picked Raising Hope for 2010

Happy Endings!!! New Girl is great and deserved the 2011 spot, but Happy Endings was just as good!

Alot dont understand the science stuff though...i love others like Raymond etc

For 2018, The neighborhood. It's a super underrated sitcom. It's funny AF. It has Max Greenfield from New Girl and Beth Behrs from 2 broke girls. Which also should be on the list.

Curb your enthusiasm also helped prove the innocence of a guy accused of murder!

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer traditional style sitcoms, complete with laugh track/live studio audience
